The Boathouse at City Point

Highly recommend for a beautiful outdoor setting allowing for distancing and contactless ordering. First date night since March and we felt perfectly comfortable being at this location. Waitstaff wore masks and were very attentive to details. The seafood was, as expected, wonderful! Highly recommend this location.
Wait staff and manager made our meal quite enjoyable. Due to coronavirus we had to order food and drinks using our phones, but staff helped so much with any questions or problems we were experiencing (we are not the most tech savvy). Food and drinks came out quickly, and even though staff weren't having to take orders and everything usually expected of them, we did not feel overwhelmed or 'over-waited' on. Experience was fantastic.
Should have gone to a buffet. I ordered on my phone not much detail to what I ordered. I was expecting that I would have to go to the counter to pickup my food was not positive that it would be served
Father’s Day
Went there for Father's Day. Great food, great service, great water view, and great Father's Day experience.
I am appreciative of the measures the boathouse has taken to safely reopen and practice social distancing, however the food was just not up to par for the price.
Great experience
The food and staff were great and very patient however the payment system is awful and becasue it is a new program issue ls take place that management isnt always able to fix right then. I will say management and the staff did a great job being available the issue this did make my wait time extremely long to order and receive food.
The new ordering policy as a bit pricey. You have to cash out each time your order with an additional 20% gratuity.
Great food and great service!
My date and I enjoyed ourselves. We will definitely be back!
Ordering by phone was strange but it all worked out well. As always the boathouse was an exceptional experience.
They were able to provide contactless service, except for delivery of the drinks and food which were served with gloves and mask. Very impressed.
This is our 3rd time dining at the Boathouse in City Point and we have been happy with the experience every time. The first time was last year's Thanksgiving buffet and the last 2 times have been after reopening from the COVID-19 shutdown. The service has always been wonderful and the wait staff exceptionally friendly. The staff was very helpful explaining how to do the no contact ordering and the restaurant has done a good job with social distancing. Everything we have ordered has been excellent. You also can't beat the view from the patio! I would highly recommend.
It was great. Food was good, wait staff was friendly
Amazing experience!!! Food and service was great!!!
Love the new contactless ordering on the phone. Service was great.
Great food, great atmosphere and great employees.
However the new cell phone contactless ordering has to go. You lose so much of the experience when your server only drops off food. I enjoy hearing the specials, updates to the menu, server’s favorites, etc..
Additionally it appears that servers’ table responsibilities has blurred and coupled with the contactless ordering, results with fewer check ins with the table (e.g. how the food is, if sauces are needed, etc.).
We love coming here but do miss the interactions and service we have previously experienced.
Don’t care for the order by phone currently being used!
The "Hands Free" service is absolutely horrible. Save your $ (about 60-75$ per person) till Covid is over (if EVER)? All the fun of going out is taken away with the way they are running things. Have a question about the menu, etc.... GOOD LUCK finding a human.
While I appreciate some of the steps taken in the age of Covid 19 , navigating the menu to order by phone is more than inconvenient. There’s no one to explain specials, take drink orders or make recommendation , just someone to drop off everything as you order from your phone, virtually no interaction with staff and yet they mandate a 20 % gratuity to pay their staff a “professional wage”. Tips are for services received and while I normally give at least 20% in tips , I feel as if I’m subsidizing the owners employee costs because there’s no “ service” in this new -normal policy.
Took a friend of mine for her birthday lunch - was a gorgeous day and sitting on the patio was perfect. Because of COVID the ordering process was done all on your phone - order and paying. Was kind of impersonal and really not much interaction if you needed something - and there was no choice on the amount of tip you could give while being largely ignored. We were out of water and had to catch someone's attention to get more. the restaurant has removed any type condiments on the table - so they should have at least provided salt and pepper packets....and I would have asked - but no one even came by to ask if our meal was ok either....think I will wait until things open up more before returning. as for the meal - I got the shrimp tacos and they were very good...and a side salad - which was ok. My friend got a burger and fries. she said it was good also but wanted some salt and pepper....hence my comment. Over all...it was the beautiful day that made it all work.....not sure I will go back any time soon though.
