The Blackwall Barn and Lodge
We really enjoyed ourselves. Waiter did not rush t it s at all.
We had lunch here and the food was excellent. The server checked with the kitchen for us to see if a dish we wanted was available. He was attentive but unobtrusive. We will be back!
The best waitress! So personable! The ambiance just so warm and inviting! Food wonderful! Even ordered dessert! Cheesecake and apple cobbler! Yum!
A Blackwall Barn always seems to try very hard to please. Every time we have eaten here, the management circulates to make sure things are as you want them. I like their menu, but having eaten there 6-8 times since they opened, I would love to see an update to the menu for Spring. Love the crab cakes. Their burger is delicious. They could have crispier fries with it though. Short ribs were very deep in flavor and fall-apart tender. Shrimp and grits, and shrimp and scallop risotto are both tasty versions. Great salads. Blackwall Barn does a good job of being your local restaurant and also a fine function venue in the back. It can get a little noisy when it's full, but I haven't had a bad meal here.
The atmosphere is amazing and the perfect dining experience. That true rustic feel through and through. The food was perfectly cooked and I would be hard pressed to think that the other dishes we didn't have wouldn't have been just as delicious. Services was stretched thin but our server was sat multiple tables at once.
First time going. Food was delicious but next time definitely won’t go until the brunch crowd is gone.
Everything was fantastic. Valet parking, easy reservation made via Open Table app. The menu had everything we were looking for. The remodel was done very tastefully with an elegant, yet rustic vibe. Looking forward to trying Blackwall Hitch, next.
Wonderful experience as always. Delicious food and great service!
First time experience and everything was delicious!
Very nice atmosphere, however a bit loud. The food and service were excellent. We went for our anniversary dinner and had a bit of a wait, even with reservation. The manager was quite nice in giving us free appetizers for the wait. One big downfall was parking is not sufficient, so they need to do something about that.
The meatball appetizer was delicious as was our dinners! The peanut butter chocolate pie was scrumptious! Our server Mike, was attentive and helpful and an excellent server!
Nate was our server and he was amazing, the food was outstanding I would recommend this place to anyone.
This place is great. The ambiance and service are excellent. The food is great as well. No complaints!
1st visit - love the atmosphere & decor - cozy & comfortable- bar area open but pretty too. Many menu choices & options - the majority of our meal was very good - would recommend & will return. Room for improvement: need better, more varied & less expensive wines by the glass choices. The menu lists salads - noting options for proteins to go with - however - when I ordered the burrata salad - the server informed me that particular salad had very little greens but I tried it - when it was served my salmon was on a separate plate - odd. Maybe remove that salad that listing? Also the large tomato slice & greens under the burrata had very obviously been frozen. Always great to have chilled salad plates but that should not have left the kitchen in that condition. Looking forward to another visit to try more menu items.
I can't believe we didn't know about this amazing place until less than 3 weeks ago. It's less than 10 miles away and I am so thankful a few of my Facebook friends posted about the restaurant. I heard rave reviews, but still wasn't 100% confident that my husband (who is very picky) would be impressed. HE WAS VERY impressed and stated that this will be our new "date night" spot. See you again, soon, Blackwall Barn & Lodge. OUTSTANDING!
Food was awesome , had the burger cooked perfectly drinks were great service was great
Was pleasantly surprised with the beautiful ambience, and the food was more than I expected. Definitely will be back soon!
Great farm-to-table restaurant in Gambrills (great location for us; not many similar restaurants nearby). Brussel sprouts appetizer and local craft draft beer selections were particularly excellent. Also very nice decor/ambience.
First time eating here. We had an awesome experience. The food was very good and tasty!! Our server Ryan was GREAT, he took excellent care of us. He took our drink and appetizer order quickly. Brought out the biscuits right away. The appetizer came out in perfect time. Then our entree' was served in good timing as well. We mentioned if was our anniversary, Ryan surprised us with dessert. Overall a GREAT experience! We will visit again!
We enjoyed everything about the experience. Will be back for sure
It’s honestly the best food we’ve had out in a very long time and the service was amazing.
Date with hubby!!
I was very pleased that we were seated within minutes of our reservation. Our table by the fireplace was perfect. The food was great. I would definitely go again.
Girlfriends get together, enjoy our experience, service and the food was good. We had a great time.
Everything was great. From the fast seating. To the great service.
Food didn't have much flavor. Risotto was over cooked, pasta was mushy. The server was really good, though. Appetizers and main course came out within 5 mins of one another, which made it difficult to enjoy. Food was over priced for the quality, or lack thereof.
