The Black Barrel Tavern
While the staff was friendly, the food was average and the ambience was fine, (nothing special here folks) - a $19.00 martini? And Tito’s no less. They charged 8.00 for the martini, and then a separate charge for the Tito’s. When our waitress called the manager over to explain, he told us that because a standard pour of vodka is 1 & 1/2 ounces, martinis have twice as much, hence the “extra” charge. We said that it seemed like a lot for a sports bar (TVs everywhere), he said that it was normal for “this area”. Condescending... We left after not even being comped the drink - or at least a portion of it - walked a block East and went to a place almost exactly the same. Martini was 13.00. I’ll never go back there.
Nice new place. Food and service were great. Casual but clean and upscale feel. Plenty of tv’s to keep an eye on the games without feeling like a sports bar... great balance. Owner came by a few times to ensure we were well cared for. Great addition to the neighborhood.
I hope this was just an off day for this restaurant. There were 8 of us and when we walked in, the place was pretty empty except for maybe 2-3 tables of 2 or 4 people. The staff was pleasant, but the food was not good and many of us didn't feel good later after eating different meals. Food also came out 1 or 2 at a time and then there were big lags between so we actually didn't eat all together. We thought it was hysterical when the waitress asked how things tasted and half of our table had not been served yet!! Too many other restaurants out there to go back here.
Good portions, friendly service, fair price.
Amazing food staff and atmosphere!!
This place is billed as a cool new bar. Nice place, but very loud. Not a place for a date if you expect to do much talking. On the plus side, good food, drinks, and very good service made it a nice experience minus the noise.
A nice place for lunch. Price was bad for a large bowl of Chili and chips.
They just opened a few weeks ago and this was our first time there. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. We ordered a dinner salad and a hamburger with fries. The hamburger and the dinner salad were both very good. Fries were fine, not outstanding, but we did eat almost all of them. Service was very good and our water glasses were never even allowed to be only half full. We also spoke with one of the managers who wanted to make sure we were enjoying our meal. As we told him, the service and food were great, but the noise level was more than we wanted on a night out, even in the West Loop. But perhaps the 20-somethings all liked it. We will probably go back, but more likely for lunch or a less crowded and (hopefully) quieter weekday evening.
2nd time here and loved it even more. Food is amazing, great variety and everything is great.
We had been eagerly awaiting the opening of black barre
Fun new restaurant / bar! Food is really solid. Great add to west loop
Loved the apps! But our waitress was a little rude. She seemed annoyed the entire time.
Thry are in a tough spot replacing a long time neighborhood favorite, beer bistro so I give them an A for effort. Food was fine, like most bar food you come across. I had a cocktail that was decent as well. Im just not sure they hit the mark on the “upscale sports bar” they tried to create. Its nice but I wouldn’t consider it upscale. I would go back to watch games and drink. Tons of tv’s all over. I imagine on Sundays they’ll have all games on, which is nice for fantasy football and gamblers like me.
Great new spot in the West Loop. Food was very good especially the Meatball appetizer.
