The Blue Ball Inn
The Blue Ball Inn has a history dating back to 1385. a construction of a thatch over cob and flint provides the atmosphere of a bye gone age and a timelessness which is felt when entering this fine old Inn.
In 2006 Blue Ball has been destroyed by a fire and rebuilt exactly how it was in 2007.
Today a new management team accepted the challenge to raise up again the Blue Ball at its well known higher level.
Refreshed and refurbished, Blue Ball is ready to open its gate to all our lovely guests, communities and travelling people.
Lovely accommodations, warm restaurant with nice atmosphere and lovely food, bars, garden, function room, live music and so much coming up...!
The only way to believe us is to go ahead with your booking! Come to visit us and you will never regret!

Extremely busy evening, waited longer than normal for average expensive food, constant smell of smoke from a Cigar party???? As advised by staff who seemed very stretched for such a busy evening.
The service was slow probably due to the fact the hotel had to much going on and not enough staff. I was surprised when I questioned why we were waiting 45 mins for a pudding that I would just have to wait as only one chef was preparing the puddings.
The food wasn’t great but hey covid is obviously to blame 😬
Lovely place the only trouble dogs allowed not the pubs fault but selfish Owners dog fights with 2 separate tables leave the dogs at home
We were a group of four on holiday in the area and the Blue Ball was chosen for convenience - all round we spent a pleasant evening at an indoors table and enjoyed the good food on offer.
If in the area again would be quite happy to visit the Blue Ball Inn to enjoy a meal and the ambience.
Dinner for 6. 4 adults and 2 children. We wanted to eat outside. All the tables for more than 4 were bench seats and tables. Very rickety and uncomfortable. Need to have better outside facilities for groups larger than 4. We didn’t stay for pudding or coffee due to this.
The food and service was very good however the noise from the cupboard near the entrance to the garden was a bit off putting. Told it related to the beer pumps working!!
Salad was warm - best put on side of plate not under hot chicken!
Bill was for a different table and had problems trying to sort the correct bill then when given ours it had the wrong drinks on - guy explained he was new and didn't usually do the tills, all the young waiters were sweet and friendly though.
Excellent service.Waiting staff very polite and helpful.Food arrived in good time and was delicious.
We have always enjoyed visiting the Blue Ball during the 21st years we have lived in the area. However, we will not be repeating the experience unless we hear things have changed. The food was delicious but there was hardly anything on the plate. The piece of fish my husband had was tiny, not even a child's portion and my salad was tiny, really really small. The sweet was suppose to be an Eton mess, it was just whipped cream and raspberries and again was minute. Unfortunately we had taken some friends so we were embarrassed as well.
Shocking experience 😂 Food took ages and wasn’t great. Overdone, mains salad was more like a starter (guys go to the greyhound inn, that’s a salad!) Kids meals was actually adults rehashed so chicken strips were actually just a chicken breast (with tough not child friendly coating) and pasta which was spicy. Marketed as a family friendly pub, but actually it’s not child appropriate, wait times are too long, no area for kids to play in meantime and clientele is an old crowd so kids expected to behave like Victorians. Was also spoken to very poorly and abruptly by an older member of staff, not ideal so won’t be going back.
Plus side is garden is nice. The maitre d, a blonde lady was brilliant and so were the younger wait staff. Good to drop into for a drink or if you have a spare 3 hours to get your dinner and certainly NOT with your kids 🤦🏼♀️ 👋🏻
Great atmosphere, superb quality and service
Staff were very friendly, it’s a very enjoyable location, it feels very welcoming. A definite plus are the gas heaters.
We are all a bit disappointed that the service was so slow, in our opinion was there not enough staff. That meant that we had to wait a very long time to order and by the time it was our turn, all the nice things were gone 🙂!
We had a very nice evening and will definitely give it another chance!
Good to see the Blue Ball back to a good standard. Hope to see some continuity along these lines!
We got engaged that day and were treated to free Prosecco (and nosecco for the one driving!). We felt so treated. Very kind gesture and looking forward to going back again soon!
Great to be back. New management. New menu. It was just a bit too cold to really relax as New heaters weren't hooked up. Few hiccups with bits of service. To be expected with new staff and everything else. Steak and ale pie was fab!! Can't wait to get inside.
Nice to be back nice staff and reliable food, outside is fine, best to book
For obvious reasons we had to sit outside, and it was very cold. Blankets were provided which was a god send.
The food is no longer pub food. this food is restaurant standard. We were pleasantly suprised. just what Sidmouth needs.
Staff wonderful too.
Im about to re book
We had a meal for 5 outside.
The service was great, welcoming and friendly.
The food was delicious.
We will be back.
Really cold evening with no blankets or heaters and waited for about 1hr until given any food. Pretty poor experience.
