The Blue Ball
Considered to be one of the prettiest pubs in the area, the Blue Ball Inn is the ideal location should you wish to visit us for a glass of wine, a pint of traditional real ale, a tasty bar snack or an enjoyable lunch or evening meal in our delightful restaurant. Inside, you will find a relaxed ambiance full of style and comfort with its cosy interior. During the cooler months the real log-burning fire creates a lovely atmosphere whilst in warmer months you can sit outside in our beer garden which enhances this charming restaurant and pub watering hole.
Our head chef takes real pleasure in cooking culinary delights and delicacies using Devon's finest produce that always reflects the season of the year.

Great food and drink and lovely to sit outside under the awning with twinkly lights above! My only thought would possibly be to consider heaters in the main area.
Very good outdoor space, with outside bar. Many picnic tables, well spaced, and a large undercover decking area that was reassuringly dry during a heavy rainstorm.
Staff were relaxed, friendly, and attentive.
Lunch menu was a cut above normal pub fare. Exceeded expectations.
A very positive experience for our first venture out for a while.

Starters and mains were good. Sticky toffee pudding had clearly been microwaved, tough, dry and very little sticky toffee sauce.
Amazing what has been done to accommodate Covid times ..would recommend to friends and family to pay a visit to Blue Ball and have already mentioned to few people!

Food was ok but quite over priced service was good and food came out quickly
Strange times. Outdoor under canvas or not and well arranged. Busy so kitchen couldn't cope. First our shared starter arrived eventually. Main course arrived 90+minutes after the order with people arriving around us receiving theirs before us.
Burger was tasty but expensive. Wife's "fish" was 2 indeterminate narrow fillets - Coley maybe with a slight hint of ammonia and a mountain of peas.
To be fair they removed the cost of the starter and apologised repeatedly but it was a shame.
Maybe go back at some point.

Unfortunately the service was shocking but the food was good. Wrong food came out 3 times, didn’t receive drinks for over 45 minutes no offer of sauces or even cutlery so we watched our food go cold. And extra meal we didn’t order added to our order.
We wouldn’t have minded if we had an apology but instead we got tutting and huffing.
Dear Anon Firstly I must offer my sincere apologies for your experience on Sunday. Last week was exceptionally challenging for us and not the way we like to run our service. We have had to recruit more staff and unfortunately it would seem more training is required. Once again I apologise and hope you will give us a another chance in the future ? Kind Regards Adam
Arrived for our booking, there was no staff around! There was other people
Who started to arrive. After 15 minutes, a man appeared and told us he would seat us, then he came back snd took us to a table. Bit disappointed we was sat on a grass bank with a booked table, we’d expect tables booked for food would be under the big tent. Then the man took away a menu and told us he would be back, after 25 minutes of waiting, No one had come to the table! We decided to leave. It’s such a shame, we’ve heard nothing but amazing things and was so looking forward to our first outing. I completely understand it’s busy and stressful but there was just no staff around? They should of told
Us look we are very busy and understaffed, so it will take us a while to get to you and food is gonna be this long. I hope that you get staffing sorted and we can try again.
Ordering was very chaotic and meal took a very long time to come out.
Had to try and keep catching eye of staff to take order.
They are maximising outdoor space but not enough staff to deal with orders efficiently.
Food was very nice. Service was poor and very, very slow. 3 tables got up to leave as they had been waiting for over 35 minutes to be served/orders taken
Dear Anon. Saturday was our first busy day of opening and despite our best efforts we dropped the ball and did not give the best experince. We adapting as quick as we can to the new systems and recruiting staff as we speak.
Sadly waiting 10 to 15mins to be seated after booking a table then never came over after sitting us down 25mins passed nothing tried to get attention of staff but nothing only when i walked up to staff to say we would be leaving did he say he would come over very disappointed

The waiter we had was drunk and had gone to 3 other tables and got orders and then didn’t retrieve them. We got there at quarter to six and hadn’t been served until quarter to seven. The food was good and the staff did apologies and give us the food for free and drinks for free. We understood it was busy but the atmosphere was too out of control
Need to employ more staff, they were great but totally over stretched. But music was fantastic.
We had booked a table, were there 2 and half hours and managed to get 2 rounds. It was 30 minutes before we got asked what we wanted then another 30 before we got our drinks. The the 2nd round was just as bad. We asked a few times to order and where our drinks were but it felt like we were being ignored. Almost missed the train as we had to ask 4 times and 4 different people to pay the bill. Yes it was busy but not sure if it was lack or organisation or staff, not convinced that our first order didn't actually get lost as we had to place another one.

The staff were fantastic, working so hard with the new outdoor arrangements, the place was very busy and full but the service remained very good, will certainly return in the near future.
Such a lovely outdoor area. Food was good. Service good. Sat in the sun and had our first post lockdown beer from a barrel. Amazing!

Food was lovely as usual and booking system to book a table worked well. Only negative was the time it took to order food and drinks. Had trouble getting staff attention and had to call across the marquee to get attention - this was every time we needed someone so system not quite working but may just be teething problems. Overall, great food as usual and lovely to be eating out again.
We dined during the first weekend pubs were reopen. Evidently they were really busy and we had to wait quite a while for food. However the Food was excellent & think the staff were just getting used to moving the whole pub outside & a few teething issues. We have since returned for drinks and the service is much quicker. We will definitely be back !
