Black Cat Bistro is small with 45 seats and this is part of what makes it such an intimate dining experience. The service is attentive, unpretentious and refined. Candle light adorns the tables covered with white linen. Food is served on white china and wine in crystal Riedel stemware.
Roasted red bell peppers, capers, scallions, with a meyer lemon cream sauce, jasmine rice, crispy kale. Wine suggestion: Red Blend
Crispy Brussel Sprouts
blue cheese, roasted beet vinaigrette, spiced walnuts
Corn pudding, tomatillo cream, mushrooms, cilantro, brown butter. Wine suggestion: White Blend
The food was the main attraction followed very closely by the outstanding service. From the moment we walked in, we were treated like we were with family. We will definitely be back!
My duck was cooked perfectly and my partner’s stuffed pork chop was inventive and delicious. The service was impeccable, as well. Would definitely recommend.
Very disappointed with our dining experience on Jan 1 2022; wait service was unorganized and disjointed; the mahi mahi dinner special was very disappointing; other dishes ordered were ok.
Nice little cozy restaurant! Good lamb chops and the duck was cooked to perfection.
I was walking downtown Paso Robles and I happen to see this restaurant. I decided to take my family out to dinner for a celebration.
Everything was great. I just felt like we were being rushed. For instance just as I sat down the first thing was ask was can I get you your drinks and have you decide what you'd like to order.. I hadn't even looked at the menu. Soon appetizers were served and before we could get them on our plate they were asking to take the appetizer plate away.... we had just started to serve ourselves and reaching in for some more. Then as we were winding down, I was still eating and they immediately asked if we care for dessert? I haven't finished my entree. Being attentive is one thing but making me feel like I should rush out is another. So overall, great food but the servers need to relax a bit.
Food was adequate
I wish I could give a better rating but I would by lying. The staff and service was very nice, but they could not make up for the food. My $30 flat iron steak was 6 slices covered mostly with a tart gravy not noted in the menu description. My uncovered steak slices was also bland. The (fried) rice ball paired in my plate was also undesirable and not a good match to the slices of steak. My husband’s $28 shrimp scampi turned out to be a curry like in-scampi taste served with white rice. The food was not worth the price tags.
It was Christmas night and it was excellent. Good food and great place.
Rather pricey but fine. Not sure we will return.
The only reason this review is not 5 stars is due to the chilly interior...most diners kept their coats on while dining. And, it would be nice if the interior lights were dimmed a bit - would make for a more intimate dining experience. Otherwise, food and service were terrific!
Decent food but something needs to be done with the ambiance. Dim the lights at least!
I ordered the duck and it was good. My husband doesn’t like his seafood paste. There are two young kids or teens hanging around the bar. I understand it's a slow night, but it still doesn’t make an upper-class restaurant look so good. Service was great.
Wonderful dining experience. Intimate atmosphere, great food, personable staff, wine pairings with every course. Need I say more? I look forward to returning next time I’m in Paso Robles and also going to the location in Cambria.
The decor despite its name was sans black cats. The Mahi special was tasty & accompanied by an ok veggie medley. My husband loves seafood anything and the seafood pasta was very much to his liking.
The brussel sprouts appetizer was excellent. The seafood pasta and rib eye were nice, but not excellent. The flat iron steak was very tough. I assume it was grassfed beef, but cut too thick and not a good cut choice for the preparation used. Also the rice croquet was bland as was the mango topping. All good concepts, need to work on recipes and ingredients.
My husband and I came to Paso for our anniversary weekend. We went to the Black Cat Bistro Thanksgiving night as only 4 places around City Park were open. It was absolutely delicious!!!! Can’t wait to come back to visit and return to Black Cat Bistro. My husband had the rack of lamb andI had the traditional Turkey dinner. The service was excellent and I just can’t say enough about how tasty the food was. We also had the crispy Brussels sprouts which were amazing!!!
We were celebrating thanksgiving and our 50th wedding anniversary. Food and service outstanding. I had the best ever grilled pork chop & sauce. My husband had excellent rack of lamb.
