We were very disappointed with The Bird. We had the recommended buttermilk fried chicken. It was tasteless. The sides were also bland. Our friends had the Amish chicken, which was little better. Much better Chicken in DC at Nando
The staff are very welcoming and attentive. It is a relatively young crowd (30’s) and there is a pleasant neighborhood vibe. Food is so-so, chicken over cooked and over-sauced. With better cooking and lighter use of more interesting sauces this could be a good restaurant.
Delicious food. Very accommodating and kind staff. The bartender was serving the entire downstairs, so service leaned towards the slow side
The food was good, but it took forever to come. Like over and hour from when we ordered to when we got food. They were very nice about it though and comped our bottle of wine.
Absolutely abysmal. Birthday celebration for my husband was ruined by terrible food and service. Kitchen and staff could not handle the rush at 9 pm. Duck was completely overcooked - like jerky. Soup tasted like Pepto bismol. Server was condescending and dismissive. Never again.
The Bird was a great find. Everything is either a bird or from a bird. Great food, great service and a small quirky atmosphere. Also good wines at reasonable prices.
We had Chef Ryan Hackney’s Cherry Blossom Tasting Menu with drink pairings which was outstanding. Although the foie gras and the Oyaku-Don were to die for, the entire menu was absolutely lovely. We sat under the colorful parasols indoors which was so nice. Chef Ryan personally talked to us and told us about some of the dishes - such a talented and delightful young man. We have to go back now because we saw and took in the delicious aroma of several orders of the chicken on a waffle, and we cannot stop thinking about it. Thank you for the lovely evening and birthday celebration!
It was wonderful, great service and beautiful decor.
The Bird is located in the Shaw area which seems to be up and coming. They have a roof top area as well as a street level patio. The food is really good and creative. Service couldn’t have been better. All in all a great place to seek out - especially on a balmy evening! You won’t be alone, so make reservations! (On that note we were running late and needed to arrive an hour after our reservation. They could not have been more accommodating!)
Food was OK but did not meet my very high expectations.
We use to love the food here. Food quality and taste has drastically gone down. HEALTH alert: The waiter was petting the dog that was in the patio and then serving food without washing his hands.
Loved everything about this place! Food and service were excellent!
We had brunch with our 4-year-old twins last Sunday. It was a really solid experience all around. Great food. Great staff. I highly recommend!
Waited 15 minutes for a waiter service; we asked twice until we got service; was not so busy, too. Not a lot of options for a late lunch/early dinner. Some funky food items, like quail eggs and alike. Food was good not not great. 4 people, 5 drinks, 4 entrees: $175 included with the tip.
We were out of town visitors for the Cherry Blossom Festival. My daughter found this gem on the internet. Based on the menu & the pictures, it looked like a place we would like to try. I am so glad we did. The atmosphere is wonderful. The service was great, but since they were quite busy it did get a little slow at times. The food was amazing! We tried the Egg Flight, the Duck Meatballs, the Duck & Angus Burger & the Apple Frangipane. All were wonderful & I would highly recommend. The only negative that I have to say about the place is that since it is in a residential neighborhood, parking is difficult at best. It took us over 1/2 to find parking.
Terrific food - we had an excellent experience. Definitely a repeat!
We couldn't resist trying the buttermilk fried chicken and glad we did. Delicious, well-presented with just the right amount of sides. Excellent, warm service from the moment we stepped in.
Great experience! My friend and I went for dinner and couldn't have had a better time. My wings were nice and crispy with a wonderfully sweet/ spicy sauce and my friend's soup was silly smooth. She is vegetarian and they accommodate her with a beautiful veggie dish. My Bangkok chicken was amazing! I swear I didn't need teeth to eat that bird. The desserts were delicious, the chocolate was so smooth. James was our server; he was friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. Thank you for a wonderful dinner. I can't wait to come back!
Quirky decor and an emphasis on chicken dishes. Both our entrees, buttermilk fried chicken and Bangkok chicken were delicious. The "problem" with the duck meatballs appetizer is that there were only two, they should do 3 or 4. We were only a handful of diners at 6...the place was packed at 7:30.
