As good an experience as ever. Very tasty Sea Bass special and very reasonably priced. Great ambience and background music.

Initially when we booked we were contacted to be advised there would be a limited menu of 3 dishes due to festival music weekend. Which I thought that was kind of them to do so. However, we had a choice of Fish Curry, a chicken dish and a vegan dish. Three of us had the fish dish and one had vegan tagine. We should have complained as the fish curry we struggled to find any fish full of aubergine no colour at all was all grey and watery didn’t resemble a curry lacked taste, not at all the vibrant curry we were expecting. Also chick pea tagine and squash with cous cous very bland although looked bright. No one came to us to see if we wanted a dessert which was probably a good thing if the mains were anything to go by. Disappointing as we were celebrating a friends birthday, but not to worry we crossed to Kingswear and bought more food in the steam packet pub as we were still hungry. Now that was exceptional.

Didn’t realise the Jazz night had a set menu. The food consisted of three sausages in a watery casserole with lukewarm warm lumpy mashed potato. So the food was not great. But the Jazz quartet (The Vintage Jazz Trio + guest) was incredible and made for a superb night out!

We really enjoyed our meal here. I thought the menu was a bit limited, but the food was great. It was very quiet for a Saturday night which was a shame.

Hadn’t eaten here for a while but it never ceases to please. My wife had the fish of the day that she described as lovely and I had the minute steak. Only £22 for a steak which is less than most pubs! Great value for money!

We had dinner here twice and it was wonderful . Michele was our server and she terrific , food delicious . It’s upscale in a cozy warm setting …. We had the beef bourgignon which was served with mashies and was a winner . There was a fresh fish option also . You will not be disappointed .

We visited Browns on Thursday the 29th August, we booked well in advance on account of it being Dartmouth Regatta week, so fully expected such a well know bistro to be very busy for our 7:30pm booking. It was not. The greeting by the staff was very good and friendly, and helpful. We had a choice of which table to use, there was only one other person in the bistro at this time! The menu itself had a fair few selections covering all the usual options of (Vg) (VGO) etc. My wife did not want a starter and I chose the Cider and honey glazed Chorizo with sourdough (GFO) / £9. which was OK but the sourdough was just two small pieces, and the cider flavour did not come through at all because of the honey. My wife selected the fish of the day, a beautiful piece of filleted sea bass, which she thoroughly enjoyed, so thank you for that. I opted for Minute Steak (2x4oz) / £22 with garlic butter or peppercorn sauce, French fries, roasted cherry vine tomatoes and mixed leaf salad. Sadly this was a bit of a let down, the steak although medium to rare in order to make sure it was not tough did not come off, also it was quite lacking in steak flavour, it was covered in something that was pale and watery, which I assumed was supposed to be the sauce, or perhaps the chef forgot to put the sauce on it who knows? Why serve fries in a supposedly upmarket bistro? They go cold as soon as you look at them, and these were slightly overcooked and hard. The dessert section consists of mainly a chocolate brownie or ice cream variations, not a very enterprising selection. All in all I can see why this establishment was not rammed to the gunnels on what is probably one of the busiest weeks of the year for the town of Dartmouth. The waitress was very polite and friendly and it was for that reason only that we left a tip. We will not be returning.

Only marked down because there were few other customers so the atmosphere was a little lacking, but otherwise excellent

We had a wonderful meal and drinks here. Beautiful decor and ambience, I had the fish special of the day which was delicious and had great presentation. Staff are friendly and chatty and very helpful with any dietary requirements too. Good selection of local drinks options. 5 stars!
