The Black Rose
It’s name comes from the Gaelic term “Roisin Dubh” or the small black rose, which originates from a 17th century poem inked by an anonymous author who wrote: “Over the highways and byways the pilgrim goes aflame with the name of my small black rose.”
This is the essence of the Black Rose: an experience to stimulate the senses and create memories for years to come.
Pints are poured by staff with authentic brogues, the cuisine is authentic yet inventive, and there is live Irish music seven nights a week, all year round.
Really enjoyed our first dinner in Boston since whole pandemic started, bartender/waitstaff was very attentive, can’t wait to go back
homey and friendly and inspiring, all at the same time.
20 year anniversary and st paddy’s day
Went on St. Patrick’s Day. Fun Irish ambiance with music. Food is reasonably priced but not a place I would go for good quality Irish food...it was just OK. If you’re looking for a place to eat pub food, have some drinks and some fun, this is a good place to go with friends.
Great atmosphere! service was fast and friendly. Food was delicious.
We were there early on St Patrick's Day. It took a few minutes to get waited on initially but after that service was excellent. My son had a burger and I had the Shepherd's Pie which was very tasty. We also had the corned beef and cabbage spring rolls. Music was playing on the tv so there was noise, but not unreasonable. Staff wiped down tables and chairs with disinfectant between customers, 90 minute rule was followed, and there are plexiglass partitions between tables.
Was thrilled to know they would open at 8am on St. Paddy’s Day. It was the perfect way to end long night shift and start my birthday celebrations!
Great food and great service and location. Will be visiting again.
This place was fun for a drink, but not great for a meal
I recently went to The Black Rose to have lunch with my family, and I had a wonderful time! The service was great, the food was tasty and I felt very comfortable with the way they were handling the COVID guidelines. Would definitely return and would recommend to others!!
Enjoyed our Evening in Boston with the Rose as the center of the evening. Tommy and the staff were wonderful
It was closed. We tried the phone number on web site and it was disconnected.
Really great atmosphere
Perfect all around! Delicious food! Perfect service! Beautiful atmosphere! It really is the best place to go!
Food and staff were great. I am sure it is much louder when they are open fully. They were great about cleaning, separation of tables and making sure people were not bunched together as they need to during current covid restrictions. Dinner was great (oysters, chowder and lobster BLT’s) and menu had something for everyone. Looking forward to going back and enjoying dinner when things are back to “normal”.
This is a solid Irish Pub in Boston. Great decor, large place with TVs playing rugby or soccer. The food is good, but a lot of it is bar food. The portions are generous. The service we had was outstanding.
I was looking for a nice old-fashioned Irish Pub. Most of the food that we ordered was very good especially the whiskey chicken wings the shepherd's pie was phenomenal it must be one of the best Shepherd's pies I ever had. And of course they had my beer on tap which is Smithwick I truly enjoyed my two visits to the Black Rose and will definitely return on any future trips to Boston
Took 15 minutes after being seated to be asked about drinks. Place was not busy and for the time of evening on a Saturday. Food was solid though. Ambiance was really lacking- I’ll chalk up to Cvd - but other Irish bars where hopping.
We enjoyed eating at The Black Rose. The menu had a great variety of Irish and American dishes. My husband had Shepard's pie and loved it.
We arrived early and were seated immediately. We had outdoor seating the picnic tables seemed a little wobbly however with the current pandemic and restaurants rushing the get outdoor seating available for patrons that is totally understandable. Our waiter was great and the food was great. I would definitely go again.
AMAZING service food location and staff. Go, like right now, and treat yourself to some seriously epic food and kind people.
Love this place! The staff is so wonderful and lovely to interact with. The atmosphere is as close to a traditional tavern/pub you can get in the US, which is a win-win for my husband and I. We love it here. Guiness and Jameson wings for the win!
Was there for Valentines day, food was delicious, service was excellent and live music was amazing
Nice place for a meal. Def a diff type of menu (Irish...yum!) but American dishes as well. Atmosphere was typical Boston.
Made reservations through their website and walked fifteen minutes in the cold to find a locked up empty restaurant!!! Called the number and no answer! Very disappointed!
Service good, food was terrible. Fish and chips some of the worst I have had. I should of guessed for being such an iconic piece of Boston nobody was in there! Have a Guinness and then held elsewhere to eat!
What a great place to let your hair down, enjoy the apps and the ambiance. Fun music always at the Black Rose. Loved the dip with the pretzels and wished we'd had a bowl of it! - the Cheesy one!
Really fun, loud Irish Pub that has live music, depending on what time you go. Typical Irish fare that you would expect on any tavern menu. I had the corned beef sandwich, which was served on thick cut, super soft rye , with spicy mustard and ample amount of beef - It was outstanding!!
My friend got the fish and chips, which she enjoyed very much. The fish was coated with a nice crispy batter.
Food was reasonably priced. Quality of food was excellent and service efficient and friendly.
Went for a quick baits, a drink, and to watch the Super Bowl. It was not busy, music was super loud, and food was OK
The food was excellent and the entertainer, Jinny McGrath, was fantastic! Our waitress never smiled and looked to not want to be working. Sad because the four of us spent over $300.
I dined at the Black Rose two nights in a row as my business guests had mistakenly provided the wrong arrival date. The first night I had the Black Rose Burger. The Guinness onions on the burger were really good but the burger, more like a slider, was lost in the bun and toppings. My dinner guest, night one, had the beet salad (excellent) and the potato skins, which can be used as a personal defense weapon. Night two was much better. I had the grilled salmon, with jasmine rice and vegetables, perfectly cooked and delicious!! Two of my diner guests had the Shepard's Pie and loved it! The third, despite my warning, decided both burger offerings couldn't be that bad tried the only other burger on the menu, the 40th Anniversary Burger. Without any prompting from me he complemented the onions! Unfortunately he also said it was the most disappointing burger he has had in a restaurant that was not fast food.
The Service is very good and friendly. The wait time on food on the Wed and Thursday nights I was there was very reasonable. They have a good beer and cocktail selection and enough of a Irish whiskey (and others) selection to keep my Irish blood very happy. The atmosphere is traditional (American) Irish Pub and the music is perfect.
If and when I return it will be for the drinks and the music. I will try a few more of the appetizers but I am not holding my breath. I am from Central Massachusetts so this was a traffic nightmare commute in for dinner of two hours, more the next day.
Service was great. Food was good. Very noisy, making it difficult to talk during dinner.
Waiter was amazing. Great suggestions!!!
The Black Rose is a great place. Our family tries to go every time we visit Boston. Amazing food, drinks and music. A fun time, every time!!
Black Rose was a great place for lunch. A real, traditional Irish Pub. Food was quite good. Live Irish music later in the day was very nice also!
We dined at 6:30pm on a Monday. There was no live music as advertised. The service was HORRIBLE and the food was tasteless. We will never go back and do not recommend this pub. If you want GREAT food, atmosphere and service, I highly recommend the Green Dragon.
I think it was expensive for the size of what i ordered. I took the beef stew. And I was upstairs. It appears to be more fun downstairs.
Very great experience Good place I recommend tous place
