We ate at the Blackboard on our last night in Dublin. Our original reservation was for 6:45 but we needed to change to an earlier time at the last minute. They kindly accommodated our request and made us feel right at home when we arrived. The menu is small, but well executed and with enough variety that we each ( the 4 of us) had a different starter and main. Quiet and relaxing atmosphere and friendly service made it a wonderful last meal in Ireland on our trip.

We had an excellent three course lunch that I would describe as classically French. Very strong on flavour and sauces that were not overpowering. No hesitation in recommending the Bistro for lunch and may just return shortly to sample their jazz evening!

I visited the Blackboard Bistro a week ago with my partner. We both enjoyed 2 courses from the set evening menu. Starters and mains were executed perfectly, and portion sizes were well judged, leaving us full but not overly so. Had there been slightly different choices on the dessert menu we would have definitely made room. The service was warm and attentive from start to finish. Would highly recommend and will definitely be visiting again soon.

warm welcome, interesting menu, good service: the starter of warm salad of potato, leaves, chorizo was tasty and well presented. However unfortunately the main course of venison was accompanied by mashed potato, new potatoes and carrots - very heavy on the starches, and red cabbage as the only lighter relief - not to my taste tho' other diners cleaned their plates. the wine list is also relatively limited especially by the glass tho' drinkable enough. reasonably priced but a bit disappointing

Both the staff and the food at this charming, slightly hidden-away yet central, cellar-style restaurant are outstanding. The maitre d' was attentive and informative about the menu, which itself, presented a very tempting array of imaginative starters. I particularly recommend the fish stew, which delicately combines the flavours of at least three types of fish with cockles and mussels in a delicious tomato-based soup. Our only disappointment was that the list mains was comparatively more limited, and the rib of beef was already no longer available at 8.30pm. Set menu prices are a bit high, but not bad by Dublin standards. Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant for small family parties, get-togethers with friends, and romantic meals.

The cheese was good and the meal was fine, just didn't live up to it's price. Esp when there is so much else around.

A quiet little haven tucked away from the noise above, we dined early evening mid week and had the place to ourselves. The food is very french, very tasty and very reasonably priced.

Managed to book a table at this lovely little bistro for Valentines night which was proving difficult in Dublin on the day of the rugby match, most places we tried were already fully booked. Found a real gem, lovely little place and the food and service were excellent, it was a set menu but sometimes that is better as they do a few dishes really well rather than try to do too many and miss the mark. My rib eye steak was perfect and my husband had the sea trout which he said was also very good. We both had the Panna Cotta which was divine. Only criticism would be that there was no decorations or flowers on the tables which would have been a nice touch given that it was a special day.

The Blackboard Bistro was the wrong place to take a group of 11 people. It was badly overcrowded and our table booked for 8:00pm was not available until 8:20pm. The service was haphazard because they were understaffed and had at least two large parties to look after. On the plus side, the food was good although the menu was rather restricted.
