The Blue Heron @ Sunrise Springs Resort
Our Executive Chef, Rocky Durham embraces the idea that food is a potent elixir for the body and mind. We work closely with local farmers to source seasonally available herbs, fruits, and vegetables to create a selection of vibrant and flavorful dishes.
Our in-house guests enjoy breakfast in the Sages Café, a delightful dining space that imbues the warm earth tones of the natural landscape. The serene setting also includes a koi pond that flows from inside the Sages to the outdoor fountain and patio.
Lunch, dinner and Sunday Brunch are now open to the public in the newly-restored Blue Heron Restaurant, a historic building overlooking the spring-fed pond.
We just had brunch at the Blue Heron. The setting is lovely with both indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the landscaped grounds (including ponds which are unusual in New Mexico). The cuisine is creative, the preparation excellent, the presentation attractive, the portions just right. The service was friendly and professional.
Peaceful atmosphere with beautiful views. My daughter ordered the potato gnocchi with puttanesca sauce. The gnocchi was a little mushy and the sauce was overpowered by the oregano, but the portion was right and we appreciated the attention given to fresh ingredients. I ordered the pan seared scallops— they were cooked well but they were small scallops; I’m used to the scallops being much larger like we get in Alaska and I’m not sure where these came from. The roasted asparagus was flavorful and crisp and I especially appreciated the wasabi aioli. Best of all, our server was fantastic and she was very kind and caring. I would definitely eat here again.
I have eaten here multiple times and will continue to eat here during every visit. Breakfast is fabulous! Lunch is delicious with a glass of wine outside! Dinner is good - being a vegetarian I am limited, but I opted to try the fish since I eat fish only when I expect it to be grand. The salmon was very good. The staff is delightful and attentive and you are never in a rush. The wine selection is good. The salads are fresh. It is all good here! If you visit, do not skip eating in the restaurant or you'll be missing out!
Held a birthday brunch for myself.
A divine day.
We continue to visit our nearby neighbor, The Blue Heron at Sunrise Springs. Each time, whether just us or with out of town visitors, we are greeted warmly and welcomed to this calm, serene locale. The food is very good, and in time, it might be outstanding (which is such a high bar, in my opinion). The freshness of the ingredients is evident and the combinations are innovative. The portions are a bit meagre, however - often I feel a need to have had an appetizer to fill up a bit before arriving. As a "local," I wish that there were some items that would invite us to come for wine and cheese or hummus or something more imaginative than I am at the moment. Needing a reason to dine for a special reason means that we do not go over as often. I wonder if the intent is to be a destination only rather than the needed nearby experience we so need here on the fringes of the City Different. The Blue Heron is totally worth the little ride from the downtown area, out to another type of Santa Fe experience, here in our rolling hills and arroyos.
The meal and service were really good, and the setting is beautiful. The wine list was also good, although prices were slightly on the high side. The resort itself is a serene and peaceful oasis. However, the last few miles before you arrive at Sunrise Spring wind through an area filled with trailer parks, a downer. Those not staying at the resort might not want to drive it late at night.
The flat iron steak was tender and done to perfection. The veggies and mashed potatoes were a good complement. Guacamole and chips appetizer was excellent. The arugula Caesar salad with Parmesan crisps was delicious, although it could have used a touch more dressing. Sunrise Springs is a beautiful location. We sat on the patio to have our meal. Servers were attentive and friendly. The prices are higher end but as expected for this caliber of restaurant. Would definitely recommend a visit.
The setting is beautiful, but they no longer allow restaurant guests to walk around the grounds; this was disappointing, as we arrived early to take a walk. We were not initially told about specials or the fact that they were out of asparagus (a side on the dinner I ordered) and a dessert that I had chosen. This seems to be an issue of poor communication from the chef to the wait staff, who were doing their best to please customers. The lump crab did not have lumps. The menu differed from that on the website, which we were told needed updating. Sangria would be a nice addition to the menu.
The Blue Heron is a peaceful setting for lunch with friends. The menu is surprisingly extensive. The food options are healthy choices as it is located at a spa resort. Our party had a shrimp salad, a beans and rice dish, a duck plate, and a salmon salad. We split two desserts which were yummy. Very pleasant.
The size of the restaurant is perfect, not too big, not too small. The views out the wall of windows can not be beat, lush green old trees and serene little lake. The waiters were polite and non intrusive but always available and chef Rocky’ s food is delicious with a surprising twist of presentation and taste... The menu is full of good choices. Loved our meals there.
The strong points here are the location/ambiance and the service. Service was literally impeccable which isn't always the case in Santa Fe - some good training and high standards in place here. Walking the grounds before or after is great. Hopefully they'll offer outdoor dining soon? There are plenty of tables outside for it. The food is mostly very good, but having been twice now, I've not really completely loved my choices. The chocolate cake has a coconut cream described as "chantilly" but it was almost frothy, an odd texture? The cake was a bit dry. The mushroom appetizer is generous but the truffle oil taste didn't present. The dinner salad was a very large portion as was the crab and avocado salad though the mayonnaise (or dressing for the crab) was too heavy and the crab not plentiful enough. A linguini with clams appetizer came with about 12 clams, but four were closed so inedible? Anyway, the food seems a bit uneven here but the service and surroundings are awesome.
