The food was delicious and our service was exceptional!
Overall good experience - agree with some of the other reviews that things just move a bit slow. Everything just felt a tick off. We had a party of four - all ordered basic breakfast plates. Waited a good 35 minutes for the food to come out and when it did two plates came out followed by the final two plates 5 minutes later. Eggs also came out cold. Nice job handling COVID measures
Food was great! Great portion size. Service was fine-not overly energetic but informative. Would recommend highly!
The waitress was not very outgoing. It seemed like the Chef was trying to be too creative. The head bartender wouldn’t make a variation of one of her drinks for me. It was supposed to have Aperol but they were out I said it would be fine since I’d prefer it without it. The bartender ended up substituting Campari. It was really off putting not to get what I’d prefer. The coconut cake had too much coconut and not enough frosting.
We had a nice dinner at Blackbird. We’ll be back.
The servers were mostly attentive but both of our lunches were not good at all. I hate giving bad reviews during these trying times, but it was the worst turkey pot pie I have ever tried to eat. The filling looked and tasted like mush with no real flavor or identifiable meat or vegetables. My husband had a pasta with sausage and a very bland red cream sauce and cheese that just didn’t work. It’s such hard to get any kind of dining reservation in Asheville during the fall high season - with limited capacity on top of it - that this restaurant needs to try harder in the kitchen.
My ribeye steak was horrible. All fat, very little digestible meat. Very over priced at $36. I gave this feedback to the staff but they offered no support or compensation.
Hello, As the chef and owner of the Blackbird, I'm sorry you felt the ribeye had too much fat. It is a cut known for its marbleization and flavor. However, based on your preferences, I would recommend the NY strip we offer which is less decadent, but still delicious and perhaps more to your liking. Thank you again for the review and I hope you have a great time in Asheville.
Service was great. Food was fine but a bit pricey but this is the high season and places are just trying to survive Covid. I will say we have been to this place for Brunch and Lunch which was excellent and look forward to returning.
Abysmal service from lunch bartender, mediocre food served with physical contaminant.
This is Ivey and I was the manager that spoke to you. I'm sorry that your server did not make you feel taken care of. I know that there somehow was a piece of plastic on your friend's plate of food. Though we strive for perfection, we sometimes fall short and make mistakes. When this happens, we do our best to make amends. As the manager, I did come by and apologize, as did the chef that prepared your food. We also comped the dish. We appreciate your patronage and hope you'll try us again.
Excellent experience. Interesting menu with unique variations on often seen food items. Prompt and very attentive and friendly service. Would make a plan to visit on every trip to Asheville.
Thank you very much.
Delicious cheese plate, wonderful cocktails. Excellent vegetarian dishes.
Would definitely return on our next visit to Asheville
Thank you very much!
Waited over an hour for our food and the servers ignored us until the food eventually came. They did apologize for the delay however the food was bland. Disappointing experience, I’m hoping this was just a one-off, bad day!
Hello. We're very sorry to hear of the poor service that you received. We'd love to learn more about it, so that we can confront the issue. If you'd be willing to, please email us at information@theblackbirdrestaurant.
The appetizer was great! Entrees were ok. The banana pudding dessert reminded me of runny overnight oats. Our server seemed clueless and distracted. Too expensive for service and food provided:
The food was outstanding! The service was impeccable.
Thank you so much!
Delicious brunch! My husband the mushroom omelette and I had the goat cheese omelette. The Sunday potatoes were yummy. Our service was good and the restaurant was practicing good Covid measures.
The food was okay, but not worth the exorbitant prices for what it was. The steak was undercooked and the chimichurri did not taste good. The vegan chocolate cake tasted slightly like charcoal. Service was fine, but it felt like the place was understaffed. Appreciated the ambiance and waiter, but most likely would not return.
In town with friends staying our at Biltmore. Ubered into town.
Blackbird is just okay, nothing special for expensive drink/wine prices and menu prices.
Cheese board was good, fig jam excellent
Seafood pirlau was more broth than substance with 2 shrimp, 2-3 clams, 2-3 mussels, 2 pieces of fish & 2 rissotto balls in center.
I had salmon and requested medium, it was more than medium and has crusted up some under heat lamp or broiler
Gnochi ragout was also all sauce, few gnochi
Ferro salad went half eaten
Blackberry cobbler needed more crust and more ice cream. Came with golf ball ice cream
Good wine list starting at $11/glass
Too many better options than eating here again
Despite this place having awesome reviews, we found our experience to be less than.
A. Service. Horrible. Our food got cold waiting for our server to check on us as we needed salt. I spent many years in college waiting tables. I can tell you, service was strongly lacking.
B. The $15 bloody mary was NOTHING like what was described on the menu. 2 plain olives and a piece of okra?!? Where were the rest of the treats. $8 bloody mary at best.
C. The good. Socially distanced tables. Semi masked employees. At least they’re trying.
Great food and service. Friendly staff and quick service!
