Really nice servers, great fried chicken, desserts and much more. Everyone was attentive and considerate to us. The menu is big and there is a lot of good to choose from. I hear this restaurant is switching hands, I hope it doesn't mean it will be replaced.
Beware the wine prices! Went for Restaurant week and enjoyed the food immensely, but nearly had a heart attack over the bill.
The Bird has been on my go-to list for a while, perhaps setting expectations that exceeded actual experience. Service was attentive, but the timing was WAY off: 20+ minutes between removal of appetizers and arrival of entrees (the kitchen being "backed up" on a busy Friday night is barely an excuse). The mumbo wings were great, but we had to request wet napkins (which we were told are being "phased out" -- seriously?!) to clean off our sticky fingers (plus the upstairs restroom was out of order). The duck meatballs were delicious, but how about a bread accompaniment to sop up that wonderful gravy? The dryness of the white meat in their signature Amish chicken dish was very disappointing, especially given the poultry-centric nature of their menu. The Thai smoked chicken was much better overall. It did not help that our party was sandwiched between two VERY loud parties of 10+ people, making even simple conversation a struggle. This was a dining experience that could not end soon enough. Overall, a rather disappointing first experience at a restaurant that seemed ideal for a poultry-loving diner like me.
The staff was very kind and attentive we were celebrating a recent marriage and they brought dessert with a sparkler and champagne
The food is generous, but the duck and chicken were a bit overdone
What is this chicken for breakfast thing? Chicken Benedict. OOHHH! That’s good. Went to this restaurant because it was part of eatwelldc group. Unforrtunatly due to time we had to pick brunch. I was concerned about having chicken for breakfast. (Very similar to the concern at the pig, What would be available on the menu for our non-meat eating friend) And I think he ate better than use) But I digress. The bird was very cute. A nice assortment of flavored Mimosas. The coffee was delicious. Instead of bread to the table they brought a small bowl of coco puff to snack on. Carl got the fried green tomatoes benedict. He really enjoyed it. I had the chicken benedict. Excellent. The server was most pleasant and perky. The host and manager were welcome and friendly. Yes Yes Yes! I like this Chicken thing for breakfast.
It was cool. The food was good. Reasonable prices. It was nice and clean. An overall nice little spot.
We had a group of seven for brunch. We had outstanding service, no rushing us to leave, fantastic food, and we could even hear one another. Perhaps not ideal for vegetarians (though they easily accommodated two in our group) but we all loved the food and would go back in a heartbeat! Biscuits are to die for....
One of the best meals I’ve had in a while! We had the duck prosciutto and salami with two cheeses and it was incredibly tasty! I’d do it again in a heartbeat! Highly recommend it! Our server was attentive and knowledgeable! She was awesome! Thank you!
Good appetizers, flavorless fried chicken served cold, accompanying potato salad and kimchee equally flavorless.
Unique avian Centric cuisine in a creative setting
Prefect place to celebrate that special birthday!
I went to this restaurant on December 23rd and was beyond disappointed by the quality of the food and service. The food was extremely overcooked and dry. I purchased their deviled egg flight and the flavors were all one note and basic. I also purchased their half chicken with potatoes and carrots...the chicken was devoid of flavor, the carrots were extremely over cooked, and the potatoes were beyond forgettable. My date got the turkey leg and said it was like eating leather.
This restaurant had made my list earlier in the year based off of other people's recommendations; however, apparently since the chef that was present at that time left the food has had a steep decline.
I am sorry to say, but between the inexperienced/unprofessional staff as well as the utter disappointment with the food, I will going to Safeway/Giant's hot and ready section in the future before returning to this establishment.
Food was good and would dine there again but apps took forever to come while table next to us, which was seated 30 minutes after we arrived, got the same thing in a fraction of the time. Noise level went from quiet to overload in an instant.
Loved this creative restaurants with good selection of cocktails and such an interesting and tasty menu. Also, the restaurant has a good vibe; everyone who works there seems to be happy. I highly recommend this trendy restaurant in Shaw.
A group of 8 of us went for brunch. None of us had been before and we all just loved it. Get atmosphere and decor. Service was very attentive. Food and drink were delicious. We ordered a range of things from the menu 2 appetizers, one side (brussel sprounts--yum!) and around 4-5 mains. Everyone loved what they got. We were all talking about going back--especially in the warm weather when their upper deck will be open.
Me and my fiancé went before we saw a play in DC and absolutely loved it! He got the wing platter and had enough to take home. I dined off the happy hour menu, and had two drinks and they were both exquisite. The waitress had no issue exchanging my drink for one that I would like more. We loved the bird theme.
Nice restaurants in a corner townhouse with fun murals and decor. Energetic ambience. Dining rooms on two levels. Good size food portions. Attentive service. Little chocolate eggs served in a cute bird nest at the end of the meal is a nice touch.
This was my first visit to the Bird. I travel to DC option and I was glad to find a new restaurant. The place is a cozy spot and the food was great!
It was way too warm in the restaurant. Was like sitting in an oven.
We went to the bird for our first date and then again for our 1 year anniversary. It was even better than before! Great service and great food!
