I was in town for business and found the Belvedere restaurant via my OpenTable App. The menu looked very good and that's what drew me to this location. The restaurant is located inside the Padre Hotel and there's nothing fancy about the place. It appears the hotel simply converted one of their large rooms into a table and chair restaurant, there's nothing fancy about this place and definitely no ambiance to speak of! But the food is very good and so is the wine, that's about it!
The Belvedere is very hit or miss on whether it’s good or not. On this occasion our server was very nice and attentive but the kitchen was slow. It took a long time for us to get our appetizers as well as our meal (we were there for 2 hours for a party of 3) and the restaurant wasn’t even full. The food was okay, but there was too much pepper on everything. The best dish we had was the elk, the worst was the lobster mac and cheese...and I love Mac and cheese. I can’t say that anything was terrible but for the price you pay my expectations are higher.
Outstanding dinner Saturday night with friends. Service was the best we've had in Bakersfield and on par with fine dining in a major city. Food was prepared perfectly. We were not rushed through our meal, they did a great job uncorking our wine and decanting it, and it made for a very special evening. We had a wonderful evening.
So sorry I have to say it was a terrible experience. And in spite of the restaurant we still had a great time. It was my birthday and my daughter was meeting the man I love for the first time. The A/C Unit was out in restaurant. The food was mediocre at best. But the cocktails we great! No chocolate cake for my birthday because they were out! We were a sweaty mess and they offered ice once in the three hours we were there. Service was not up to par of what i expected from a fine dining establishment. Highly doubt if any of us will return. Our bill was well over $300. My boyfriend talked to Mario the manager and he reduced the bill by 25% because of the fiasco of a night. But I'm still Not impressed.
Very good food and great venue, service was okay, waitress was a little bit to familiar and made some mistakes.
Forgot to bring wine cooler for our not cheap champagne, we had to ask for it again, when she explained the food on the charcuterie plate she touched the plate while doing so and she asked to many personal questions.
We ordered the chicken with the INCREDIBLE red sauce wish I could remember the name it was UNREAL EXCELLENT!!!!! The meal took too long to get served but TOTALLY worth the wait it was very delicious. Orlando the waiter was a complete sweetheart he was both very professional and extremely pleasant. He kept checking on us (also due to the wait of our meal) and that was a major PLUS. The restaurant was beautiful very elegant and cozy DONT CHANGE A THING. I live in the San Fernando Valley a friend lives in Maricopa we met 1/2 way to have a girl getaway and we truly enjoyed ourselves. Bakersfield has a MAJOR GEM Your Restaurant and The Padre overall and it will always be recommended from my end NO DOUBT !!!! My friend plans on coming back with her husband for a mini getaway for them. Georgette Shugarts is her name and Im sure her husband will love it. My name is Brita Gorman and you get a 5 star rating.
The restaurant is very convenient for our out of town business partners. The menu is great. The sides are great. On several occasions the service has been slow. We had to tell our waiter twice that we where ready to order. The waiter was very good, he asked if we had questions about the menu. The service is just slow.
We went here after a movie. The restaurant was about 1/2 full. Our waiter was excellent. The drinks arrived promptly, as did our salads. The entrees took quite a while...the kitchen, not our waiter.
The portions were adequate, but if you were sharing were small.
We made a dinner reservation at the Belvedere Room for my Boyfriends birthday. We were running late and they accomadated our tardiness kindly & courteously. Our Server was awesome, very personable & attentive, I believe his name was Mike. The food... the food was AMAZING. We had the Wagyu which we had split and I still took some home! Honestly it was the best steak I think I've ever had. All in all our experience was outstanding, we will definitely be doing more dining here.
In a beautiful old renovated hotel, the table service in the bar area was just so so, but very friendly. Then had dinner in the Belvedere Room. Very pretty dining room, not too loud, very good food. Highly recommend the duck and the lobster mac and cheese. We started with a cheese and fruit plate which was also wonderful. The service was outstanding. Our waiter Justin was perfect, very attentive without being intrusive. I would definitely go back.
Due to a family illness, I had to quickly come up with a Plan B as our trip to LA for my wife's birthday was not in the cards. We've been to the Belvedere Room before and had enjoyed it. It doesn't feel like a hotel restaurant. The menu is diverse and imaginative. The real surprise came on the wine list. They have many of the "usual suspects" but we were thrilled to find a 2012 Dunn Vineyards Howell Mountain cab. We had a small issue with a dessert item but it was quickly and professionally taken care of.