Our initial Server was inattentive. It was Easter, so we gave the staff some slack. I ordered a drink from the special brunch menu, but my companion waited another 10 minutes to be provided a wine list...then another 10 minutes to receive the beverage. The Server did not check in with us or comment when the food was late. When I flagged down the Manager to question the status of our meal, he was not very helpful and there were no apology. (By this time, there was no 'crowd'.) Through observation, we figured out a shift change must have occurred. The second server was attentive and professional. The food quality was very good. Hopefully this was an off day, but the lack of follow-through from Management was notable in a bad way.
Booked The Bird for a 9 person family Easter Brunch. The food (just about everyone ordered the chicken and waffles) was fantastic as expected. I had called the restaurant earlier in the day and asked if I could drop some flowers off ahead of the reservation for them to hold. When we arrived at our great table complete with a lazy susan and a bay window, the flowers were all nicely arranged on the table. Really appreciate that they were accommodating of our large group. Love the Bird, just dont tell them that it is the word, they will be upset with you.
Brunch at The Bird was pretty fantastic. I’m generally a breakfast food brunch eater- but a duck burger with Foie Gras? Hell yes! So good. Great brunch cocktails as well.
Awesome, fresh, delicious food, takes reservations, good service, and nice ambiance. Chicken wings are some of the best I've ever had.
really a wonderful experience. vy vy friendly atmosphere and a diversity of patrons.
Service was good and timely. It is a neighborhood restaurant with zone parking so early dining is not recommended. I decided to try The Bird based on its rating. I highly recommended Duck Meatballs was disappointing in that the actual meatball lacked in flavor. I did not enjoy the side of Brussel sprouts. The main course, Bangkok Barbeque Chicken was tasty.
We expected more based on the reviews. We found the food to generally be OK but heavily seasoned and sometimes over cooked. Some dishes were tasty and better than others. The atmosphere is cool fun and eclectic. Unfortunately our server seem to be distracted at times .
Waited a bit past our reservation time but they treated us to a complimentary appetizer to make up for it. Great food overall.
Food was excellent. I had the Fried Chicken and it was the best I have ever had at a restaurant. My husband had the Bangkok chicken and found it superb. Our waiter was friendly, very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list. All in all a very, very good meal. We would definitely eat there again!
The Bird was great! The fried chicken was really good, as well as the fried duck egg. I enjoyed their cocktails too.
The Bird was a great dining out experience! The place is very cozy and welcoming. The host treated us quite well and gave us a bit of special treatment. The food was very good. I will definitely return and would recommend highly to others; it was a great discovery and a nice alternative to the usual 14th St options.
Fun atmosphere and good food make for a great combination!
Loved the restaurant...the deco, the food, the service! The noise level was high, but the rest of it made it worth it. Best chicken wings I ever had!!!
Food was delicious, our server was a bit disorganized but we definitely enjoyed our meal!
This place has the ambiance to take you to another world (maybe the places that birds inhabit) and the food was also amazing. I only wish it were warmer so that we could have sat outside on the second floor terrace. This place is one of a kind. So glad Yelp recommended it as one of the top 10 places to eat in D.C.
Food was great. Service was great. Music selection was poor, not really suitable for dinner.
The very attentive wait staff did everything possible to deliver an outstanding dining experience!
The ambience is nice; great space and friendly staff. The food was underwhelming. We ordered several items off the menu and shared amongst three people. We all felt the food was just ok. The wings, in particular, looked appealing but were a bit dry, over fried, and the sauce was nothing memorable. Great option if you live in the neighborhood, but certainly wouldn’t make a trip out of my way.
Great food and fun atmosphere. However, we were seated 45 minutes after our reservation time. The host and waitress were great and comped our appetizers as a result, but 45 minutes is a long wait regardless.
We made a reservation because I have learned that it never hurts to make a reservation in DC. We arrived on a tuesday and we were told that there was a party of 30 that had just arrived and it might be a little loud. We were seated right away and there wasn't a delay in anything that evening even with the place completely full! Great food! Fun decor! Will come again
The food was excellent, cool atmosphere, and the chef and bartender were super friendly. I had the Bangkok BBQ - the sauce on this dish... 😍
