I liked the food but the restaurant is to expensive. For example, 9 average chicken wings for $16 or chicken with green beans for almost $20 without sides. I would go back to this place if prices went down. They can't expect to have fine dining prices if they are not a fine dining restaurant.
Brunch delish. Great drinks
Great food, nice 2nd floor outdoor dining space, breakfast sandwich and Nutella waffle were both excellent. Wished they’d gussied up my mimosa a little—a grapefruit peel curl? Something? Other than that, thought the place was awesome.
For brunch, we sat outside at the tables, which were fine. The food was fine. My breakfast taco dish was delicious. The watermelon salad could have been tastier, perhaps by adding fresh mint. The deviled eggs were interesting.
There were times when I hoped that we could get our coffee cups topped up, when no server was around. We had to help ourselves to hot pepper sauce and salt and pepper.
Overall, it was a satisfactory meal.
The staff was very friendly. My waiter was the perfect amount of attentive, without being obnoxious or over-bearing. He gave good advice on what to order. I had the vegan option, which was delicious! It was plenty of food and I loved the flavor of the polenta, mushrooms, tofu and other vegs.
The only complaint I have (which was beyond the restaurant’s control) was the couple sitting too close to me having an annoying conversation filled with the word “like.” Excrutiating! In other words, if I could’ve like sat somewhere like away from them, I like would have.
Nice staff, really good food
Fantastic food & service! Really really good choice for someone looking to try something new in DC.
Ed was an incredible bartender who was super attentive to our needs! We also had just the most wonderful server who paced out our dishes well, ensured our coffee was full, and didn't seem overbearing at ALL!
I was confused upon arriving because it was a beautiful day and there appeared to be lots of seating outside. I indicated an outdoor table would be great, but the hostess said none were available. I asked if the open tables outside were already reserved and she said, no, it was on a FCFS basis. I figured that only large tables were available outside and they couldn’t seat our party or three outside. This leads me to believe their seating is weird. They’ve locked themselves into a lot of 6-tops that can’t be modified into smaller tables. That said the place is cute and I enjoyed the decor as J waited a few minutes for the rest of my table to arrive. I was served coffee pretty quickly, but when the rest of our table showed up, the waiter was nowhere to be seen and 15-20 minutes later, another waitress came by for their beverage order. Our waiter reappeared to take our order. We got the deviled eggs, I got the omelet, another person got the breakfast sandwich and someone else got the eggs Benedict. We also got biscuits which were really not special although the honey butter was good. The order was accurate. I didn’t ask my group how their food was, but for a place that specializes in egg and poultry, I expected more for the omelet. Everything was hammered - eggs and vegetables over cooked and not very flavorful. The side salad was not special. I found the avocado deviled egg to be a lot better than the buffalo style one - J had much higher hopes for the buffalo style deviled egg.
In spite of that fact that we waited a good 40 minutes for our food, the staff were very eager to clear it away, hovering and asking if we were done when there was food on the place. It felt rude like they were rushing us even though there had been no rush to take our order and there was no line outside and empty tables available. Service was just mechanical. No one seemed excited about the food or experience. Just serve it and clear it. Prob won’t return and I don’t recommend
Went there for a casual birthday dinner. The restaurant has a ton of different areas (each has their own vibe) from an outdoor patio on the street, ground floor, upstairs, and an upstairs deck. Overall the food was fantastic. The chicken wings, fried chicken, and quail (little bird big plate) were highlights.
Went to celebrate recently getting engaged. Staff and guests were great. Food was fantastic! We both had leftovers which is rare for us. Make sure you try the homemade hot sauces. Soo delicious.
So delicious! Cute little spot... Duck Meatballs! Delicious... Everything was spot on.
Amazing! The food is delicious and the waiter gave us free ice cream because it was my birthday! Super nice of them!
Great chicken, amazing drinks and desserts.
The service was terrible. There was a long wait at the front. The host did not care, took us to a spot upstairs in a corner. No mention of Happy Hour only being applicable downstairs. This was Sunday July 1. The server was very cold, no greeting and we waited some time for her to come over. The food was OK, our white meat chicken was dry. The décor was nice.
