The Bermondsey Yard Cafe is a new dining concept situated at the heart of energetic and vibrant Bermondsey Street, SE1. This exciting and totally unique bar/restaurant is set in a disused car park which has been stripped back to its original industrial design features, exposing all its raw materials, contrasted against reclaimed furniture and cool lighting, creating a flexible space for work and play.
Bermondsey Yard Cafe serves an all day brunch / lunch menu and an a la carte menu in the evening. Our outside beer tent dishes up a choice of thin and crispy stone baked pizzas and a sizzling BBQ menu.

I have been to the Bermondsey Yard Cafe a few times for drinks and have really enjoyed the atmosphere. So I decided to book dinner for me and 5 colleagues in the restaurant, unfortunately we were very disappointed.
After being seated we waited almost 30 minutes before receiving menus, bare in mind it was not busy with maybe three other tables there at the time. The waiter who brought our menus seemed put out by the fact we had asked for them in the first place.
Again we had to prompt him to come back another 30 minutes later for our drinks order and when we tried to order food at the same time he told us we couldn't as the system would crash. He came back 10 minutes later to take our food order, after being there for over an hour we were pretty hungry so asked for the bread we had ordered to come out as soon as possible to tide us over.
Another 30 minutes later we were still waiting, we called a waiter over and asked what the hold up was and he stated that our order had broken the system so there were some delays. We wouldn't have minded as much if we had be informed or updated, they did not seem very apologetic at all.
When our food finally came 5 of us were quite pleased however my vegetarian friend received a salad that had half of the ingredients in it that it should have. We pointed this out to the manager who told us that all the ingredients were there but just cut up really small, which was not the case, again she did not seem impressed by us.
Needless to say we did not pay the service charge, in most restaurants they would want to know why but the staff seemed annoyed and didn't really seem to care.
Such a shame for a place that could be really lovely.
Food was to a good standard but was really disappointed with how long it took for the food to come out, the restaurant wasn't particularly busy and my there was only 2 of us dining.
Service was very slow; staff didn’t notice waiting customers. Food was not worth what we paid
Great venue and very good Sunday lunch, but otherwise the food lets down a good experience.
I had a very bland risotto. Half of the beer menu was out of stock. Very disappointing.
Nice place with a lot of potential and good food, however service is slow and inconsistent.
Very disappointing. My first visit wasn’t great but decided to give another chance. This was much worse. Steaks were good. Pie was at best average, with little flavour and a very thin pie crust lid only (that’s not a pie!!!). 25% of main courses not available. But this is a pub...but they had only lager on tap, ALL the IPAs, stout etc was NOT available. And there was one IPA in a can!!! Seriously? A very poor evening - simply won’t go back and can’t recommend - sorry and embarrassing for servers. Yes I complained - no action as a result - very poor customer focus in my view
Nice laid-back venue for brunch - portions are rather small (especially the single tiny pancake!) - Delicious loose-leaf tea
Worst food I ever had in Bermondsey Street. Part of the burger bun was missing and burned. The burger cold. Pie of the day (mushroom) terrible. Steak was ok.
Service was ok.
A place where to go for a drink but certainly not to eat.
Thank you to all the team that helped with a last minute large booking.
The menu was varied, food was made with quality ingredients and very, very tasty. A great place for a family meet-up.
Disastrous evening. The staff and waitress were having a meltdown and in the end we left without having any food after waiting for ages.
The place was loud, miserable and poorly run. Won't be going back.
Badly managed which meant poor service and some food didn’t have the proper ingredients. Pretty expensive for the experience. Wouldn’t recommend.
Nice atmosphere, good quality food although had to wait a while before starters arrived. Good fun place.
Enjoyable brunch. Good food, friendly service and great atmosphere. Wine rather expensive.
Great food. Lovely atmosphere and a good place for various social catch-ups.
Usually great service but this time understaffed on a busy Sunday lunchtime which meant very long waiting (not too fussy here but was a bit much).
Food and service was excellent but the wine list was terrible. Over priced and unimpressive reds. Shame as everything else was excellent.
Very buzzy restaurant, excellent Sunday roast and would definitely go again. Service was prompt. Only negative was that the restaurant was quiet cold there on Sunday, could do with better heating.
Extremely poor service, bland and overpriced food, noisy venue with horrible toilets. There's really nothing nice to say about this place! We needed a lunch spot for four adults and a toddler on a weekend so booked this, but won't ever return - I suggest you avoid at all costs or prepared to be left disappointed and still hungry.
