The Black Cat Bistro Too- Paso Robles
Open since July 4th, 2002, Black Cat Bistro is known for serving Innovative Farm Fresh Fare. The menu changes often as Black Cat Bistro consistently strives to present fare that is reflective of seasonal, local produce and organically raised or sustainable product. The food is especially cognizant of wine pairings to electrify the palate. Black Cat Bistro is small with 45 seats and this is part of what makes it such an intimate dining experience. The service is attentive, unpretentious and refined. Candle light adorns the tables covered with white linen. Food is served on white china and wine in crystal Riedel stemware.
Roasted red bell peppers, capers, scallions, with a meyer lemon cream sauce, jasmine rice, crispy kale. Wine suggestion: Red Blend
Corn pudding, tomatillo cream, mushrooms, cilantro, brown butter. Wine suggestion: White Blend
Crispy Brussel Sprouts
blue cheese, roasted beet vinaigrette, spiced walnuts
Salmon was under cooked
Nice place in downtown Paso. Always liked their Cambria location, too.
DO NOT EAT HERE. I should have known that when I saw it was the only restaurant with available reservations last Saturday night. It was empty when myself and 5 friends arrived. The waitress was in jeans, a hoody and unmasked. She looked like she could care less. Sad little wine selection, and no full bar. Fried olives were martini olives breaded and warmed up. Mushroom app was literally the mushrooms used in the marsala dish, room temp, in a soup bowl. Rib eye had been marked on the grill years ago and appeared to have finished cooking in a steam pan. Vegetable side was a bag of frozen veg, microwaved and dumped on a plate. Saddest meal I have had in a while- should have stayed home and ordered Taco Bell.
We sat outside which was nice. The inside is not my style but others may like - too bright lighting etc. Food was fine - nothing amazing.
So unassuming from the outside we weren't sure where it was! Once inside, it had a nice modern decor. The service was very attentive! I would say it is more of a quiet dinner and thoughtful conversation kind of a place, in a very good way!
Amazing food! Hidden gem for sure.
The food was heavily sauced and the crispy kale was greasy.staff was lovely. We sat outside.
This was a great place. The food was top notch and eclectic. The fried olives were neat.
I had a reservation for 4 people, but some friends wanted to join us. The restaurant was able to accommodate our party of 10, and was happy to do so. The food was wonderful! The clam chowder was excellent and my steak was perfectly cooked. The staff was friendly and helpful. Will definitely done here again!
This was the worst meal I’ve ever had. Sautéed calamari was deep fried! My son and my daughter both got sick from their meals. We couldn’t send our meals back because each of our meals was worse than the next and what would we order instead? Avoid Black Cat Bistro at all cost.
Traditional menu - nothing special.
Very covid safe. The entire staff wore masks. We felt very safe and comfortable. The food was delicious!
Food was great and the service was excellent. My wine was perfect with my meal. I will definitely be back. My appetizer is perfect.
Lousy food. Horrible service
Food was marginal. The restaurant owners & employees do NOT wear masks….whatever that means.
Service was okay.
Just not up to par with surrounding restaurants.
The food was great such a treat while visiting from out of town, loved this place!
Low point of the weekend. I selected the fish special $30. Unseasoned fish, unseasoned steamed (or microwaved) mixed vegetables served on tasteless jasmine rice with 2 lemon wedges which were not enough to add favor to this bland meal. The only good thing was the Brussel sprout appetizer. My friend’s meal was equally as bad. Definitely no gourmet chef in this kitchen. Unfortunate last minute choice.
We arrived for our 6:00 on a Saturday reservation to an empty restaurant. That alone should have been enough to scare us off since downtown was hopping. We were greeted by a young woman in a hoodie and Vans. Also, not exactly what you expect from a finer restaurant. Crispy Brussels sprouts were deep fried and very greasy. The flavor of the brussels had been fried out. The caprese bruschetta was a bit better. The wine we ordered was no longer available. The restaurant had the air conditioning blowing so a sweater was needed. Entrees were overcooked and completely uninspired. Barley risotto? Salty and not creamy in the least. Overcooked salmon with vegetables? I make it better at home. Don’t waste your time or money on The Black Cat, Too.
The bread was fresh and warm. The end.
Really great staff that made excellent recommendations. We had a great dinner and great wine.
