We had an amazing anniversary dinner! Our server Collin was amazing...so attentive and knowledgeable. Collin brought us 2 complimentary glasses of champagne to commemorate our 4 year anniversary...such a thoughtful touch. Overall the food and drinks were great! we had a lovely evening!
Really enjoyed Restaurant Week selections of both food and wine. Our server was spot on with recommendations. Will certainly be coming back.
My parents were in town visiting and everything could not have been better. We sat on the beautiful 3rd floor towards the bar and our server was extraordinary.
My dad is gluten intolerant and it is so hard for us to find a great spot with options for him so he doesn't feel like he is getting the short end of the stick and have to watch us all eat amazing things that he can't have. It was so nice for him to be able to participate in restaurant week without having to make alterations to the dishes and actually feel like he was being catered to. A real treat and he is still talking about it! The decor was also really pretty and inviting. We will be back!
Went to The Boarding House for Restaurant Week. Food, wine and service were excellent! The table next to us was very close, but otherwise the ambience was lovely. Would definitely recommend.
I went here on a date at the start of restaurant week. The restaurant itself is beautiful with it’s wine bottle chandelier. The set menu had many options to choose from with additional wine pairing option which was nice. Everything was really good, but it is on the pricier side. I have had better meals in Chicago for nearly $100 a person, but I am glad I tried The Boarding House.
Service was horrific as were the “cocktails” food was very good.
We went for restaurant week. We started with a drink in the bar, and we would definitely go back for their happy hour. The staff are all so pleasant. The potato leek soup was divine as was the cheesecake with sour cherries. The cheesecake had very good traditional flavor. The sour cherries were a delicious compliment. We also had the wine pairing. Our server Patrick shared the history of each wine and what flavors too expect. His presentation definitely added to the value of the wine pairing. Our main courses were layered with flavor. We shared our main courses of Salmon and chicken. Both of us were happy with our choices. All the aspects of the dishes worked well together. We really enjoyed our evening.
Excellent as always and the staff is superb.
Each time I go to the Boarding House it gets better. The food was over the top and our server was more than over the top...thanks for another great experience.
great service great food we’ll definitely be back
Presentation of food was excellent however tastes were a bit bland.
Wonderful, creative environment and great food. We had a great time. Great Chicago location.
My boyfriend went the TBH for his birthday and the service was incredible. They were attentive, thoughtful, and generous. We decided it will have to be a tradition.
I enjoyed everything about The Boarding House from dinner to drinks to dessert. This is an amazing place for a casual dinner, girls night out, date night, or business dinner with colleagues. You MUST try it.
Wonderful service and the salmon was delicious!
Unfortunately my experience at the Boarding House was underwhelming. I made reservations through Open Table weeks before our anniversary trip to Chicago. There was no mention anywhere of the mandatory pre-fixe menu that was the only option. We found out after we were seated and were told that there was supposed to be an email about it beforehand. I never received any email, neither from the restaurant nor from Open Table. Due to the late hour at which we found this out, we had no choice but to go with it. We were not given any other options even after informing the restaurant about the lack of communication. Then, when we ordered the steaks medium rare they arrived overly well done. We received new ones which were in turn cooked rare. Overall, disappointing.
My fiancée and I came to The Boarding House for their New Year's menu. We had a wonderful time! We enjoyed each aspect of the meal and both thought the portions were perfect for a 4-course meal. I was enamored with the foie gras butter on my steak and even asked for a tub of it to take home. I was kidding but our server asked the chef and we got to purchase a hefty amount to take home. I would certainly go back to partake in their regular menu.
Fantastic venue and wonderful food and service. Great location if you have out of town visitors
We had slow service. We had a server who didn’t care about our experience.... rushed thru ordering, didn’t describe any dishes, made excuses when our food took 45 min to come out, didn’t ask if we wanted a beverage w dessert or salad w dinner, and didn’t put candles on dessert to celebrate a 50th birthday. The tabletop itself was in terrible condition, scratches and missing the wood finish. I’d never go back.
Fantastic food and service. We met up with a group doing a rehearsal dinner there and we had our own meal. Great service with great recommendations. Had the duck and it was fantastic!
First bottle of red was corked but the second one (a different brand) was lovely. Both fish we ordered needed a tad more seasoning. Good ambiance and good for a small group of couples.
Great overall experience! I had the roasted crystal valley chicken which was fantastic (5/5) and my wife had the squash and beat salad as her entree which she liked. Ambiance at this place is fantastic as well: beautiful, quiet, and very unique. It is a great spot for a date or special occasion. Service was good. It wasn’t super busy as it was a Wednesday and wait times for food and drinks wasn’t bad (4/5). This was our 2nd time at this restaurant and we will definitely be back. We mentioned that we were celebrating a birthday when we booked and they gave us a free dessert (cheesecake- VERY GOOD) which was very generous, Thank you!
Great fries the happy hour is a great deal.loved the octopus
We booked through Open Table then received a phone call indicating that there was limited room in the dining room and asking if we minded be seated in the bar area. Food was good - although a bit pricey.
Outstanding service to complement the wonderful food. Biggest piece of trout ever and perfectly prepared.
Food was delicious. Tried the burrata salad which was so good. At our table we had the duck, short ribs, scallops, and Berkshire pork---they were all fantastic. The only downer was the service. We started out well but as evening progressed our waiter seemed to be occupied elsewhere. Table next to us, sat down after us and got their appetizers and main courses before us. Trying to order coffee and desserts also took time-consuming in fact almost done with coffee before desserts came. We hope that this is just a glitch last night as we like eating at the Boarding House.
Great food and staff!
Had a great time, but we were there for our anniversary (which I’d shared on open table) and the server didn’t acknowledge it at all.
Food was creative without being overly crazy. Beet and squash salad fantastic.
Good food. Menu and wine list were not what was on the web site
Been here a few times before and food and service were excellent. This time, food was great but service very slow. Our waiter was not very attentive and took a long time to take our drink and then our food order. There was nearly a 40 min gap between when our appetizers came out and then our entrees.
We are at The Boarding House for Thanksgiving. We had 8 people in our party and could not have had a better experience! The food was outstanding and the atmosphere is elegant with a welcoming feel of a personal home. It's fun to have a cocktail on the first level before heading up to the dining room on the third floor. The menu offered traditional fare as well as steak and other favorites.
Had a most enjoyable Thanksgiving Prefix Dinner. The food and service exceeded our expectations. The ambience was warm, the tsbles were not crowded together snd the noise level was perfect. Will return for regular dining.
We’ve been Thanksgiving patrons for 4 of 5 past years, however this year did not meet expectations. The furnishings are worn. Cocktail menu lacked its former inventiveness. Wine pairing no longer offered as option to Thanksgiving dinner, though wines were paired for us per our request, the wines were not as well suited this year as prior years.
Warm holiday vibe for Thanksgiving dinner! Amazing food and service. We'll definitely be back!
I am from Chicago and miss it terribly. Love to be at a great Restaurant with marvelous tasty food, excellent wines and ambience. The service was excellent! Even though it was the night before Thanksgivinig and very quiet, our server made us feel important.
The wait staff was extremely rude to us and took over 20 minutes to get our check, I would not go back.
Took a friend from out of town here to get dinner and it was great. Monday the have an additional three course menu for $39.
Bad food; boring menu and not executed well
The Boarding House never disappoints. It's a wonderful room to sit in with a giant chandelier of hundreds of empty wine bottles, two story ceiling and large windows. The food is excellent from start to finish and the wine list is most interesting. This is a restaurant we have been to many times and we always enjoy returning.