We had a great lunch Saturday at The BoatHouse. Food was great. Service was great. The touchless order and pay system worked well for us. Beautiful outdoor deck with view of water. Would definitely go back.
First time here and we loved the location and atmosphere! Food was also very good
Reservation not honored, others were seated ahead of us, food was average, cook uses too much salt, drinks were watered down. Wont go back
As usual, the food, view service and ambiance were excellent. So what makes them over the top? The fact that they were totally prepared for touchless service with ordering and paying over the web... wow, what a difference during this miserable pandemic!
this was our visit since the pandemic closing - we ate on the deck overlooking the confluence of the James and Appomattox Rivers on a very peasant evening - ordering is online from your table so making selections and specifying add-ons was easy - service quick and efficient - and the food was as usual outstanding! - they are very much making the best of a challenging situation
Great views from the outside porch. Ordering via the phone was actually nice and convenient. Wish we had been checked on a little more frequently by our “captains.”
Food was. Really good. Had reservation and sat on the deck. Luckily it was around 5pm and overcast so not hot. Waitress was very helpful.
We love the boathouse although it was a different experience due to covid, we are thankful for the measures taken to keep us safe.
The experience at the Boathouse was less than expected. The price and quality of the food is not matched by the service. We were shown to our table, which was obviously dirty, but the dining room captain did not notice. We had to ask for a new sheet of paper to cover the table. (No tablecloths as they used to have). A man brought a new paper and put it on another table until we said, "...uh, that goes here." When he put the paper down, there was a big black boot print on it. We had to order via our phone and pay for each item as we ordered. A 20% gratuity is added automatically, which is fine, but the service did not merit such a charge. Runners bring the food out, a different person each time. We had to order water separately. They brought a beer with no glass, both the first beer and the second. There's no interaction with your waiter, no opportunity to ask for recommendations. There's no way to make sure you've been charged correctly. This used to be our favorite restaurant. Not any more. Very disappointing. We were told this will be the norm from here forward, not just during the Covid-19 recovery period.
Love the setting on the river ! The phone ordering is a bit of a challenge to navigate.
May I have my eggs scrambled? But the special request button does not work? Would like no ice in my water? but the special request button does not work. It may be time to have a little easier system, or let the staff who ask frequently, "Are you doing okay?" start to help a bit.
Understandable service was slow, had to order everything thru our phone including refills on water which took forever. Waited for our second drink, server dropped it just before it got to our table but when it finally came he served others and gave ours last. Came for the Sunday brunch and it was a beautiful day. Extremely pricey, my husband had 2 drinks and I had 1 and our bill total was $130. We just needed to get out and be with others so with that price point we won’t be back for a long time.
I was a little disappointed in the service. Being that the tip is included, I felt that the service fell off because they already had a guaranteed tip. We never got checked on, we had empty drinks. Service should still be outstanding whether you are working for the tip or not.
Nice view of the rivers. Menu was limited but understand why.
Love the ordering system definitely makes Dinning out more convenient
The food was excellent as always. However ordering on our phones and paying at the end of each transaction was cumbersome. Had to order each time we wanted another round of drinks —-and pay again. We left with at least 7 receipts for one meal. Our server obviously thought she was going to wait on us with her hands behind her back. Had to ask her to several times to clear our appetizer plates and our dinner plates as she was asking us if we we doing “ok”. The distancing is understandable but you don’t have to touch anything to take our order. I didn’t mind looking at a menu online but ordering and paying after every submission was cumbersome. I hope phase3 comes soon.
COVID19 virtual menu a challenge. Multiple charges to credit card throughout meal a fraud flag risk. Wait staff training needs more emphasis, a waiter touched my smart phone - big no no for me as my immune system is compromised. Fish and chips just OK. Rock fish good but not enough salsa. Biggest issue was we were overcome by ants and heat. Our one umbrella was inadequate for the large table on a 95 degree evening
I had a wonderful time. Nice view and nice food.
Excellent food, excellent service. A little too pricey. Beautiful view. There were some spiders coming down from the frames and lights, the only thing that I did not like.
