The Black Cat - Cambria
Open since July 4th, 2002, Black Cat Bistro is known for serving Innovative Farm Fresh Fare. The menu changes often as Black Cat Bistro consistently strives to present fare that is reflective of seasonal, local produce and organically raised or sustainable product. The food is especially cognizant of wine pairings to electrify the palate. The Black Cat has received the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for nine years in a row.
Black Cat Bistro is small with 45 seats and this is part of what makes it such an intimate dining experience. The service is attentive, unpretentious and refined. The dining rooms are decorated in soothing colors and fabrics. Down pillowed benches frame the edges of two of the three rooms. Candle light adorns the tables covered with white linen. Food is served on white china and wine in crystal Riedel stemware.
We sat on the front porch due to the restrictions on indoor dining. The food was outstanding and the service was great. Highly recommended.
We were celebrating a birthday and the restaurant did a good job of acknowledging it so thank you for that! The salmon was quite good and cooked perfectly. The arugula salad seemed quite salty and the Brussel sprouts were drowning in oil. The outdoor covered patio was ok but did seem a little closed in for this pandemic time and felt like it should have been more open. All in all a very nice experience and we enjoyed the evening there.
During this pandemic, they are serving dinner on an enclosed porch which is very comfortable and warm. The scallops and salmon were excellent. Highly recommend as a place to go during these hard times.
Unfortunately this restaurant was one of the worst experiences I have had in a long time. Raw meat, bland food, bacon bits for "bacon jam"... very poor quality especially for the prices.
Great Food, wonderful service and a charming setting! What could be better?
So thankful to be able to dine in. Our ribeyes were perfectly prepared!
It was very warm inside the restaurant. The food was good but limited menu. Service was very good. Small room with a lot of conflicting / distracting conversations.
Great service our server Sarah did a great job. Really nice patio seating.
The food was good; however, their website is not up to date. We chose this restaurant based on the menu posted on their website: abalone and octopus. When we got there, neither abalone nor octopus. Disappointing, but what we ordered was good.
This is an amazing place to have a nice meal. We sat outside and it was lovely. The service was outstanding and the food fresh and delicious.
My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner while we were staying in Cambria. The staff were very friendly and did an excellent job. The food was quite good and we gave it a 7.5 out of 10. The biggest issue for this restaurant is the curb appeal for the building and the condition of the interior which was unfortunately pretty abysmal.
We felt very safe - good social distancing. Very cozy restaurant.
Great food, services, values.
The staff was friendly though it took a little time to get our order in, probably as a result of the charges we're all going through. I might add another person to the staff, we enjoyed our meal and the overall experience was a "B."...scott
Delicious meal. Gnocchi appetizer was fabulous as was the scallops. Wild salmon was delicious too. Looking forward to returning. Heard the lamb was scrumptious! Very good service.
Great scallops and ribeye
Wine list ain't so great but the food was. Quiet due to the Covid problem but fun little place. Our server was receptionist, bar tender/wine steward, server and cashier. She was very sweet and did it all well.
This week was our 41rst wedding anniversary and Covid has made us reluctant to go out. Dinner here tonight was so sweet! We had shrimp scampi and salmon---both prepared to perfection, (not overcooked) Chocolate pot de creme was a killer climax! The service as always was gracious, and the atmosphere is very special! We were very comfortable with the safety measures for customers. It was wonderful to be out again! Thank you Sarah and company!
One of our favorite places in Cambria. Had the duck which was great
Very intimate and wonderful dining experience. Food was amazing! We got arugula salad, pork belly for appetizers and duck and scallops for entrees, and an apple tart for dessert. All of it was super delicious! Will definitely come again.
Excellent food, small portions, highest quality cooking. Nice music, feeling of a small french restaurant. Very good service.
Again, obviously a very good chef. 👍👍👍
Friendly, knowledgeable server. Food display beautify, and great taste. Kept a little long to pay check
Delicious food. Quiet, cozy atmosphere and great service!
Second time dining at The Black Cat. Both times were excellent. The ambience is quaint, feels like you're at someone's home. The food is outstanding! I will make this my go-to restaurant every time I visit Cambria. I highly recommend this restaurant.
The caeser salad did not look fresh and tasted bad. My meat was tough and the vegetables were over done. The only good part of the meal was dessert. It's hard to screw up ice cream!
Very nice people, friendly atmosphere.
Our main course was very good.
However, if you want a ceasar salad--go elsewhere. It was anything but a ceasar salad and it was terrible.
Yes, I would go back.
Wonderful ambiance and delicious food! Highly recommend!
Perfect and delicious portions. Elegantly presented.
This is our favorite restaurant in Cambria; when we venture north from LA we always make it a point to stop. The food and service is excellent, and we love the atmosphere.
This was our highlight from our trip. Scallops were delightful as well as lamb shank. Definitely coming back
Our experience at The Black Cat was horrible and I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone!! The atmosphere was disgusting (we sat on the outside patio as we had our dog which we asked about by calling ahead of making our reservation and told ok to bring her), our service was less than mediocre and our food was not seasoned at all and had no taste. None of which matched the expensive price tag. When we asked for a bottle of flat water for the table we were brought a bottle of off brand arrowhead type water. The group sitting next to us receive a far more superior experience than we were given, including nicer menus, attentive service and fresh ground pepper. We had to ask for salt and pepper and were provided shakers that didn’t even work. Very disappointing all the way around to say the least.
Food was fine, service very good
Disappointing. The service was good, but the food was sub par.
I ordered my steak medium rare. It came medium well. The vegetable with the entree was plain. Nothing memorable about the meal. Very disappointed.
Unique great find. Really enjoyed it.
We first ate at the Black Cat Bistro in 2002, then owned by Chef Deborah Scarborough. We fell in love. Later, Deborah moved on but left behind her sous chef as the new chef d'cuisine. Quality has remained, for which we are grateful This trip, we once again had a delightful, creative and enjoyable dinner, accompanied by a fine wine from the well curated wine list. Black Cat remains one of our favorite places to dine in Cambria - highly recommended
The Black Cat is provides a wonder dining experience. While we were there on a very quiet evening, service was positive and food outstanding. Have been there also when it is busy and there is no difference in service or quality of food. Very enjoyable!
Very good food & service!
Excellent meal and very quaint.
Charming location in town; small, intimate space. Interesting, original dishes, farm fresh ingredients. Excellent waitstaff, pleasant without being overbearing. The only challenge is the noise level when the rooms are full.