Enjoyed catch up lunch with a girlfriend. Good food. Slow service.
We had a table by the windows on a cold day and there was an icy draught coming through the old windows. We asked to be moved or borrow someone’s coat or have a blanket and each time the reaction was as if we had made a really strange request and was ignored.
I asked if they would consider buying some inexpensive blanket fleeces for that table for future customers and was met with derision.
Great place but sit in the middle or take your own blanket or go in the summer!
Great to be able to make reservations. The food was good but it took a bit longer than expected and we were sat at the back so difficult to see us.
Delicious food, good portions, good vibe. Friendly staff.
Had a great time here with a group of friends who were visiting London. They loved it too, thought it was a great find and great buzzy atmosphere. The food was delicious and the mac & cheese is a MUST try!
My boyfriend and I went there for our Valentine's day dinner and loved it! The atmosphere was lovely and food amazing. It felt like we were at the First Dates restaurant. It's not cheap but relatively average for London and totally worth it! We would love to go back.
Poor service, had to ask three times for our drinks, they sent out poached eggs that had been cooked for around 5 minutes too long and there was no cutlery on the table!
Great place, good food, but the music was too loud.
Great food and good value for money! Very busy on a Saturday/Sunday so service can be slow but worth it! Would say not to order the English breakfast as for the price it is very small... but the salmon and avocado on sourdough is amazing!
The food was very expensive, given what was provided. £26 for a piece of steak and a small bowl of chips isn’t right.
I had booked a table but we had to wait 20min to be seated. Service was slow and poor- no one appologised for the late seating, coffees were spilled and drinks orders were brought wrong. Over priced for quality.
Food was really good. Great atmosphere. We had a super time.
The menu is limited and if you’re a vegetarian then it definitely isn’t the place for you.
The food was passable but nothing to write home about or to seek out.
There was only one choice of red wine (the most expensive on the list) as the wine order hadn’t been delivered.
I wouldn’t return in a hurry.
Had a lovely relaxed time here and the staff were friendly and accommodating when we arrived slightly behind schedule. Thanks
Food was slow and luke warm. Restaurant was busy but staff seemed pretty overwhelmed. I’ve has good experiences here before but this was disappointing.
Very nice evening with good service a food
Service was terrible and sadly it ruined our experience. Food not too bad but would not recommend or return.
Would loved to have tried the food, but booked online for an evening when they closed for a Christmas event. This was not clear on the booking form, and while we were offered pizza in the back yard (the person I was dining with hates pizza) we had to go elsewhere. Would have been good to know this in advance before we travelled. The restaurant did apologise, but that is not really enough when you turn up for a table that does not exist!
I am unable to write a review of Bermondsey Yard Cafe because OpenTable cocked up the booking and when we arrived a table had not been reserved for us. Since the Cafe was full we had to eat elsewhere. To compound the cock-up Bermondsey Yard Cafe failed to realise that OpenTable had not reserved a table for me when I phoned them and asked to add another person to the booking, which they duly did despite no table having been reserved for us. I shall not be visiting Bermonsey Yard Cafe again and I shall never book a restaurant through OpenTable again.
Kids options would be a great addition to menu mind they loved the Macaroni Cheese. Great birthday had be all.
Underwhelmed by this restaurant though recommended by Timeout. Meals are small portions and very overpriced - we had to ask for more garnish and gravy as it disappeared immediately! We were also rushed off our table by a fairly aggressive member of staff, though we were still 15 mins off our allocated 2 hour dinner slot. Overall, decor great but everything else pretentious.
Very disappointed with the service! Went there with a few of my colleagues and some clients and the way we have been treated was awful. I booked a table for 2 hours and when we arrived straight away they have informed us that we will only have the table if we are ordering food as well. (The lady didn't even say hello when we arrived). We said that we prefer having nibbles and drinks and she said it's fine as long as we are not going to be at the table for more than 2 hours. The whole time we were there we had to go and ask for someone to come and serve us and when we asked to have some nibbles we were at first refused as apparently we had to have a proper meal. Then one of my colleague asked if we can have pizza and the answer was " We ran out of pizza yesterday and even if we had them we wouldn't serve you inside". The staff was literally watching us constantly like we were intruding...I have never felt so uncomfortable (and my colleagues felt the same).
Obviously, never going back there ever again but I just wanted to highlight what an awful service they have there.
We work in hospitality as well and we don't agree with the statement that the "client is always right" but they did completely the opposite.
