My husband and I came in for dinner for the first time. We both had the $75 tasting course and a bottle of wine. The tasting menu was absolutely amazing! I highly recommend. We left absolutely full, so Much food to eat and every bite was incredible.

Great food and service. They recently moved into new space which is nice but a bit loud, especially given the place wasn’t totally booked. We’ll go back!

Very nice brasserie. The atmosphere is casual chic and the service is quietly attentive. Based on the two dishes we ordered, the food is simple, yet cooked elegantly, perfectly, and very delicious. We decided to split an appetizer and a main. To start, we had the beet and chevre "cheesecake." This was goat cheese whipped up with some beets or beet juice and served with more beets and topped with a crumble. The dish was inspired. The tangy goat cheese needed something to balance it and the beets performed admirably. Plus, it was larger than a couple of bites, so it was a perfect dish to share before the entrée. We had the coq au vin for our main. So good! We've had this dish many times in restaurants over the years and have made it ourselves too, but this was the best version we've ever had. The sauce was not too thick, very very rich, and slightly sweet, maybe including some Marsala wine? The chicken literally fell off the bones, to the point we could eat 100% of the meat and not leave anything on the plate. Carrots, turnips, and creamy potatoes completed the dish. Outstanding. This is not fussy food administered in multiple micro-courses. It's hearty, simple, yet delicately flavored. We enjoyed ourselves a lot at the Black Sheep and we'll be back again next time we're in town. Highly recommended.

Went for a celebration meal but left disappointed. We tried the tasting menu and only enjoyed about a third of the offerings. In general dishes were overly salted and plates didn’t look appetizing which was disappointing for a French restaurant. The two dishes they pair for family style eating are so similar in flavor profiles. Recommend getting regular menu items and making your own pairings, not their 4 course meal. The high bench searing by the windows is awkward. I am only 5’4” and was uncomfortable hunched down to eat from a low table. Hostess and servers were attentive and pleasant.

This is our second time at Black Sheep, and on both occasions we had to wait a long time to be seated with a reservation. Last night we were seated 35 minutes after our reservation time and they offered us nothing but a few apologies. The first time, it was 20 minutes. The food is excellent and service acceptable, but they have no idea how to manage reservations. If you go be prepared to wait for your table!

Our Early Dinner was good and a good value. We were seated in a tight corner against the wall which blocked views of the rest of the restaurant and, since we’re both 6’ tall, limited my elbow room (the restaurant had plenty of tables when we came in). We found the moderate priced wines quite limited. The menu has plenty of choices that will bring us back again.

Our second time at the Black Sheep and we’ll be back again. The food is flavorful and beautifully presented - we had the early 3 course dinner before heading to a performance, and let our server know we had only an hour! Service was excellent and we had a delicious dinner with our friends - coq au vin, short ribs, creme brule, molten cake.

Our meal was wonderful! We were 3 couples and were seated upstairs where they said sound would be better for a larger group. It was an intimate area with lower ceiling than downstairs. We went early for the fixed price meal which is a great bargain. Coq au vin was best any of us had ever tasted. Best meal we have had in Santa Barbara this week!

Food was excellent. Service a little off. One of our bar food starters was brought with our main entree and should have been served up front before our small plate and large plate. A spicy pork dish which Overwhelmed the taste of the salmon entree which was otherwise delicious.
