The food was delicious. We will definitely return again.
Aaron was an excellent and attentive server and assisted with a great wine selection. Scallop appetizer was good but very small. Trout entree was excellent and quit large. Lamb entree portion was very small and over-seasoned, but creamy polenta was very good. Chocolate dessert with banana ice cream was the hit.
This restaurant is a leading contender in the Asheville restaurant community. The presentation of the food was on point and not pretentious. It was fresh, simple food with a twist.
The Bone marrow appetizer barely had two bites on it, and our server, Michael, was proactive and took it off our bill. Our trio meat entrée was wonderful. We really appreciated Michael understanding that we were unhappy with the appetizer. We had taken our friends to this restaurant because we have always had great food and service. We really loved how Michael made our night extra special!
Food was good. Had an initial bad experience with hostess inept ability to give us a proper table on a 30% full restaurant. Just silly.
My first and prob my only visit to this restaurant. Food was good, but some food came out cold and our waiter went MIA on us several times. The restaurant wasn’t crowded, so not sure what his excuse was. Basically, there are too many phenomenal restaurants in Asheville to settle for mediocre service.
Table of sixteen/reservation made six weeks in advance. Verified reservation via open table prior to arrival. Reservation secured with credit card. From the minute we arrived, we were greeted with indifference. Only two other four tops dining in addition to our sixteen. One server. The server continued to act as if we were an imposition, was abrasive at times, and came across as thinking she had already earned her guaranteed 20% gratuity with our party size and barely worked to take our orders and deliver the food and beverages. For instance, forty minutes after we placed our order for our first course, we asked for bread and asked how our first courses we coming. The restaurant did not have bread (at least not that night), the server argued with us that our orders had only been turned in ten minutes before, and could not possibly be ready. The bartender overheard this exchange, which was off to the side and not at the table, and promptly delivered the salads, which were waiting on the server for delivery. That was indicative of the experience with the server and hostess. Once the food arrived, it was delicious. I would not return to the Blackbird. Too many other options in Asheville.
Hello. We appreciate you leaving us some feedback and we're saddened by your experience. The owner/chef and our team are working hard to better ourselves every day, so this is not what we want to hear. We will be talking to the server and host in question. We understand your disappointment, but we do hope you'll give us another try some day.
Food was excellent and the service was great! We had breakfast and will definitely come back again!
Coconut Cake always fabulous!!
Don't go to The Blackbird if you're looking to have a nice cocktail. They offer spirits, but no craft cocktail menu.
Hello. We're sorry that you missed our drink menu and page dedicated to our house specialty craft cocktails. We have several! We also have a full bar and experienced bartenders that can make you just about anything.
In any project, artwork, or business, the level of quality is directly affected by the level of human care/concern that goes toward it. This place is definitely well cared for, you can tell in the attitudes of the management, the quality of the food, and details of the atmosphere. A high quality dining experience that evokes the goal of the staff to shoot for the stars in every aspect. So I'd give them 5. :)
Thank you so much from the management to our beloved staff. Cheers!!
Enjoyed dinner here so much that we went back for breakfast the next day. The food is creative and delicious, and the atmosphere is contemporary and sophisticated but very comfortable. Tables by the window offer a great view of the vibrant, quirky Asheville downtown.
This is our favorite restaurant in Asheville. The food is delicious and the wine selection is extensive and well chosen. The staff are excellent.
Thank you so much for the kind words. We hope to see you again soon!
We were visiting Asheville for the long weekend and took reservations for dinner. We had an awesome experience! The service was great and the food was amazing! We ordered the seafood medley and the lamb, we even got a kids menu and our kids liked their pasta and burger sliders.
Overall, good experience, but acoustics are loud and roasted veggies a bit dry.
The food in this downtown Asheville restaurant is outstanding. My foodie husband said his seafood pirlau was the best he’s ever had; still talking about it the next day! Our trout was creative but still relatively simple, and perfectly cooked. You don’t mess with fresh trout! We loved our server. She was smart, knew her food and wine, and was delightful without being over the top.
All of us definitely will return.
Thank you so much!
