We grabbed lunch for a coworker’s last day and the staff was super accommodating. We were a party of 10 coming from work, the staff was really understanding and patient with us. The food was amazing and the service was even better.
We requested a booth after requesting one last time and didn’t get it again. No one even tried to help us.
The service was slow and they did not have enough waiters. Also it was very noisy. Food was fine. Wish we had gone to a different restaurant.
The Berghoff Restaurant is a good value as always for a business lunch in the Loop area. Not too formal, and not too casual either, it is just the right environment for taking business colleagues or associates to lunch. The food is very good, classic European/German fare.
The Berghoff had a great selection of German entrees and other dishes to try as well as a decent beer menu. Our service was attentive and fast. I was only slightly disappointed with the portion sizes for the cost, but overall a very good experience.
Delicious food in generous portions. Friend had a variety of traditional selections and I had the delicious beef sandwich with savory au jus. Lunchtime noise level waned after 2:00. Definitely would return.
We've eaten here several times when we come to Chicago and love it!!
Longstanding, German-centered Chicago restaurant. Business-casual atmosphere and great food make this a good Loop choice for lunch or dinner. More festive around the holidays.
Wonderful, historic place to eat! Always try to eat at The Berghoff, while in Chicago.
Excellent and authentic German food. Lived in Germany and the food is very authentic.
Hostess was horribly rude upon arrival. Otherwise service was great!
Great food. Thanks
The food is the best!
Great service, food, and ambiance! Will definitely return!
The giant pretzel was a big hit! One in our group had the onion-apple soup - he loved it. The two beef entrees were very well liked. However two of our group had wiener schnitzel and to say it was disappointing is an understatement - it was dry and flavorless. The creamed spinach and the spaetzel were bland. Such a shame for such a popular stop for locals and visitors! We might come back but not have what we had.
Second time visiting Berghoff. First time was sixteen years ago. had a great meal and experience then, worried most recent might not live up to my high expectations. Recent visit was just as memorable as the first, food at atmosphere was exceptional. I believe the Adam's street brewery was a more recent addition, great beer. Would highly recommend Berghoff's to everyone
Chicago institution, great food and authentic historic interior
Every trip to Chicago includes a meal at the Berghoff. This time I had the Jäger Schnitzel with Spätzle and I added an order of red cabbage. Food is delicious! I lived in Germany for several years and this is as close to real as it gets!
A fantastic lunch experience! Good German fare, a real treat.
We had a great time. I appreciated the veggie burger and beet salad, but they were the only veggie choices for me and my husband. I think there are many vegetarians out there these days, and it's always great when a restaurant realizes that times are changing with regard to healthy diets. Black bean burger and beet salad were great - thank you!
I had not been to the Berghoff since I moved from Chicago many years ago and it was like catching up with an old friend. Although the ambiance was not quite what I remembered, the food and service exceeded my memories! For an appetizer, I had the mini potato pancakes and my business partner had the stuffed mushrooms. Honestly, I could have eaten three orders of those pancakes and wanted more! They were simply amazing! And the mushrooms were stuffed with the creamed spinach that is a staple at the Berghoff and very tasty! For main course, I had the Wiener Schnitzel and my partner had the Sauerbraten. The sauerbraten was incredibly tender and the flavor was perfect. My schnitzel was prepared perfectly. My partner still had room for dessert and ordered the Black Forest cake which he loved. I took one bite and it was yummy but I was too stuffed to eat any more!
As I am a German guy living and working in Chicago, I was looking for an authentic German restaurant to enjoy some traditional German dishes. Sadly, I was disappointed by the meals. I had the Jägerschnitzel, which didn't taste at all like a Jägerschnitzel. I think there are better options in Chicago..
Excellent food and service!! We had the best Black Forest cake ever. Found out they make all their breads and desserts in house. Our entrees were delicious and huge portions. So glad we found this gem and will definitely return next visit!
You should have “too loud” instead of “energetic” as top noise level. I put energetic - but it was very loud and annoying. Can’t even hear person next to you, let alone across the table from you
Good food good prices great service. I had the Jaeger Schnizel
It was amazing restaurant. The staff was friendly, the beer was great and the food excellent! We had the sauerbraten and the jager schnitzel. It was all fantastic!!
Food was excellent - old favorites were wonderful and non- German items were as well. Definitely worth the trip.
Great food. Bad refills on water. Asked 3 x to the Bus boy. REPEATEDLY. Food fab so will return!!
Food was great, server was hospitable however the food took longer than usual and it was less than half full
Always a must for us when in Chicago! Missed the Corned beef and cabbage on the menu, but was able to deconstruct the sandwich instead. Still the best red cabbage and creamed spinach ever!
Fun evening with good food and good friends
Great food and friendly staff. Easy to get a reservation
Beautiful, historic setting (carved wood, murals, stained glass, and inlaid wood panels) with excellent food and microbrew beers. So many places like this have vanished over the years. I would recommend the onion soup with Granny Smith apple and cheese - wonderful appetizer.
Delicious food. We ordered jäger beef, a pork schnitzel and a vegetarian lasagna, and all dishes were exceptionally well prepared. Yummy all around. The restaurant is also surprisingly moderately priced. Highly recommend!
We went for the historic value, but left true fans of the food and service. Try the pork shank, but leave room for the apple strudel! Be sure to stop by the bar (on the end closest to the street) and see liquor license #1 from when prohibition ended.
We’re a German-American family who decided to enjoy some of the foods we grew up with. Very enjoyable.
If you want very traditional German this is the place, historical also. German potato salad and saurkrat spot on. Black Forest cake disappointing, looking for decadent chocolate cake with plump rich cherry filling instead it is layers of yellow, chocolate and lots of whipped cream filling, very little cherry.
Dinner before concert - delicious as always!
Reception refused to seat us until 2 others arrived. This cold lack of WELCOME is not the European warmth and hospitality experience my guests and I expected!
Excellent German food. If you are in the mood for sausages, schnitzel or sauerkraut, this is the restaurant for you. Some in our party had full entrees and others sandwiches. All were flavorful and satisfying. Their beers were cold and refreshing and the apple strudel was excellent.
