Birthday brunch on 4/8/2018

The Boardwalk Brunch area is like a coffee shop. Casual furniture, very chilly inside. The service for our first 20 minutes was terrible. We spoke to a manager and service improved. The lack of rolls, muffins, or bread was odd. Some offerings were lovely and some were strange. Chips/salsa at a brunch ??

Went with friends to brunch - food is so-so, service was bad in the beginning, so we asked for a different server & he was great - a bit pricey for what they serve - omelet bar chef was working alone, so that made for a slow, long line. Will we go back, maybe.

Did was just so-so. Not the best value. The service was excellent.

This was our first experience for Sunday Brunch at the Boardwalk. We've been to many brunches when it was at Shades. The Boardwalk seems to be more casual with the decorating style (very beachie). It's very open, therefore, the noise level was a bit much. Outside seating is fabulous, but it was a tad chilly. Shea, our server, was absolutely fabulous, as was Zoe, the hostess. Shea was very attentive and was right there anticipating our needs. The food was delicious - everything I tried was terrific! I definitely will go back again, but perhaps wait until it's a tad warmer to sit outside and enjoy the fabulous views.

Boardwalk grill is a restaurant in a hotel and it is on a hall way. The setting is very mediocre-like Holiday Inn style furnitures. I had a dinner with my wife on Valentine’s Day here since my booking on Open Table sent me a notification on that morning indicating that the restaurant booked no longer in business. The Valentine’s day menu was a rip-off $75 plus tax & tip. Given the regular menu were set around $25 avg., even with a glass of rose wine included, it seemed high for its quality.
The food was average(sub par than other hotel restaurants), cocktails were horrible.
I would say, this restaurant is only good for who stay at the hotel. I would not recommend this venue for special occasions.

Heat new restaurant in HB, the roof top bar is incredible!

It was a valentines lunch with my wife. We wanted to try a new venue. We had an enjoyable experience and meal. I only wish Open Table would have had a notice about ongoing construction at the hotel.

We love Shades Sunday Brunch, the food is excellent, especially for adults, the view of the beach from the patio is great. Service is terrific, always filling up those champagne glasses.
John George, the best magician we know is there most of the time, he will always have you wondering what happened.

This brunch was excellent , especially liked the king crab and prime rib . And our waiter was excellent the best service ever . Sorry can’t remeber his name

Highly overpriced at $54.00 per person for the selection of Sunday brunch. Food quality not the best.
Service was good but that was about it. Will not be returning and would not recommend.

Ate here to celebrate a Birthday! Food was great, service was excellent but I was not expecting that service charge. Second time here party of 7 adults. First time part of 2 adults and 2 childhood.

Food is always fabulous. Service was slow but still good. Made reservation on line for a spe ial ocassion...a birthday...walked in with a larve gift wrapped box..and yet there was no attention to birthday...they brought the check and never even mentioned the birthday. Completely overlooked my special ocassion for my sister...very disappointed. Will not go back for a special occasion...

Server was excellent and made the experience excellent. One meal missed the cooking station but they fixed it pronto. Little cold in the winter but nonetheless we enjoyed our Christmas dinner with the kids.

Shades is a fabulous venue for lunch - especially on a beautiful, sunny day when you can sit outside & enjoy the ocean view - food was great as was the service

It was a beautiful place but unfortunately they didn’t design the restaurant with a beach view, just a pool view. Instead their hotel’s convienance store gets the best beautiful view. The food was okay, but not amazing. The steak was awful and over cooked with little to no flavor, but they were very nice about it and replaced it with the chicken, which was great.
We would go again, but I wouldn’t order the steak.

Food was excellent and staff was very accommodating and helpful. Excellent ambience.

Sunday Champagne Brunch is outstanding! The freshly baked waffles are very good. (and I am Belgian ;) )

The staff went above and beyond to make my wife’s birthday a very special day!
Chris started us off with a wonderful lunch. We came back to an outstanding dinner service with Sarah and Justin plus of course the bar and culinary staff. The food was top quality.
The staff presented my wife with a signed birthday card and birthday cake was delivered to our room.

This is the place for great food and service. Our server Rebecca was excellent, very attentive. Beautiful decor and ambiance plus the view of the pool and ocean. Live music on Saturday. We park at pacific city and walk to burn off the sumptuous dessert. Our fav place.

We had the Sunday Brunch as we were in a bit of a hurry. Should have ordered off the menu. The omelet was good but everything else was sort of cafeteria food. Outside tables had the best view.

Great brunch with family to celebrate birthdays. The service was amazing, delivered by Hayley, and the food was good. Downside is that the buffet self-serving ares were narrow/small and cramped, lines were a bit long (but not super daunting). Overall a nice setting and a good experience.

Visited Shades several times recently. Each time has been as good as the next. Consistently great food and service. Our server this time was Hayley -- just the perfect server, knowledgeable and fun! As good as Tony!!!

The food was very tasty and the service was excellent. I had ribs, my wife one of the fish dishes. Everything was very well prepared, delicious and the dessert (death by chocolate) was particularly good. Service was very friendly; even though this is a captive hotel restaurant, it didn't feel like anyone was taken for granted. We didn't stay at the hotel, just chose to try the restaurant out because of the other great reviews. Pricing isn't cheap, but seems more than fair for food, service and ambiance of this quality.

Consistently good food. Really happy with the new menu and looking forward to Boardwalk . Plan to return soon -- so nice to be able to make a reservation.

Very yummy desserts. Son said first cheeseburger bite best he's ever had!

Amazing place to eat and enjoy the coast! Love the staff and their ability to let you enjoy your evening. Everytime we go to Shades we spend 2-3 hours - perfect!

Our waiter, David, was a Great. We went there for my wifes birthday the day after Labor Day. So, the place was not that busy. David made our experience very enjoyable. He was patient with us with our ordering without being rushed. We took him up on his recommendations for the flat iron steak after noting the bottle of Malbec we ordered. The wine, food, and location made it a memorable birthday dinner.

I had a wonderful time at shades the food was excellent our server Dave was super awesome he really took care of me in my day The View was phenomenal very good wine selection and a nice group of Hawaiian dancers was just a bonus when they were dancing poolside I will definitely be telling my friends and I will definitely be coming back

Have been to Shades frequently in this great weather for outside dining. Food is consistently good, and we like what the new Chef has done with the menu. Usually our waiter is Tony and he is the best. With his knowledge of the menu, you can see that he cares about Shades. We look forward to your changes along with your expansion. But for right now, Shades is our go to place for food, service and atmosphere.

I enjoyed the brunch, good food and beautiful patio with live tropical music.
The only complaint was the warm champaign. We had to keep requesting ice.

Great experience, food and location. Portions are small for the price. Other than that it was great!

Great food and ambiance. Made for an amazing Father's Day. Started a little slow with delays in seating and receiving service in the beginning, but ended up being a great overall experience as service improved into the brunch.

As always...my #1 choice for a business lunch or dinner...except during summer vacation..peak tourist time!! Every aspect of Shade is fantastic...including the valudatedvalet parking!!

We went for Mother's Day and had the buffet and also ordered the Eggs Benedict. Incredible as well as nice to sit on patio and feel like we're on vacation with the beautiful view. 💟
