The Blackwall Barn and Lodge
Food was excellent, service (Julie) was perfect and the atmosphere was very pleasant.
Awesome environment with great food and service! Definitely will come back again!
The restaurant is nice with a dining room and bar in an open setting. The way the dining room is constructed with no sound dampening it echoes everyone's conversation making it very loud. The menu, wine and beer lists are very good and the server very attentive. We ordered appetizers that featured jumbo lump crab meat. When they were served we were informed that the kitchen ran out of jumbo lump crabmeat and that they would be substituting claw meat instead. There was no adjustment to the cost based on this inexpensive substitution. The scallop and shrimp risotto was very good. The risotto was tender and creamy and the scallops perfectly seared. The mixed beverage was very good and there is a reasonable selection of wines at typical restaurant prices. They also had a reasonable selection of wines by the glass.
This was our first time visiting this new venue in a location that previously hosted two other restaurants. This restaurant offers a good variety of reasonably priced food, and beverages in a noisy venue. This will be added to our rotation for future visits to sample other menu items.
Second visit but last. Food was just fair and disappointing. Wife's premium spinach salad was missing many of the promised fruits and candies nuts. My shrimp & scallop risotto dish was fair, overly salty and the risotto was clumpy and tasteless.
This is an absolutely gorgeous restaurant! The food was good and our service was excellent. The prices are a bit high, but not outrageously so. Everyone at our table enjoyed their entrees, and we each had a different dish. The short ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, the shrimp and scallops were perfectly cooked and the crabcakes were loaded with lump crab meat. The only minor complaint would be that the saffron risotto could have been creamier and a little less clumpy, but it still tasted good.
Friendly staff and servers - greeted immediately. Drinks and appetizers were great. But we were disappointed with the main entrees - had filet mignon dish and scallop risotto dish. Filet mignon had no seasoning on it and was overcooked (sent back and edible 2nd time but not great). Scallops were done perfectly but risotto wasn't anything special. Expected more with the great reviews on yelp so we were all disappointed.
We really enjoyed our visit to the Blackwall barn and Lodge. The food was outstanding. The service was excellent. I will be back soon.
I absolutely enjoyed everything about Blackwall Barn & Lodge and will definitely be back
Wish I recalled the name of the server. He was great!! Lovely restaurant, nice ambience, little noisy but not disruptive. Owner/manager came to our table, greeted us, and made us feel welcome. Mixed reviews on the food but not necessarily not good. My entree (short ribs) in a word: incredible! Daughter's shrimp, scallops, orzo: good but could have been better seasoned. Husband's crab cakes were just okay but good to him without tartar or cocktail sauce. I tasted them, consistency was too mushy for me. But I'm from Baltimore so am very particular about my crab cakes! Overall, we all enjoyed the experience & the food. Service was outstanding. A little pricey but would still recommend to friends.
Finally, a class restaurant in the odenton/gambrills area.
My daughter's and I had a late lunch one of them requires a Gluten free diet and was able choose a lunch to her liking.
Lovely, upscale, well appointed restaurant with friendly, competent staff and very good food. Only concern on last visit was waiting one hour for our dinner. This restaurant hosts both dining customers and large events, an event was underway the night we visited and I think the kitchen and wait staff were stretched thin.
First time visit and happy to find this gem of a restaurant - I will indefinably come back again. The spring ravioli was delightful. The calamari appetizer was well presented and ample to share with the table. My guests raved about the Shrimp and Grits. Service was friendly and well meaning, albeit a little bit new the business.
I love eating at Blackwell Barn and Lodge because of the decor and the atmosphere is very friendly.
Sunday night was a much quieter experience than Friday or Saturday and much more enjoyable. Food was very good, as it was on a previous visit. Crab cakes were very good, almost all crab, and the prime rib was very well prepared. Shrimp and scallops risotto was also notable. I think it's a very good spot, and has a very well managed kitchen and wait staff.
Food and service were great! Love the crab cakes, get them each time I come. First time trying dessert, the strawberry shortcake was delicious!!
Great food and beautiful setting. However, the NOISE level is crazy high. As tables left it improved but this is not the place to go for conversation and catching up.
Beautiful space and the food selection and quality is good. However the noise level made it hard to have dinner conversation.
