The good was just as described! Excellent small bites! The prawns, the chicken, croquettes, the olives, all were phenomenal. But it came up on Yelp as a Spanish restaurant so we were surprised it was Scottish. We also had VERY LOUD pop music playing and we couldn't hear each other at the table. I asked if they could please turn it down and he said NO it's on for the overall ambiance of the restaurant? What the heck? Then I asked if we could at least play Spanish music and he said this was NOT a Spanish restaurant but a Scottish one. That really put a damper on things but we are glad we stayed for the food. Just don't like a nice dinner ruined by blaring music for 'ambience'. Go if you don't mind that but again the food is great!

Every dish was a delight, service was quick (not too quick that you felt rushed) the food came out at just the right intervals to keep the pace and flow of meal perfect. Portion sizes were ideal for sharing plates - highly recommended place for an amazing meal

The food was lovely, bit of a blip on the dairy free diner, which was disappointing. Service was excellent and no food was bad, just never understand the 2 item small plate if there’s 3 diners. Would recommend.

Service was very friendly. Ambiance was very good, buzzy and informal. Food was nice but octopus dish was not good. Literally 3 small pieces in the dish. Poor quality. Would definitely return as a wine bar but not as a restaurant

Imaginative cocktails and delicious small plates - we ate at 5pm when it was quiet but it got busier later. Beautiful decor and knowledgeable, friendly staff. We liked everything but particularly recommend mushroom spring rolls, chicken croquettes and roasted aubergine. Hasselback potatoes were very tasty too - lots of good veggie options.

Really great spot for a lunch or supper. Loads of choice and as because it’s relatively new it’s still possible to get a table in August. Staff are lovely and the new set lunch deal is good value at £18 for 2 small plates and a side.

A lively, modern and welcoming little restaurant/bar. The ambience was great, music was fairly loud but relaxing and not to the point you would have to shout to hear table companions. Staff were really friendly and knowledgeable, and this place seems to attract a variety of people of all ages - friends, families and couples. The high point here though was the food - it was so good! We shared chicken yakatori, steak and pepper sauce, pork rib and mushroom spring roll with a side of fries - and every dish was sublime. Will definitely be back!

Very small dishes, overpriced,very loud , asked to move having already been given a booth as it was someone's birthday ! ( it was mine too ) graciously complied, reminded we only had the table for another 10 mins , whilst still awaiting our cocktails

Came for lunch during the Festival and was not disappointed - food was exceptional, small plates format gave us the perfect opportunity to try lots of delicious things, cocktails were delightful and service was friendly but unobtrusive giving my friend and I the perfect opportunity for a long overdue catch-up. Would definitely recommend

The Black Grape really is an Edinburgh gem. We went for drinks and tapas with our two 20-something daughters, and all loved it. The food was AMAZING! We tried just about every tapas…all delicious. Cocktails were creative and fun, too. Music got louder as night went on…good vibe. Loved it!

Absolutely love this place. Have been on a number of occasions. The food is delicious - beautifully presented and well prepared with really interesting flavours. The staff are wonderful - so friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend for a non-tourist trap on the Royal Mile.

It was very noisy - but then the Edinburgh Festival is on and everywhere is noisy right now. Food was fabulous. Service a wee bit patchy but it didn’t spoil the experience. Definitely one to bookmark.

Just wonderful from start to finish. We visited for a special celebration based on a recommendation, and were welcomed so kindly so we knew we had made a good choice from the beginning. The food was delicious, the wine was divine and the staff were clearly very knowledgeable about the dishes they were serving. We would return in a heartbeat. Thank you for having us!