The Padre Hotel is probably the coolest spot in Bakersfield and the Belvedere Room holds up its end of the bargain.
I would have loved to give this place an excellent review because the food was perfect. They were even able to accommodate us needing dairy-free options. The service, however, was so horrible that it ruined the entire experience. We waited 15 minutes before even being brought waters. We were then told they were bringing bread, which never showed up. We then waited another 20 minutes for our first round of cocktails. We had to ask 2 more times for bread before finally having it brought out after our meal had already arrived. Our server was unapologetic and seemed to act like this was completely normal. It would have been a little more understandable had the restaurant been busy but there were very few other tables occupied. They were also out of 3 entree items on the menu and then out of one of the alcohols we wanted to order in our cocktails. I hope that they can determine how better to stay stocked to be able to offer all items on the menu. Great food, I hope they can work on the service and this could be one of my favorites spots to visit when I'm home.
The food was great, the service was good, but the drinks came out very slow. It was a hot day and there were also a few flies that were around our food and our table. Not sure how they can fix that problem. Overall though, I would say we had a very good meal.
Took my parents visiting me for a Father's Day dinner. The food was delicious. Everything we ordered was very good. This room is very quiet though so if you and your group make a little extra noise, it may be better to go to the Brimstone room also in the Padre Hotel. Overall, will recommend to others.
Dysfunctional, When reviewing the wine list, our waiter offered that there were a number of great wines at half price not on the list due to them being in limited supply and no longer on their list. I had asked about two Spanish Reservas on their list, and he had little wine knowledge. So I said sure, bring a few of the special wines. So the waiter returns with the two Spanish Reservas? I ask about the special wines and he says the manager is not available. I chose one of the wines and he opens it and sets it on our table. He asks if we're ready? We place our entree and starter orders and he leaves the table. I guess we need to pour our own wine?? So in 10 minutes he's back and tells us they have no Lobster Bisque? This is a house specialty? They just didn't bother to make it tonight?? Sad experience. The rest of our meal and food was fine. Disappointing!!
The food? CRIMINAL. One of the best steaks I have ever had. The atmosphere and the style were perfection. Truly, we'd be back over and over if we lived in the area. Sadly, we were just passing through and took the chance based on a very reliable word-of-mouth recommendation. Grateful that we committed to THE PADRE VIBE. Bravo to all. Marvelous culinary adventure.
Very nice place with a great atmosphere. The historic elements are represented nicely but the restaurant has a wonderful mix between old and new. The service staff are very accommodating, but need some more training on 5 star table service. Expected us to move our own plates when a 5 star takes care of the table maze. The wine list was good but limited and pricey. I had a Grand Cru Bordeaux from St Emilion so take that into consideration. I gave less than five stars because they were out of Filet on Mother's Day. And that is my Mother's favorite. Blasphemy! Other than that one of the better upscale places to dine in Bakersfield. I would visit again and recommend to others.
I am not sure where to start with my experience here. We arrived at 130pm which was our exact "Mother's Day "reservation time. The hostess then asked us to wait at the bar area as they had not prepared our table since we were a large group (9 people). 35minutes later we noticed the manager walk by us and informed him that we had been there for that long waiting to be seated. He then sent another gentleman who aggressively came to us and stated "sorry but we are not going to be able to accommodate you because we have to flip the tables for dinner". Long story short after expressing our displeasure in how we were being unfairly treated, the manager came back and let us know that we would be seated "in 5 minutes" which surprisingly happened. Needless to say we got an overly enthusiastic waiter (obviously over compensating) but he was nice. Manager then came after our meal and while he thought this was a good gesture offered us a "small discount for the trouble". It was insulting- I would much rather pay full price for a more pleasant experience. Please do better!
We had reservations, but didn't actually eat in the Belvadere - we were seated in Brimstone Bar. Didn't realize only option was the buffet for $40/plate. Not sure there's a buffet anywhere worth that price. Would have preferred a nice steak off the menu. Won't go for Mother's Day again, but will go back.
Excellent menu and value for great food although some may find it pricey. Food was absolutely delish, side dishes were
plentiful and enough for two people as was the cesar salad. Staff was very attentive but did seem distracted at times. Would most definitely go there again.
Was traveling through the Bakersfield area and spent the night at the Padre Hotel. The Belvedere Room had an excellent menu and was surprisingly creative for a hotel venue. Especially nice vegetable side dishes. More than just a typical steakhouse. Service was also very attentive.