A beautiful rustic dining room, excellent creative well prepared dishes, the service was good but not as attentive as I would have likes, but they were very busy. We had one person with a food allergy and they took care to ensure that was handled. The only negative was the volume. It was impossible to hear the other guests more than one person away.
Excellent service! Excellent food!
The food was amazing and the staff were absolutely phenomenal
The food was good and the service was decent but the room was so loud we literally had to shout at each other to have a conversation. High ceilings and a giant room full of people who want to have conversations leads to a wall street floor type experience.
We had a great time!! Ryan was an excellent server. The staff was excellent!
Excellent food, excellent service, excellent ambience!
The food was good . It’s very loud in there and there’s no small tables in the barn area where it’s quieter .
Lovely venu but was so noisy we could not have conversation among the 4 of us. One couldn't hear the person across the table, only the one beside you. Server said it was particularly busy that Tues evening. Service was fine if a bit slow due to crowd. Food is good but the corn salsa which came w all meals was pretty spicy.
I plan to try the restaurant again, maybe for lunch or when it's juat two guests. Anyway, wasn't good evening for conversation w friends.
The restaurant was great, the service was outstanding. Danielle was our server/hostess - she was amazing to our family. She had a sweet, professional graciousnes; she was thoughtful and she was ahead of the needs for our table before I could we could ask. Thank you!!!
The food was excellent with a great variety on their menu. I went with the special, which was a munk fish stuffed with crab meat. It was bery flavorful and cooked perfectly.
They also have a great selection if cocktails. The kids meals were even fresh as my 6 year old son pointed out.
Server Julie was awesome. Very personable but not intrusive. Primary entree choice was an 86 🥴 Julie was very professional to offer other suggestions. We made an eight-thirty reservation to hear the music of Nicky Stacy. For summer months a 9:30 music start, well makes no sense. Music in the separate room should start 8pm. My wife’s selection of short ribs was awesome (according to her). My second entree choice of Rockfish was tasty. The portion size of the fish was very small. The ambience of this place is always appreciated.
My husband & i went here for my birthday dinner. The appetizers were amazing , the cocktails were amazing , the service was outstanding , but the entrees were a bit of a let down. However , i would recommend this place over & over again for happy hour. I don’t think we will ordered entrees again , but we will be back for more appetizers & drinks!
This is a farely new restaurant. Stopped in for a quick lunch. The entire staff, especially the bartender, Tom, were great. Oh yes, tbe burger and fries were great also.
We’ve fallen in love with Blackwall. Food and service are excellent and we love the atmosphere.
I want to give kudos to server Danielle. She provided great service throughout the meal. One of my dining companions wanted some bread with her lunch. We learned that the restaurant only serves bread at dinner. (We never understand why some restaurants do this - why not make bread available whenever?) Danielle decided on her own to check with the kitchen and soon appeared with a basket of delicious rolls.
Good facility, unexpected location.
Amazing food and atmosphere
The customer service was pretty good, as well as the ambiance but I honestly didn't enjoy the food overall. The crabdip was delicious but the chicken and waffles wasn't good at all which was odd because i've never purchased that dish anywhere and not enjoyed it--it's a pretty simple dish. The waffle was horrible tasting, the chicken was okay but bland. If I return it would be for the crab dip.
First visit on a Monday night. Good food, prepared well. Very good service. Seated on-time. We plan to return.
Thank you for having us; everyone in my party said nice things about their experience and we all want to come back soon. Hats off to Management and staffers
Service very slow. Wine took over 20 minutes to arrive...well after meal received. Little attention from wait staff. One meal had small portions. Nice atmosphere. Not likely to return.
The building and ambiance is wonderful. The manager came by and introduced himself and checked in on us at the beginning, which was nice. Food was decent, but I had higher expectations. Our main complaint was that my husband ordered the Australian lamb, but BBQ lamb ribs came out. When my husband questioned the order the waiter said that it was the right order- the lamb special. My husband thought he overlooked the description, and it wasn't until later realized that the waiter got the order wrong. The waiter should have known the difference between the two orders, and had never told us the specials in the first place. Overall, I'd probably still recommend the lodge for the ambiance, but the food does not stand out.