Beautiful setting outdoors, gourmet food served well. The Sunrise Eggs Benedict was a unique, incredibly delicious brunch dish.
Chef Rocky and his staff exceeded my expectations. He made an effort to come out to my table and made me feel like i was the only person in the room. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the food being presented. The food was amazing in taste, presentation and variety from breakfast to dinner. I can’t tell you how enjoyable the entire experience was. I will definitely be back.
Upscale dining amongst a beautiful, natural setting. Service is first-rate as is the cuisine.
Nice restaurant, the food was really good. Nice view! I love it!
Great food from innovative chef. Beautiful setting. Great place for special lunches.
The property is absolutely stunning, and it’s very quiet and peaceful. The reason I gave the fair review is because I ordered my burger medium well, and it was very well done and burned on the outside. The flavor was great, just not cooked how I wanted it. The French fries were divine! My friend asked for coffee, and it took 15-plus minutes to get it. She really enjoyed her meal. The scones given before the meal were delicious! The waitress was very nice but just not “on the ball,” unfortunately. The overall experience was very good.
Excellent service, charming waiter and host. Quite, peaceful and great view. Food was well prepared and tastefully plated. Great vegan green chili burger was fantastic. Host warned us it my be too cool for outside seating the evening we were there. Over all very satisfied and will return.
It was amazing all the way around! Beautiful setting, impeccable service, amazing food. Best eggs Benedict we’ve ever had. Chef Rocky is a Santa Fe gem, we are lucky to have him!
Excellent food in a lovely setting. Staff was appropriately attentive. I will return.
Enjoyed the crab salad and the Blackened salmon dish. We found the curry bowl to be dry and wished it had been a more traditional curry. The attention and graciousness of the staff was outstanding. We enjoyed talking with our waiter, Chris. The dining room atmosphere is serene and spot on.
Excellent cuisine and outstanding service. Imaginative selections.
Excellent fine restaurant in Santa Fe. The service is outstanding and all ingredients are fresh and organic . Although It is very pricey, and they do not change the menu ( limited ) daily , so lunch and supper is the same menu , few items to choose .
Always a great experience at The Blue Heron. Thanks, Chef Rocky!
The service at Blue Heron is one of the best. Though I missed their regular lunch/dinner menu with crispy brussel sprouts and crab cakes, their brunch menu was innovative, fresh with each dish having unique qualities. Who thought of deviled egg sandwich with fried pork belly? There was nothing ho-hum in anything they served. I can't wait to go back. Of course having the trees in bloom and the beautiful springs right out the window were an added plus. Rocking chairs were set out, as usual, so after lunch we all could continue our Easter visiting by the water. Perfect day!!
It was a very pleasant Sunday Brunch with out of town guests. The dining room is quite elegant BUT,very loud with voices bouncing off the hard adobe walls and ceiling.
Wonderful, thoughtful fresh food! Had dinner there twice and breakfast during our stay at Sunrise Springs. Yummy! A must eat whether you are staying or not!
Sunrise Springs is an amazing place and we went to the Blue Heron Restaurant there to celebrate my birthday. The setting is beautiful and the menu is diverse. They focus on local, organic and sustainable ingredients and the menu reflects local influences. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was very relaxing. We will definitely be going back! A lot....
Great services , fresh ingredients and delicious dishes . Menu attract all tastes and changes constantly . Highly Recommended!
We will be back!!
We spent a few days at Sunrise Springs and ate at the Blue Heron for breakfast and dinner each day. The food was fabulous and the wait staff was amazing. They were efficient, courteous and pleasant! Thank you for an amazing restaurant experience!
We were wonderfully surprised and delighted with everything about the experience… The food was fresh and delicious with many options… The ambience was beautiful looking out at big trees and a pond… The service was great.
We couldn’t have been happier it is now our favorite restaurant in Santa Fe and we cannot wait to share it with our friends
Chef Rocky was very kind to bring each of our dishes out and tell all about the details of the Vegan tasting menu we chose. A great meal for a reasonable price!
Beautiful setting, delicious food, and professional but personal service. Our server Laura E. was exceptional. Will definitely return.
Had a lovely plant-forward dinner & good wine pairings. Yes, the veg green chile posole is hot, wonderfully so!
I almost don't want to write a review as I would prefer to keep this little gem a secret. It is an expected treasure that is hidden away and a little out of the way, but so worth the trip. Simple, elegant, relaxing decor, great service and WOW food. A little pricey, but superb for a special occasion or a little escape. A meal here is like a mini-vacation. Highly recommend!
The service was excellent, the menu choices were great, and the chef is outstanding.
It's always worth the drive, even in the winter. Nice spot, great food and excellent service make it a favorite for Sunday brunch.
Great place for Sunday Brunch. Always a treat going here.
LOVED everything about The Blue Heron, food fresh, healthy, great wine list.
Service attentive, but not overly so. We will be back.