Great service and tasty comfort food. Had the chicken and waffles for the second time and I think I've found my favorite.
Alex our server was great. Let that be loud and clear. What the real issue was is that the evening before my reservation a gentleman (he didn’t say his name) from The Bird called to confirm the reservation and ask if there was any special accommodations. I said yes because my niece is picky and if they could make a pancake or French toast bad he said, “We can certainly do something for her.” I was thrilled. When we got to the restaurant, the second server, a black woman with blond curls, down right told me they would not make the pancake or French toast. She didn’t even go and ask. I told her it would be accommodated based on the conversation the night prior and she still said no. She then left and went to tell the host who came up and said, “we don’t have room to make a pancake!” I was beyond insulted and shocked. Seriously, we were not asking for something out of the ordinary. So, I asked her to find out who I talked to and she said she would. Needless to say, she never came back with the person I spoke to. Rather, she and the female server stood in the corner and poked fun/laughed at the request because 4 people heard them at the end of the table and little does she know, the person on the side of me can read lips and she said, “he’s not getting the pancake but he’s so insistent” and they laughed! At this point I had enough and asked them if there was a problem and if there was there was going to be a bigger problem if they kept making comments. We placed our orders and sure enough a pancake was made. I was having a conversation with people at the far end of the table, totally unrelated to what happened, when this angry “lead server” came over to our table and asked if there was a problem and I explained the scenario and he said he understood but “I will not tolerate you talking about my staff like that. It was rude and disrespectful.” When asked what I said, he couldn’t repeat anything because We didn’t say anything except how they didn’t want to accommodate us
Very Nice spot in D.C. that I would recommend to anyone. Their Fried Chicken and Waffle is one of the best I've ever had.
I personally did not like the food. I thought it was too expensive for what I was served. However, the server was excellent and the atmosphere was great.
After hearing good things about the Bird, a friend and I decided to try it. We made a reservation but due to no fault of the restaurant (they had a table of very slow guests), we were kept waiting for a while. The restaurant went above and beyond to make it up to us with a complimentary charcuterie board and a cocktail each, which was lovely but not necessary. I give them A+ for service. However, the food was mediocre. We had the chicken wings, the duck and beef burger, and the fried chicken entree. None blew us away. I may try it again, just to make sure it wasn't an off night, since so many people have said good things, but based on our first time, my friend and I are not dying to go back. I always hope a neighborhood restaurant succeeds, so I am rooting for them to tweak the food!
Great spot just wish their were more gluten free options. Bloody Mary was terrific.
The food was good but nothing special. Beer selection was very limited. We were seated at a table for two directly next to the stairs so it felt as though we were in everyone’s way.
This was the second time I booked a reservation with The Bird and they seated us at least a half hour after our reservation time.
The first time we waited over 45 minutes for our table and they ended up accommodating us for the inconvenience however, the second they did not.
I would not be inclined to book here again or refer anyone to either.
The food was very tasty, but the place was very loud.
I enjoyed the tender, tasty Amish half chicken. Just great.
Great for a gathering!
Lovely bird-themed meal in Mt Vernon residential section of DC, short walk from Morrison-Clark hotel. Indian style Duck meatball appetizer was inventive and delicious. Really enjoyed the schnitzel and spaetzel dish. If in the neighborhood, definitely worth checking out. Nice wine list
Went here for the first time last Sunday and it was amazing. The restaurant is small, so definitely have a reservation but the food was super tasty and the inside was super cute.
Such a cute little place. Not big on space but big on flavor. I’m so glad I came to visit. Brunch was amazing. I couldn’t choose just one item so I picked 3. Try it and you’ll love it!
Dinner was wonderful! We each tried one of their house cocktails. I had the last tweet and my friend had the mule on the roost, both were great but hers came in a fun parrot glass. For apps we had the butternut squash hummus and then for dinner we had the buttermilk fried chicken and duck confit. We ate every last bit! I would highly recommend a visit here if you haven't been! Thank you for a great dinner and good service (shoutout to Asia for her great menu recommendations!)
Girlfriend and I went for brunch. Waited a few minutes for my table at the bar. The bartender was very nice. Once seated, I ended up ordering the chicken and waffles. They were amazing. The brussel sprouts, not so m. Service at the table was a little slow but I would return.
The service was excellent. The wine was great. I didn't feel that the food was adequately seasoned. For example, our wings had great flavor on the coating but the meat of the chicken was bland. It was a shame because everything else - including the location - was great.
Great casual dining food was delicious good wine selection as well
Southern cooking at its best in the Northeast !!! Thanks for a wonderful time. Great staff !
I went to brunch with a couple friends and a baby. Service was friendly, particularly about getting our group set up with a high chair and explained the menu well, but our check was mixed up with the adjacent table at the end of the meal and overall things just seemed a little hectic. There were some weird issues with table extras: when we ordered coffee, the server didn't bring sweetener until we asked and she grabbed a container off the adjacent table. Same with salt and pepper, there wasn't any at our table and they brought it from another table when we asked. The food was ok, I had an omelette that hadn't been described as containing broccoli in the menu but half the filling was broccoli upon receipt. My husband's fried chicken benedict was also decent but a bit bland.
