I really enjoy the Boathouse but it appears the portion sizes are shrinking.
Had a great night on my first date with someone special. Great atmosphere and even better food!
My wife and I had a very good brunch at their Rockettes Landing location last Sunday, No complaints.
Everything was outstanding. Will say that the hostess area on arrival and departure was not as friendly as the rest of the experience
Delicious food in a beautiful location that overlooks the Richmond Skyline and the river.
Great place for a special night out.
Would highly recommend!
They help me plan my proposal and it turn out to be a huge success. I can't thank them enough for all of there help especially the manager there. She was amazing I would definitely recommend them to help with anyone who is doing a special occasion.
Just a wonderful night .. The people. Dinning .. The services .. And the food .. Just wonderful ... From the start to the finish .. Excellent ...
This place is very nice even if a bit pricey. Nonetheless if you want a fine dining experience this is the place to go. Surprisingly this upscale location is in the otherwise modest town that is Hopewell. However, it's worth an hour or so trip once in awhile due to the excellent food and service as well as a nice view over the water. A great place to eat before a show at the Beacon, which is what my wife and I love to do.
Great setting on the river. We go a couple times a year and this visit fell a little short, last year it was great. We had a table in the bar area which impacted the experience and the meal timing was off.
It was a busy Sunday so we expected it to be nice. We had a great time. Service was very nice food like always is great. O
Great view, great vibe, very good service, but the food wasn’t quite as great as I remembered.
I would recommend Boathouse very guardedly. Four of us went for dinner on Saturday at 7 pm. We had a reservation and were celebrating my daughter's 25th birthday. This was our first visit to the Boathouse - and, most likely, will be my last. We were seated in a booth as close to the kitchen as one could be. The noise level of the whole place made having a conversation difficult. I had Vegan Crabcakes, which I loved and this made the entire situation tolerable. Our waiter was good, and checked on us at the right intervals. However, one bothersome thing is when waiters remove plates from the table while some are still eating. It's so annoying to have all the rukus while you try to enjoy your dinner. The waiter brought the requested chocolate cake with candle to my daughter at the right time. Thank you for that. Perhaps another night or even earlier in the day would be a better time to visit The Boathouse.
Good service. Very clean. Truffle fries are awesome. Crab cake is good but not great. It was not jumbo lump as the waiter said it was. Everyone enjoyed dinner.
Mother with 8 month old girl. Crying +yelling, asked, and was moved to the complete other side. Great but every now and again I could hear the child.
Great romantic birthday spot with husband last night. Establishment was not too noisy and the lights of Richmond were shining bright. Food was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend. We will be returning. Thank you for making my birthday a special one.
Only ? Parking was nill. Velvet was slow, no one was there, had to park a block away. Food and service was great.
Our server Hanna was very charming, the noise level was up.
On a business trip in Richmond, VA, I visited this restaurant for the first time here. Kind and excellent hospitality and service, great food. I really enjoyed it and will be back next time I'll be in the neighborhood.
This may be a new tradition for us to have New Years Day dinner at Boathouse for my husbands birthday! It wasn't overly crowded or noisy and the service was wonderful!
Samantha was our server and she took good care of us
It was New Year's Eve. Server was not very attentive.
You ask if we would recommend The Boathouse to a friend and we said yes, a qualifying yes. Don't go to the Boathouse on a holiday or the day before. We went New Year's Eve. Crowded, noisy, and slow service. Slow service had to do with requesting a bottle of Walnut Hill Pinot Noir 2014. The "server" brought a bottle of same wine, 2016, 15 minutes after we ordered it. We asked him to take it back for the 2014. Even though the 2014 was on the menu, it was not available. We accepted the 2106 and it was very good. The fried Chesapeake oysters were very good. The Little Nice Salads were good, but really don't understand not cutting /ripping the lettuce to place on a Little Nice Plate. The Caesar Salad did not have enough parmesan cheese. We asked the "server" for some fresh ground pepper. He handed the pepper mill and left. Usually the server serves the pepper to the patron's liking. Wife and Mother-in-Law shared the crab cake entree. Warm, at best. I had the Rockfish, which was on a bed of risotto and asparagus spears. Does the restaurant world not know how to serve this dish any other way? It would be welcome. BTW, the Rockfish was delicious. We will not dine at the Boathouse any where near a holiday.
We should have hidden the pepper mill under the table. LOL
I have always had excellent experiences at the boathouse however my favorite location now is rocket's Landing the view the ambiance everything
Some of the best crab cakes ever!
The restaurant was very nice and at a beautiful location. The food was delicious but a little pricey. Service was terrific and fast. Will visit again at some point.
We had the best server ever, Mary Grace. The food was good. I had the beet salad with a crab cake as an extra. Just the right amount for me. And spouse had hamburger. I know the restaurant is a seafood one but he loves their burger. Usually we will get dessert but we were just too full.
I had a great time minus the end when a waiter got smart with my mother because of a mistake he made and snatched the check book out her hand it was great overall very good food
Nice place with a great view but they charge top shelf prices and offer “Denny’s” service. I literally had to flag down two employees asking for somebody to take our order!
The manager came over and apologized, which would have been fine if it was a one off mistake.... but the service remained mediocre at best. The young lady serving us was extremely nice but seemed overworked and just couldn’t keep up.
I’ll go back one more time and give them another chance since the food and ambiance were good... but I am a two-strikes kind of customer. We’ll see next time.
Made an 8:15 reservation weeks in advance, took 45 min to get sat. Then when we ordered everyone at the table ordered mashed potatoes and they ran out. So everyone had to get something they didn’t want. Given the price of the entrees and the fact they they up charge for salads and EVERYTHING- this was unacceptable. Since we were sat so late, it had cleared out but they did not turn the music down so it was hard to hear. Spent $150+ on 3 terrible meals.
The food was excellent! This was my second year having Christmas Eve dinner.
Wonderful as always. I took my father and his fiance there for the first time. They were very impressed. Great job!
Great food, wonderful service- overall great experience!
Quick seating, Nice sunset. Food and service were excellent!
Reserved for Christmas Eve. Our family just moved to Richmond and always plans a holiday meal..something special. This place is awesome! We were seated at the window, view was spectacular. Not a bad seat in the place. For a busy holiday time, we were served quickly and graciously even though staff were busy. Waiter took time for us to discuss the history, which was great since our first year in Richmond. Food was excellent. We all ordered different appetizers, main courses, and desserts. Not a single complaint. We will definitely be back for a casual lunch and for extra special dinner occasions.
I can't be the only person who hates Christmas music, so when played moderately loud (or louder) it becomes annoying. That is all that detracted from our dinner. Very cheerful and helpful server helped make it more enjoyable.
Disappointing, it was my birthday celebration. The waiter was very nice but inexperienced. We ordered a bottle of wine and he uncorked the bottle and poured a full glass of wine. No sampling. The food was less than mediocre, grilled shrimp was too salty, rice was dry and stuck together. Instead of a complimentary dessert for my birthday, he brought me a free dessert voucher for next visit.
Our experience was amazing! The service was the best I’ve experienced in quite some time. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a quiet relaxing night out.
I was so thankful to the staff for holding my reservation for 45mins because the rest of my group did not know how to tell time. LOL
For our kids honeymoon
Wife’s birthday. Despite noting that in the open table app, the waiter never mentioned it. Paid for the dessert too. Manager came by later to give me a card nothing free dessert next time which is great and all, but I don’t live in Richmond and was only visiting. So I don’t recommend this restaurant for special occasions.
We love the Boathouse. One of our favorite restaurants in Richmond.