The fried chicken sandwich with an a fried egg on the pretzel bread bun was excellent!
They delivered on farm to table dining with nice vegetarian options. However the flavor was a little lacking and service was slow. Outdoor seating was nice in a quiet neighborhood. Add some citronella candles for the non-southerners.
Pre-theater, happy hour, ate on the roof top which was lovely. Service was super food was fun we will be back for a real meal sometime to this really good find.
Came here to enjoy a nice birthday dinner and had a wonderful time. The server clearly new the menu and gave us great suggestions. The mumbo (wings) were incredible and I hope to return asap to enjoy them again!
This was my second time at the restaurant and it was not enjoyable. The kitchen ran out of food and the bar ran out of certain spirits. It was very disappointing; the food was just okay. I hope that they improve their service and menu.
Food has deteriorated quite a lot since last year.
It was not just one day. I’ve experienced that in my last visits. The whole roasted chicken is completely different to what they used to serve.
Great food and service. Edward was particularly great!
First times there and we loved it! We will definitely be back sooner than later! Loved everything but we loved the wings most!
The food is nothing special, not especially tasty. In addition, there barely vegetarian options. The environment and the service are good. We are not coming back because we did not like the food.
The restaurant is cute. Very clean with lovely staff. The drinks and food came out promptly and were delicious. Our waiter was very kind and efficient. I will go back.
We had a nice time celebrating my grandfather's 90th birthday. We appreciated the accommodations they made for him and my grandmother, who are wheelchair-bound and walker-bound, respectively. The food was generally excellent; it was fun to have small plates. The only thing that was a little lacking was the seafood paella; it wasn't bad, it just wasn't as good as the other dishes, only maybe average compared to other paellas I've had. Otherwise, very fun theme with food to match.
The Bird is an awesome neighborhood spot with great outdoor and indoor dining, excellent atmosphere and staff, and most importantly, delicious food at an affordable price point. Great for groups and families. Definitely going to be making this my new go-to.
Delicious food, great service, great experience. This is a great spot for brunch or dining with friends.
Thanks for accommodating us!!
Our 19 YO semi-vegan daughter chose The Bird, based on recommendations from whatever social media they now use (my Facebook to her is like a rotary Princess phone).
A very cute and “funky” (a descriptive word from my generation, from when we used stone tools) and quasi-hipster-ish.
It is a real gem and has an ambience of a neighborhood insider’s place. Ample outdoor (multi-level) dining, along with very interestingly designed indoor spaces. Decorating is best described as “college hangout sheik”.
Great, reasonable scope menu of highly creative plates and appetizers. Decent wine and mix-master cocktail list. Moderate (surprisingly)priced menu of chicken, hen, duck, highly creative dishes, salads and small plates.
Food was great! Portioning was perfect. Service was highly attentive. Great work and service staff. Ambiance was very cool.
Highly recommend for date night, friends dinner, (or whatever 19-20 YO’s call it).
It was good food but nothing exciting and for the price it was not good enough.
Great food, deep flavors (i got the fried chicken Benedict), and great service... reasonably priced as well.
Beautifully decorated restaurant, love the art. The staff is warm and friendly. Unique and delicious themed menu
This restaurant has managed to elevate making of bland food into an art form. Even a pinch of salt would have made it mildly palatable. Interesting menu ideas but utterly atrocious execution.
Went for my last weekend before moving out of DC. It was a great choice. Wonderful food and nice and quiet. I didn't have to ask "what?" a million times when talking to my friends.
Best wings (mambo) I've had in DC! Such a cute space, indoor and outdoor.
Sangria was weak, but everything else was amazing!!
The food here is delicous. This restaurant has become a favorite for me and my friends. Highly recommend it. The duck bacon is an absolute must for Sunday Brunch.
My husband and I had breakfast at The Bird for my birthday. It was a Sunday morning around 10am. The decor is cool, the food was awesome, and the service was great! I had the Fried Chicken Eggs Benedict and a side of grits - excellent & just what I was craving.
Simply excellent! Everything including the delicious and well portioned food, the attentive and friendly service by Kylee, the wonderful decor, and good company made this a great experience. Check out the duck meatballs and Amish chicken!