Staff was amazing! Very personable. Would definitely go back, I just don’t think I would get the ribeye again.
Thank you so much!!
Food does not match the quality of Serb; not returning.
What an interesting menu! Very inspired cocktails, great choice of appetizers, well composed salads. Can’t wait to go back!
Terrific Grouper with Black Bean Quinoa!
Our meals were incredible. I had the trout and scallops with vegetable risotto. I loved it. My husband had the grouper with black bean quinoa. He ate every bite. We wanted to try the horseradish mustard Brussels spouts and they did not disappoint. We started with half portions Of the meat and cheese boards. It was the perfect amount to start the meal off, along with a cocktail. He had the mezcal sidecar. He is a huge mezcal fan and was very pleased with the mixture. I had the classic blackbird to start and quickly decided that it might be my favorite cocktail from my trip to Asheville. I ended with the basil martini and it was also fantastic. Overall a top pick.
Thank you so much!
Food was decent and not outstanding. Salad was overdressed and dripping with balsamic vinegar even after asking to go light on dressing. Also the salad came first and the mussel and clam app came after which didn’t make sense. Our server was great. He was the manager. Oh and the wine he suggested was phenomenal. It was our 15 year anniversary which we prenotified on our reservation but nothing special was offered to celebrate it. We made the best of it but I expected more.
Thank you for your feedback.
Love the blackbird but for older people who can not hear well indoor seating did not work out well. No fault to the restaurant. Service was slow but they were busy. Food was wonderful and we will definitely be back, just not with parents who have trouble hearing.
Cool new Southern restaurant with an excellent wine program. Had a lot of fun there!
Fantastic beignets! Stellar Bloody Marys! Best service! And brunch was good, no complaints.
Bathrooms were disgusting. Food was just ok. Service was good!
I was disappointed this visit. Went for lunch on Thursday with two friends. The food and service is usually good. The menu has been changed for lunch and nothing was very appealing. I had the Trout salad - it was ok. It appeared there was no dressing and when we asked we were told it was on the salad - we asked for more - which was brought and it was obvious then there had been no dressing.
The service was ok. One wait person and it was busy. The physical distancing seating was not happening when a party of 4 came in and was seated directly next to another party of 4 - maybe things have changed and I'm not aware.
Hello. Thank you for coming out and leaving us some feedback. We apologize that you were unhappy with your lunch experience. We are still complying with all COVID regulations. All tables are 6 feet or more away form one another. We hope that you'll give us another chance in the future to serve you better.
We were very disappointed in this restaurant. It was very noisy, the service was slow and the food was mediocre at best.
Hello. Thank you for leaving us some feedback. We'd love to know more about your experience so that we can learn from it.
Had not been there in a couple of years - the whole experience was a disappointment, as we had high expectations, judging from our prior visits. The limited menu was understandable, as most restaurants seem to have cut back during this pandemic. None of the four of us thought our food was good. Likewise, we all agreed that the food was slow, the service was not good and the general atmosphere was lacking. We were very disappointed, as our dining there on previous occasions had been excellent- and, we were embarrassed that we recommended it to our friends.
Hello. Thank you for leaving us some feedback. We appreciate your patronage. We're sorry to hear that your experience wasn't as good as in the past. We do hope that you'll give us another chance some time in the future,
Great meal and even better service. We shared the Brie salad and the Chief Pick to start. Then moved to the Steak special and Gnocchi. Finished with Coconut Cake. Excellent on all fronts. We will be back. A new tradition.
Great food great service. The cocktails were amazing!
Good food and service.
Just stopped by and were pleasantly surprised by the food and service. I had the Jambalaya, served in a piping hot casserole dish that kept the fool nice and warm throughout the meal. Tasty, with the right heat, plenty of chicken and andouille sausage, and three plumb shrimp. My companion had the Smoked Turkey sandwich with fries. Plenty of turkey on the sandwich and some the best fries we've had in a while.
Service was excellent as were a couple of glasses of rosé wine. We'd return next time we are in Asheville.
Thank you very much!
The meat board was spectacular! Their salami is homemade and amazing! My wife ordered the Mushroom Risotto and I ordered the Mushroom Ragu with homemade gnocchi. The gnocchi were soft and pillowy in a flavorful sauce with tomatoes, mushrooms and lentils. Our only complaint is with the menu descriptions. My wife does not like peas or corn off the cob. The risotto was chock full of peas and corn, but neither ingredient was mentioned on the menu. In fact, for a mushroom risotto, there didn’t seem to be many mushrooms - it was literally all peas and corn. The staff was understanding and offered to make something else, but it was too late. They didn’t charge us for the risotto or the meat plate, so their customer service is very good, but the menu needs to accurately reflect the ingredients.
Short menu, but what we ordered was very good. If you are a vegetarian you should really like this place.
Thank you so much.
