The Blackbird Ratings and Reviews
The food was absolutely amazing. The spices and sauces used for the dishes were paired exquisitely with the dishes. There were flavors that I'd never tasted before and every bite was treasured. We're absolutely in love with the chef at this place and will definitely be coming back again.
Everything was incredible! Our server, Mike really was on his game and did great making us feel special. We were celebrating my husband’s birthday, and the staff was kind enough to sign a birthday card, which Mike delivered to the table. We also recently found out we are expecting, so Mike suggested a “mocktail” for me to be able to still celebrate. My husband requested a special cocktail he calls the Gold Rush as well. Both drinks were made perfectly. The food was delicious as well! He had the seafood plate and I had the Bolognese, followed by the s’mores dessert. The chef even came out to see how eveything was and to congratulate us on our news of expecting. Love the Blackbird! We will be back!
We came for Valentines Day Dinner, the restaurant we wanted was booked so we weren't expecting too much from one of the only available restaurants.
We were happily surprised from asking for and receiving a more romantic table location, the service was wonderful too! I had the oyster special which was amazing !!! The coconut Cake was seriously one of the best EVER! We will be ordering a full cake for our next celebration.
The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the side of the restaurant we didn't dine in was too crowded, it just didn't feel intimate or romantic if you're looking for that.
We just shared another excellent meal at The Blackbird in downtown Asheville -- This is one of our favorite local restaurants, and one that we often choose for special times like Valentine's Day, Birthdays or Anniversaries for the choice, quality and consistency. We had exemplary service throughout our Valentine's Day evening meal from Michael, who was very knowledgeable, accommodating and personable in presenting our meal. We enjoyed an excellent Hazlitt Finger Lakes Riesling from the wine list, with the Fresh Creamy Mushroom soup and Arugula, Pear, Blue Cheese & Glazed Pecan Salad to start, followed by our entrées of Grilled Seafood Risotto, with the fresh seafood inclusion that night of Mahi-Mahi with Three Scallops, all perfectly cooked and seasoned, including a delectable mixed risotto with tiny peas and squash. We finished our very enjoyable meal with their classic Coconut Custard Cake (large enough to share for 2/3; we had the remainder the next day) and a great White Chocolate Mousse Cheesecake w/ Strawberry sauce garnished with Pistachios (simple in description, but good enough to be a signature dessert) --Thanks once again, Blackbird!
The food was decent but not for the price. If it was half the price it would only be acceptable. The service was TERRIBLE, I ran out of water before we got our food and the waiter didn’t show up until I wanted a check. He was rude and rushed... oh yeah and it was Valentine’s Day, I was ashamed that I brought my girlfriend there. I will never go back ever. I could not be more clear.
Overall this is a nice place, but atmosphere (besides for a few interesting light fixtures), the high price points, and food that isn't quite refined enough drag the score down. We ordered the cheese plate, which was pretty spectacular, but doesn't require any culinary skill. We also got the wellington, and while it was an interesting dish, calling it "wellington" is very missleading. I would say that if anything, it is more or a deconstructed/reimagined shepard's pie. Having said that it was decent, nice flavors, flacky buttery filo dough, good mash potatoes very low on beef and it is chopped and thrown in, instead of a marinated steak in filo dough as a real wellington is. The booze is especially overpriced. I am a bartender in a large american city, and the prices were 40% higher than they should be. Sambra mezcal, that I use as a well mezcal, was $12 a glass. All and all I would say it was good if unspectacular. Solid 3.5 stars, just outside what it would take for me to recomend it to someone.
Food came out cold. It was quickly fixed but still wasn’t that tasteful for the price. Staff was great but the food was simply lacking. Manager took my cold steak off the bill and did a good job at making up for it but I won’t be back at the current prices.
Creative cocktails, extensive wine selection and beers on draft. We had attentive service incl a table-side visit from the chef. Menu is varied and interesting. Would have given five stars to food but the pasta entree was skimpy on the meat and heavy on the vegetables. The vegetarian Wellington dish had a good combination of flavors but heavy on mashed potato, light on figs, pecans and jalapeño cherry sauce. The Southern Coconut Custard Cake is outstanding and a giant slice of wonderful.
Noise level, though, is extremely high. So conversation with more than one or two people at your table will be difficult. Otherwise, a lively, entertaining atmosphere.
My husband and I came here for our Wedding Anniversary dinner. We had a wonderful experience at The Black Bird. It was quite for us because it was Super bowl Sunday. Our waitress Melissa was a total sweetheart and a lot of fun! We highly recommend The Black Bird!
We had a birthday celebration at Blackbird. It was festive for the occasion with an awesome meal, great wine and delicious coconut cake! Meals ranged from pasta to beef to risotto and everyone happily ate until their heart was content (and dish was clean)!
Hostess seated us right away at a table per my reservation request. Server was very attentive and had good timing in not rushing our meal. Food was excellent. I would suggest that the kale salad have a little more variety in ingredients. Grilled chicken and beef bolgnaise were quite good. Nice atmosphere and decor as well as jazz background music added to ambience. Would recommend this restaurant to friends.
The food, staff, and cocktails were all great, and on par with the price. The chef was present and attentive, and everything concerning the meal was on point. My only complaint was that it was really loud the night that we went (it was a Saturday night).
We were in the back left near a rounded wall, so it’s possible that we were in a bad location acoustically, but the din made it kind of hard to focus on conversation.
Would definitely recommend for a bar chat or group, but if you’re going for a date, maybe aim for the early evening before the night crowd gets in.