Only had salads and cheese plate. It felt a bit overpriced for what we got. Wine list was not extensive but had a good cross-section on varietals.
I reserved a table for dinner after a cycling event earlier in the day. I had a Watermelon Gazpacho for an appetizer that was amazing. Next I had a small-plate Scallops and pork belly over green pea puree that was equally tasty though for the price I expected the scallops and pork belly to be a little more robust in size. Lastly, I bone-marrow over and toast that was perfectly done. Overall the meal and service were great.
Waitress was well informed as to what wines would pair well with entrees. Took pics of us as it was our anniversary. Food was delicious and presentation was perfect.
Had a wonderful waitress.
She was so personable and made the experience better!
Food was perfect! Big servings!
Delicious food and drinks! The peach cobbler dessert was scrumptious.
Food was amazing and very creative.
The food was excellent and the server knowledge of the menu was as well. However, our entree was delivered on top of our appetizer and first drink. Not only did this kill the dining mood, it resulted in overlooked tuna (resting while we finished our app) and one less glass of wine we wanted with dinner. Unfortunately, we will opt for someplace else next tome.
Service was very well. Ambiance was good. Everything seemed like it was going to be a great restaurant. Food was underwhelming and oversold by waiter. Most parts of the food were good (enjoyed the cheese board) but the risotto was bland. Lamb dish was fine but not amazing. Grits and lamb were good. The “sautéed” veggies turned out to be raw kale. I feel like it had potential to be amazing but didn’t quite meet all our expectations.
Great food, service, and wine!
Cute little place. Great GF menu. Creative. Service was weak but food was great!
One of our favorite restaurants in Asheville...never a disappointment, food is always awesome, great wine selection, and good service.
Amazing! One of the Best Restaurants in Asheville. The food was exceptions, the staff spot on and the craft cocktails were exceptional.
Horrible dining experience. There were flies flying around constantly and we had bugs in our drinks and food. The food quality was very sub par. They did give us our meal for free which was appreciated.
Great Food in Asheville!
Had a great experience at Blackbird! Greeted by the bartender Matt and the host, both were nice and welcoming.
The whole night was very enjoyable from the crafted cocktails to the wonderful local cheeses, salad and entrees. Service was very attentive and I enjoyed that fact that even though we moved to a table Matt was still our server and did a fantastic job!
We had an absolutely fabulous dinner at the blackbird for Father’s Day. It’s our favorite restaurant! The atmosphere and the wait staff are spectacular and the food could not be better.
Thank you very much!
We enjoyed our meal here. The menu is not overly expansive but still a nice variety of salads, small plates and large plates. We enjoyed the wine list as well. It had a nice selection of varietals and price points and the value was very good based on what we knew of retail prices. The overall value of the meal was good as well especially relative to what we saw at other locations albeit we only dined at a few spots. The hostess and seating process was not very good but the table service was good enough and very friendly.
Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate you!
We started with cocktails and one of us had a glass of pinot noir. It was definitely off, either old or in the sun etc. We shared a cheese board which was quite nice, and the fig jam was excellent. The chicken dinner, recommended by the waiter was over-cooked and dry. The cold smoked porkchop was the best we have ever tasted, however the plate was otherwise filled up with potatoes, seemed like about 2 pounds of potatoes--way too much for balance. What we would go back for was the dessert--especially the deconstructed mocha torte. Sadly the shortbread, while tasty was severly lacking in sauce.
Hello. Thank you for taking the time to leave us some feedback. We are sadden to hear that your experience was not perfect. We always check for the quality of our wines and wish we had been notified so we could've gotten you another glass. We strive for excellence and we're always tweaking things, so we do hope you'll try us again sometime.
The food was good and the waiter was great! The atmosphere was just so-so. We were seated by the exit door and for a meal of that caliber, I would have preferred a better atmosphere. I didn't ask to move because the entire restaurant seemed to have little personality and ambiance.
Incredible brunch. Everything was perfect.
We were in town to visit UNCAsheville with our daughter and she had never been to the city of Asheville. We gambled and tried The Blackbird and it was amazing. We will be back!!!
Thank you so much!