The dinner was FABULOUS!!! Thanksgiving dinner at a restaurant can be sketchy. Not the case at the Black Cat Bistro Too. Everything was fresh and just delicious. Service was WONDERFUL!!! We loved it so much that we gave the whole staff elephant origami dollar bills!!! We will return!
The lights should be dimmed. I felt like I was on display it in a coffee shop. . It would add to the ambience and make people feel like they are in a nice dining establishment.
The wait staff was great but the food was not. My party of three each ordered the claim chowder to start and each bowl was lukewarm. That was the only dish we had in common and each of us became sick later that night. I ordered a steak medium rare, but instead it came out raw. My wife had the scallops and said those were well prepared. Maybe they had an off night, but it’s unlikely we will return.
it was fabulous except the lights need to be dimmer for dinner.
Our service was very good! The food was just average. My chicken piccata was not what I expected and it seemed like it was more of a cheese sauce than a piccata sauce. The kale had way too much olive oil on it. We also ordered mahi-mahi and it was pretty good. The clam chowder was delicious! We also had a very good chocolate cake for dessert! The decor is so odd and looks mismatched. It’s missing something in the ambience feel!
The shrimp scampi was excellent!
Excellent food and service. Love the interior decorations - modern, eclectic hanging lights and wood panels. Manager were very helpful to make wine pairing recommendations and staff were all very attentive and accommodating.
We dined at The Black Cat Bistro for our anniversary. Before making the reservation I looked up the restaurant and it had good reviews. The food was prepared great, hubby had flat iron and I had duck breast. The food seemed like it was pre-cooked. It came out quickly after we ordered and was cooked well, it was kind of blah. Technically speaking it was cooked well, we were underwhelmed with the experience.
Service was great. The entire experience was over quickly and it wouldn’t be a place I would tell other people to go to. I would have preferred to go to one of the other restaurants we dined at on our trip. There is nothing negative to say about this restaurant other than, it wasn’t amazing!
Salmon was under cooked
Nice place in downtown Paso. Always liked their Cambria location, too.
DO NOT EAT HERE. I should have known that when I saw it was the only restaurant with available reservations last Saturday night. It was empty when myself and 5 friends arrived. The waitress was in jeans, a hoody and unmasked. She looked like she could care less. Sad little wine selection, and no full bar. Fried olives were martini olives breaded and warmed up. Mushroom app was literally the mushrooms used in the marsala dish, room temp, in a soup bowl. Rib eye had been marked on the grill years ago and appeared to have finished cooking in a steam pan. Vegetable side was a bag of frozen veg, microwaved and dumped on a plate. Saddest meal I have had in a while- should have stayed home and ordered Taco Bell.
We sat outside which was nice. The inside is not my style but others may like - too bright lighting etc. Food was fine - nothing amazing.
So unassuming from the outside we weren't sure where it was! Once inside, it had a nice modern decor. The service was very attentive! I would say it is more of a quiet dinner and thoughtful conversation kind of a place, in a very good way!
Amazing food! Hidden gem for sure.
The food was heavily sauced and the crispy kale was greasy.staff was lovely. We sat outside.
This was a great place. The food was top notch and eclectic. The fried olives were neat.
I had a reservation for 4 people, but some friends wanted to join us. The restaurant was able to accommodate our party of 10, and was happy to do so. The food was wonderful! The clam chowder was excellent and my steak was perfectly cooked. The staff was friendly and helpful. Will definitely done here again!
This was the worst meal I’ve ever had. Sautéed calamari was deep fried! My son and my daughter both got sick from their meals. We couldn’t send our meals back because each of our meals was worse than the next and what would we order instead? Avoid Black Cat Bistro at all cost.
Traditional menu - nothing special.
Very covid safe. The entire staff wore masks. We felt very safe and comfortable. The food was delicious!
Food was great and the service was excellent. My wine was perfect with my meal. I will definitely be back. My appetizer is perfect.
Lousy food. Horrible service
Food was marginal. The restaurant owners & employees do NOT wear masks….whatever that means.
Service was okay.
