The Black Cat Bistro Too- Paso Robles
Open since July 4th, 2002, Black Cat Bistro is known for serving Innovative Farm Fresh Fare. The menu changes often as Black Cat Bistro consistently strives to present fare that is reflective of seasonal, local produce and organically raised or sustainable product. The food is especially cognizant of wine pairings to electrify the palate. The Black Cat has received the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for nine years in a row.
Black Cat Bistro is small with 45 seats and this is part of what makes it such an intimate dining experience. The service is attentive, unpretentious and refined. Candle light adorns the tables covered with white linen. Food is served on white china and wine in crystal Riedel stemware.
Both the food and the service were excellent. There was a very wide selection on the menu, and the prices were quite reasonable. I rated the "ambiance" and noise factor a little lower (tables were inside a tent out in the street), but due to COVID restrictions there is little else the restaurant could have done. At least they were open!
Good food, plenty to choose from, good service... my second visit there... better than the first.
excellent place. Nice service. Delicious. Nice wines
Delicious soups. Pesto sauce is amazing!
The food was fabulous. I did have a hair in my entree, but didn't make a big deal about it.
Glad we went here on our visit to Paso! The food was absolutely amazing. Can’t wait to go again! 😃🥂
We love the laid back atmosphere and the nice variety on the menu ...desserts a plus too.
Food was outstanding. Wine List could use a refresh, but I'm guessing that it's Covid related.
Of course these are difficult times to say the least. The staff is wonderful and very attentive.
Sitting on the makeshift patio does not give you the fine dining experience and people are not dressing to reflect that either.
Quail appetizer was good but not great, duck breast was also good.
Everything was excellent!!
The salmon and rack of lamb were delicious. The staff are great. We ate outside but indoors was an option.
Very nice dinner.
Great food, great service!
We were celebrating my husband’s birthday with a trip to Paso Robles. We had the clam chowder, crab cake appetizer, the seafood pasta and the grilled scallops! All very good. Service was good.
Our server was new, he tried but didn’t know menu. Food was mediocre for the price. Very pleasant people
Ate at the bar as is our custom. Server was great and helped with suggestions.
Had apps and shared rack of lamb with great wine pairing.
Highly recommend and will return.
I had pork chop, it was a tough but flavor was good. Brussels sprouts were amazing. Others in party had rack of lamb, salmon and scallops. Some of the meals were not hot.
The staff did a great job. They were greatly understaffed. There were only 3 working the front, a server, hostess and bus boy. They had tables inside and out. They were hustling so I do not fault them for cold meals. They were doing the best they could.
I’ll give them another try. I feel there may be a little regrouping after the recent shutdowns.
Nice little place with a nice outdoor area as well as indoor seating that's nicely spaced out. Great menu with lots of choices. Definitely will go back again!
The food and service was great. We really enjoyed sitting on the patio and had our own heater!
Although they were back seating people inside we decide to eat on the front patio. It wasn't too cold but they provided a heater next to our table.
The wine list had several local wines on it and when we couldn't decide they provided us with several samples to make choosing the wine easier.
The food was delicious and service was great. I would definitely recommend
this restaurant and am excited to eat at this place again the next time we are in town.
Our server was excellent, the food was great and definitely a delightful value for the price. We had a variety of dishes in our party of six that included rib eye steaks, chicken picata, rack of lamb and seafood pasta and every one enjoyed their meal. Definitely a recommended two thumbs up!
This place wasn't worth their price. It looked nice, the servers are friendly, but the food wasn't prepared well. Here are the 3 things that made me and my wife feel this way. 1. Drinks:The Iced Tea they served was made using the coffee maker. How do I know? It came out very cloudy and tasted like... coffee. I sent it back for a sprite. It was bar quality sprite. You know, low carbonation to use for mixed drinks. 2. Food/chef:My Ribeye was undercooked. Not enough to send back, but medium-well I ordered, and it came medium to parts being medium-rare. My wife's chicken came out chewy, over cooked. I believe what happened was that the chef put both meats on the grille at the same time. Ended up over cooking the chicken and thought the thick ribeye was done too, so he plated both to get them served at the same time. 3. Knives: How are you going to serve a straight edge knife to cut a steak? A dull one at that. Did you know more people cut their themselves on accident with dull knives than sharp ones? You know how much pressure I had to put on that knife to cut one bite? Too much that I ended up using the regular knife served with the two forks since it was serrated and more effective. 4. BONUS: Both my wife and I ended up having a night of bowel movements.