We were lucky to have a night with only one other table. The service, food and desserts were wonderful. It will be a place to eat again.
We really enjoyed our dinner at Black Cat Bistro. The service was great. The food was incredible. We will definitely be going back.
This menu needs an entire overhaul. Everything had cheese and parsley sprinkled on top, the ingredients (especially seafood) were not fresh. It left a terrible aftertaste. The ambiance is not inviting and in no way conveys a finer dining experience which the prices would suggest otherwise. After a few bites into the entree, we asked for the check and went somewhere else to eat. I do not recommend eating here at all. I cook better food than anything on this menu.
This restaurant should be avoided. We had a dinner reservation there for July 25, and were the only guests besides a birthday party in an outside tent. The furniture is visibly worn, the menu is rather limited, as are the choices of wine by the glass. One of us ordered half a rack of lamb from the menu, and clearly specified that it be cooked "medium rare, more towards rare". When the meat was served, it was more than well done, and very much looked and tasted like pre-cooked and warmed-up meat. My complaint was not accepted, and neither apologies nor remedial courtesies were offered. We also suspect that our Open Table reservation was not authenticated by the restaurant, because we never received the usual follow-up OT email requesting our evaluation. Our disappointment was enhanced since we were, and continue to be, quite pleased with the Black Cat sister restaurant in Cambria (where we had a perfectly satisfactory meal a few days later).
We ate here back in November 2020 and it was better. This last time, the food was less than good and quite tasteless. Burgers were over cooked, fish was boring, and the wine was warm. Not surprising since they leave the bottles on top of their refrigeration unit which tends to be warm.
Food is excellent. very tasty, savory and unique sauces
Server was a joy. Great good. Overall good experience.
Food was delicious good choices of wine service was fantastic. A bit overpriced in my opinion
Nice staff for sure, but I wasn’t impressed by the food selections I ordered.
The appetizer quail is deep fried and very bland, the opposite of succulent.
I also ordered the salmon and it was good, but, not mémorable.
I tally want to like this place so I will try again, I think many of their selections sound good, I’m not giving up hope!
Service started off good then became very slow. It appeared like our waitress was handling most of the tables and bar tending. She was very pleasant and working hard. We enjoyed a blue cheese burger and a grilled Caesar salad, which were very tasty. We also had the mushroom appetizer which I would not recommend. The waitress ended up comping our drinks because the service was so slow(I think it was the kitchen). I am guessing they were short-staffed so not extremely critical since many businesses are experiencing similar challenges coming off Covid. I might give them another try if in the area.
The food and service were good (nothing to complain about), but something about the experience felt “just okay.” We ate inside, and it seemed like the decor was just not quite finished; as though it were 95% of the way there and something was off the mark. The food was good, but a little concerning was that it looked like the sauce on my chipotle shrimp linguini was the same as my mom’s chicken piccata. I’d probably give this place another chance; there’s a possibility the ambiance issue is due to post-covid reopening.
Good, not great food. The bruschetta was excellent. The chicken main was enormous and not tender enough.
There was only one other table of customers that evening. Service was excellent . Special requests were handled graciously.
The food ranged from fair to good, but was priced too high for the quality. The steak tasted like it had no seasoning. But the worst part of the experience was the environment. We were seated next to a very noisy table, the decor was tacky and out dated, and the lighting was HORRIBLE! Way too bright! And the lights were like bad office lighting. Totally destroyed any sense of privacy or romance.
Really good food and service. The atmosphere was a little cluttered but nice. (I'm sure in a non COVID world it would be perfect. Overall great experience.
Everything was great !
Plus exceptional service.
We had dinner at the Black Cat Bistro Too on a Thursday night. The restaurant was following all the safe distance practices. We started off with a caprese appetizer and cheese plate which were excellent. My wife for her entree had the gnocchi plate which was prepared in an unusual way and not very good so she only had a couple of bites. I had the salmon which was just average, a bit overcooked. We also had a couple of glasses of wine that were excellent.
The place is hidden. We found on Yelp. It was worth the stop. The food was amazing ! Service impeccable.
Bad first impression. No one at hostess desk at opening. 7-8 propane tanks sitting around front area. Food was good and service was good. Place looked unkept. Too bad.
