Always a must for us when in Chicago! Missed the Corned beef and cabbage on the menu, but was able to deconstruct the sandwich instead. Still the best red cabbage and creamed spinach ever!
Fun evening with good food and good friends
Great food and friendly staff. Easy to get a reservation
Beautiful, historic setting (carved wood, murals, stained glass, and inlaid wood panels) with excellent food and microbrew beers. So many places like this have vanished over the years. I would recommend the onion soup with Granny Smith apple and cheese - wonderful appetizer.
Delicious food. We ordered jäger beef, a pork schnitzel and a vegetarian lasagna, and all dishes were exceptionally well prepared. Yummy all around. The restaurant is also surprisingly moderately priced. Highly recommend!
We went for the historic value, but left true fans of the food and service. Try the pork shank, but leave room for the apple strudel! Be sure to stop by the bar (on the end closest to the street) and see liquor license #1 from when prohibition ended.
We’re a German-American family who decided to enjoy some of the foods we grew up with. Very enjoyable.
If you want very traditional German this is the place, historical also. German potato salad and saurkrat spot on. Black Forest cake disappointing, looking for decadent chocolate cake with plump rich cherry filling instead it is layers of yellow, chocolate and lots of whipped cream filling, very little cherry.
Dinner before concert - delicious as always!
Reception refused to seat us until 2 others arrived. This cold lack of WELCOME is not the European warmth and hospitality experience my guests and I expected!
Excellent German food. If you are in the mood for sausages, schnitzel or sauerkraut, this is the restaurant for you. Some in our party had full entrees and others sandwiches. All were flavorful and satisfying. Their beers were cold and refreshing and the apple strudel was excellent.
Good food but terrible service. There were a lot of choices and it was hard to decide. The sausage appetizer was very small for the price.
This is an old restaurant with delicious food, particularly German dishes and beer. Recently they installed a brewery in the middle for patrons to look at. Fun place. Can get very noisy.
Waiter inattentive but good food ;
I had the batter fried cod. The pieces of cod were disappointingly small in comparison to the batter.
Our server Deborah was awesome. The food was fantastic as always. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. My vegan daughter was able to find delicious offerings. This place is iconic for a reason.
It was exactly as I remember it from 10 years ago. It was a good visit with good food, service and price point.
Good food and excellent location. Definitely would like to return!
Server forgot about my daughter's meal. she had to wait 15 minutes more while the rest of us ate. Otherwise the service was just OK. I preferred the surly waiters of the old days. Their service was at least always spot on.
Good food for the visiting relatives who don't have stuff like this at home. Our server was excellent to the kids we had in the group. I'll go back on my own for a good dinner soon.
We had a reservation and were seated immediately. We love German food, and since we were only in Chicago to see Hamilton, we wanted a nice dinner beforehand...the Berghoff delivered. We had the Wienerschnitzel, beef medallions, and Jager schnitzel. Delicious! The service was top notch also.
Decent but too tourist-y. Really rushed
This restaurant is a major disappointment. Do not go here if you are hoping for an experience. They bring out your food in 5 minutes or less, and it is clearly prepared ahead of time and waiting in a warmer. The food was dry, bland and did not seem fresh. Also, it was completely over priced. I definitely do not recommend this place!
The server was EXCELLENT and the food was OUTSTANDING. I will recommend to all my family and friends to dine at this location. This was a WONDERFUL DINiNG EXPERIENCE!!!!!
Service was impeccable! Menu looks great but food quality was disappointing. Decor is outdated.
The food was delicious and I would definitely go again. If there had to be a negative, it was our waitress. She was very efficient, but was absolutely not friendly, at all..never smiled. Otherwise, it was great!!
Courteous service and good food in a unique Chicago restaurant provided a pleasurable lunch experience .
Good food. Nice service. Unfortunately no wifi
Wonderful atmosphere and great service. The food was delicious and not much wait time.
The hostess brought me to a table in the middle of the restaurant. when I asked for a table off to the side, she said no, the server wasn't there yet in that area. Apparently that didn't matter, because no one came to the table I was forced to sit at for 15 minutes anyway.
Otherwise, the place was fine.
I had not previously had the Jager schnitzel, it was excellent. My wife went with the chicken cordon blue , also very good. Can’t beat apple strudel for dessert. Service was solid.
Great old classic place. I hope it is around forever.
My wife was an infant when she first dined here. We go back almost every time we find ourselves in Chicago.
Excellent food, outstanding service. This has become our go-to restaurant for lunch or dinner!
We loved the food and the fast service! A wonderful experience overall!
I've always enjoyed Berghoff's . Friday night the service was particularly good as we had Syphony tickets and our dinner was served promptly and courteously.
We had a great experience at The Berghoff. We had out of town family with us and thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere. It is still a blast from the past in Chicago and a fun place to dine or drink!! Can't wait to go back.
A timeless classic, always great German food, beer and ambiance!
It was fun to eat at The Berghoff as I did many years ago. It's not the same restaurant it once was, but it was pleasant, the food was good, and the beer was delicious. The Bavarian pretzel was the highlight of our meal.
We had a table of seven. Server was attentive. Food served at the proper temperature. Dishes removed from the table on a timely basis.
We had a wonderful experience with our 91 year old Uncle. A special treat for all.