Last thought, this place seems like a place to party, not to eat at. I get it, people need to be back to work and earn some money after all the craziness. With that said, food service like this won't help keep your doors open. These issues are easy enough to pivot from. I won't be back to see if anything has changed, but maybe this will prevent you from loosing more patrons.
Found the restaurant on open table. Took a chance to book and fell in love with the staff, food, and location. Our server Carlos was awesome. Very helpful and attentive. Would go back for sure and highly recommend. Good job to all at the Black Cat Bistro too.
We had previously dined at Black Cat in September and had a fabulous meal so decided to go there again during our latest Paso Robles wine trip. Unfortunately, it was not up to our expectations. Our server recommended the ribeye steak so 3 out of 4 of us ordered it cooked medium. I ordered the small version and 2 friends ordered the large ones. When mine arrived it was a large one cut in half and completely cooked through well. Both of the large steaks were similarly overcooked and so tough we couldn't cut them without a lot of effort. The other friend's hamburger was also way overcooked and she described it tasting like sawdust. To the restaurant's credit they didn't charge us for our entrees and instead sent out some additional appetizers that were pretty good (not great) and the server was very apologetic. But we will not be going back. There are too many great restaurants in Paso to take a chance on an inconsistent experience.
The food just needed to be seasoned, it just didn’t have any seasoning. It took about an hour and a half to get our food, our total dinner was 2 hours. I did like that we were seated right away, I made a reservation but there were plenty of tables. It looked like only 2 people were working. The staff was nice. The low stars is due to the wait for the food and the overall taste of the food.
Everything was great!
Great Thanksgiving dinner on a chilly night helped out with heat lamps, gotta eat fast before food gets cold, everyone is doing their best to get through this dilemna.
The was nicely prepared and flavorful, but I would exactly describe it as Italian.
We continue to be amazed at this wonderful resturant! Our go to when we visit Paso Robles. We love it!
We had a party of four and three of us ordered a burger with pork belly bleu cheese which sounded great on the menu. However it was easily the worst meal I’ve had in years. Cold store bought buns, cold pork, no condiments. We asked for a redo and all three of us were given a microwaved overcooked awful meal.
We had a great dinner. They were able to take us an hour earlier than our reservation. The food was great and they were good with substitution.
Service was awful. Had to ask 4 times for parmasian cheese. Brought it after pasta was gone. No coffee with dessert due to them not having any cups! Bad experience all around
Great food and service. Really appreciate no corkage if you bring your own wine from local wineries
The food is delicious (the shrimp appetizer, the stuffed pork chop, the perfectly roasted veggies) and the service was so good. My only suggestion would be to freshen up the atmosphere. It didnt feel as high quality visually as the food and service provided. But overall, it was really good.
Just really mediocre food for a overly high price. Ordered burger medium rare came out well done... smashed bun pitiful toppings. “Award Winning” clam chowder was runny honestly get better stuff out of the can. The Chicken Piccata was DRY as a bone except in the thickest part; the cup and bowl or soup are exactly the same size (we checked) no crackers with clam chowder; no floating or toppings on soup of the day in our case tomato bisque. Seafood pasta was ok... the free bread was actually really good but came with rock hard cold butter. You better off eating next door... we were envious of the outside table next to us
Good quality bistro with curated selection of dishes. Nothing too simple, yet nothing overwhelming either. Food is generous, flavorful, but not complex. Service was attentive and friendly, but for a wine-centric area such as Paso Robles, needed further education on regional wine characteristics.
The food here was delicious. We were there on a Tuesday night so it was pretty quiet.
We tried quite a few things and they were all solid: Brussel sprouts - fantastic, gnocchi appetizer- decadent, bruschetta- very good. For mains we had the rack of lamb and the duck - both excellent. Would definitely come back next time we are in town - and definitely recommend
It was a nice warm evening so it was nice to sit outside with the lights and there were people strolling past, so the ambience was nice. Have to say though the food was VERY mediocre. My sisters scampi was not really 'scampi' it was shrimp in a sauce with rice and veggies on the side. The rice and veggies were served cold and the shrimp was just lukewarm. I had the gnocchi appetizer and they were pretty good, but also not hot when served. Also ordered the 'crab' cakes, they were more 'cake' than 'crab' unfortunately. It overall was nice enough, but I would not go back here again.
Second time at the Black Cat. Bothtimes were great, no issues with anything. Will be back!
