The Blue Taj Ratings and Reviews
So consistent and so flavorful. Excellent wine menu. Stylish and contemporary, but not formal. This has to be the best Indian restaurant in Charlotte. Certainly the best I've had. The staff is always cordial and makes you feel welcome. I have never had a bad experience. I feel lucky to have this place in my neck of the woods but I would gladly drive across town.
If you've never tried Blue Taj, you are missing one of the true dining gems in all of Charlotte.
I met a coworker for a lovely meal. The waiter made some excellent recommendations, was patient when asked questions and checked up on us often. The menu was very authentic and introduced us to some new flavors. We both enjoy good indian food and it is certainly at this location.
Found it because it was open on Thanksgiving Day.
(Note : they are below the movie theatre at the shopping center. If you drive toward the parking deck you should be able to find it. )
Northern Indian inspired food. Had mango lassi, the cauliflower appetizer, and a spicy lamb dish with roti on the side (spice level negotiable), mango pudding with pistachio topping for dessert with hot chai tea ( liked the spice mix - more cardamom than clove). Entrees were large portions. Everything was good, well made.
Only odd spot was the country music playing- I’d have been happier with sitar and tabla but I am guessing it’s a nod to their American customers.
The service was superb and the atmosphere was excellent for conversation. The curry was delicious and well- prepared to the requested spicy or mild level. The salad was also delicious but way too tiny. I recommend they start offering brown rice and whole grain Nan and not only the white rice and white bread. This would keep me from returning to this restaurant. I avoid the white rice, white flour foods as do many health- aware Americans.
We went to dinner Saturday night, arriving a few minutes earlier than our reservation. We were seated immediately. Service was fantastic- we relied on our waitress to help us decide on the appetizer and ended up with a delicious dish. Both of our meals were fantastic. Can't wait to go back!
Food was fabulous; ambience too dark and bathrooms were dirty like a dive bar. Server barely spoke English - couldn't describe the soup or salad included with Express Lunch. Waited 30 minutes for "express" lunch. Will be back for take-out only - food was delicious, but service and restaurant space not desirable
If it wasn't for the food being amazing, I wouldn't go back. It's summer time in the south, and it was cooler outside than it was in the restaurant. I've never been before, so I don't know if this is how it always is or if the A/C was malfunctioning. The bathroom was somewhat dirty with tp on the floor, and the first stall didn't latch. That aside, the food is to die for - they had the best naan I've ever had. The portions are rather large. After having appetizers, I could barely touch my main meal. Next time I may just do all appetizers!
It was my first time dining here. The food was fantastic and very affordable. There is a large selection of authentic Indian cuisine; which is nice to find in an area like Ballantyne. I ordered a cucumber salad, garlic naan, and Chana Masala. All were delicious. I'll definitely be coming back.
Having been to Blue Taj many times, we were highly disappointed this last visit. The food was very good (although the spice levels seemed to be toned down. But first impression is important and the cocktails we received were terrible. We were a table of 4 and first 3 martinis were sent back and the Jack Daniels looked like it was poured with a eye dropper (a very bad pour).
When the martinis returned, they tasted like water. Giving them the benefit of doubt we figured the gin and vodka was kept in the shaker too long and the ice melted. We didn't send them back. Obviously Blue Taj needs a new bartender. When the appetizers were brought, one was delivered @ 5 minutes before the others. So it is either eaten while others wait or wait and it gets cold. I was told by the server that my appetizer takes more time, but this is the job of the kitchen to manage the flow so dishes are served together.