I made my reservation about a month in advance. Expected to be seated in the main restaurant but instead ended up in the event space turned Valentine’s Day restaurant. While the space is pretty, it’s clear you are in overflow. Not sure why I was seated there when I made the reservation so far in advance.
The drinks were okay. My husband had a Black Russian and enjoyed it. I ordered a Moscow mule which came in a plain glass rather than a copper mug and was missing the alcohol. Not sure what happened but wouldn’t order it again.
The pace of the dinner was fine, took us about two hours. We ordered a la carte rather than the Valentine menu. Salads were fresh and well made. I enjoyed my crab cake sandwich and husband enjoyed his lamb. The service was odd in that it reminded me of some less expensive restaurants where all the food is brought out by runners, very little personal service from the waiter. For the price of the meal, $155 including tip, you would expect something different. Desserts were nothing special.
There was one nice touch. Many of the female guests were given a single red rose by one of the co-managers of the restaurant.
Might go back for another meal but not for Valentine’s Day.
Delicious food and drinks. Server was friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was great. Definitely will be back.
BEST MEAL EVER
Went for Valentine's Day. Probably would have been 5 stars across the board had it been any other day. Service was friendly and our server was knowledgeable, responsive and proactively patient. However, the din occasionally presented communication challenges that appeared to cause him some agitation. The ambiance was nice. Again, 4 stars as my personal preference would have been for something a bit less noisy. But "Barn" is right in the name so as it is basically a single cavernous roon, it was simultaneously quite cozy due to the decor and seating layout. It was set up like most places with a lovely bar on the back wall, booths at the front and 4-top tables in the center. Polished rustic would be my description. Mason jars for soft bevs and elegant, sometimes branded bar ware. Cloth napkins with wrapped wire napkin rings. Spotless. The clientele was mostly boomer with a good amount of gen-X and just enough millennials to keep things fresh.
Food was inspired and delicious. I did dock a star which may have been too much. The chicken on my sandwich was really dry and the batter on my son's fish was a bit soft. Was likely a kitchen timing issue due to the full-house crowd on this particular day. That being said, without hesitation, it was the consensus among my table mates, this was the best meal we have ever had in the fair state of Maryland in our nearly 8 years here. And we have tried most of the "top spots". The menu has everything from vegan to gluten-free to the vegan-killing "Thick-cut Bacon Streak with Maple Bourbon Glaze". The menu is not huge but just enough variety to allow everyone to feel that they are being treated to something prepared specifically with them in mind, while keeping quality paramount. Ingredients were farm-fresh, and claims are made that as much as is possible, locally sourced. It seemed legit. The signature drinks were creative variations of timeless standards and sublime. Prices were fair.
Well, the food was really good... but that's all I have got. We had a reservation to celebrate my job promotion, and were seated right away, but were then left to sit for a solid 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. A man that I think was the kitchen manager(?) came and asked if our waitress had been by - we said no - he went to get us water and bread, apologized that the waitress was busy and he could take our drink order. We ended up placing our drinks, appetizers, and entrees with him. It took awhile to get drinks, but it was busy. It wasn't until we had been there for over 20 minutes that the manager came by and stopped the waitress and introduced her. By the time we finally got out food, it was the first time we spoke to the waitress, and I told her we hadn't gotten the appetizer and could they just take if off the bill. She said she would have a manager take it off. The manager told my husband the fryer (needed to make the appetizer) was broken, sorry. We said no big deal, we will take the check since we were ready to go... we also were seated right by the entrance (not their fault) but I highly recommend you do NOT sit there, especially in the winter. It was cold every time the door opened, it was loud from the bar, but also from the people waiting to be seated. We felt like we were placed in the way, with the table and my husband being bumped as people walked by. Overall, I wasn't impressed. We wont be back.
Wonderful service, food was amazing and love the restaurant layout.
The food is delicious. The staff was wonderful...friendly and attentive. Great customer service.
They were understaffed so we had long waits between the server’s visits.
Amazing. Our server was excellent and gave great insight into the menu. Just get the fried green tomatoes.
The restaurant was beautiful and food was good but our server, Shawn, made the night. He was fantastic! When you go sit in his section for a memorable night.
No free dessert for my wife's birthday. The booths were limited.
First time dining at The Blackwall Barn. My wife and I had a great time!
We really enjoyed it here. The food was so good and even worked with me on special requests. The service was great as well. My only issue was the noise level. I couldn’t always hear the person across from me!! I look forward to returning to try some other dishes!!
Love sitting by the fireplaces
A friend and I met here for lunch and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. The food was excellent and the staff was amazing! Its a great place to eat and enjoy visiting with friends and family!
