About Permanently Closed - The Bedford
This restaurant is permanently closed. Inspired by the Supper Club experience of a bygone era, The Bedford puts a modern-day twist on the concept by offering more than just a restaurant. Underground but not exclusive, this Wicker Park outpost offers a full nightlife experience without the formality. Come into the reclaimed landmark bank for a drink or small bite, and end up staying for a full meal, music and more. Sip on one of our signature cocktails in the one-of-a-kind lounge in a former bank vault; experience our boutique wine, beer and spirits selection at the bustling bar; or enjoy our celebrated cuisine in the intimate dining room. Stick around after dinner and you just might find yourself ready to mingle, enjoy some tunes and the company of an old (or new) friend. You could go somewhere else, but why would you want to? The Bedford is an affordable luxury right in the heart of Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood.
Experience it for yourself.

The Bedford - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
The food was outstanding, from the beef tartare and the cauliflower fritters, to the diver scallops and the duck confit cassoulet. The flavors worked well together and there was a great deal of care put into each of our dishes.
Service was top-notch. We never waited long for anything, and every person with whom we spoke was friendly, inviting, and made us feel comfortable.
Lastly, were the cocktails. My wife's favorite is a pisco sour and it did not disappoint. We would recommend this spot for a fun night out, or a romantic dinner for a special occasion. We were there for our anniversary and would go back again, without hesitation.
I took my wife out for her birthday dinner. They treated us so well; they had a nice cozy booth reserved for us and some really lovely extras. The pisco sour was very delicious as was the octopus and the main courses of the scallops and the tenderloin. The service was attentive but also did a good job of not being too intrusive. Thank you for making this evening so wonderful.
We've been there before and liked it. We brought friends this time. They liked it.
The place is cool with the bank vault right there with you. The food is imaginative and new. Once they got the right order, the drinks were good. The wine list is short and efficient.
Early, the place has moderate sound levels. As the evening goes on, the DJ starts playing quietly, but it gets louder as the evening goes on. It looked like they were clearing the room for dancing.
Went to dinner before the theatre and was running late. They were very nice about it our tardiness and it was appreciated. We were able to order quick and our food came out in a timely manner. I had the baked chicken and it was very moist and tender. My wine was very good. The manager and our waitress checked on us which was very nice. If I had more time I would have ordered more food and wine. I would definitely go back when I have more time. Trendy hot spot.
Plates are very small; even smaller conpared to "small plates" restaurants. The staff lacks prioritizing tasks; more focused on grabbing towels then bringing the check to the customers. Not worth your time. It was a huge disappointment, I mean it was traumatizing. You will leave the place hungry, that's what the bedford guarantees!
This is a great location, like most other restaurants I go for a social evening out to talk with friends and end up fighting with the in house music system! What is it with all these restaurants that they think I want to shout at the top of my voice all night. I don't want to listen to your bloody music!
The ambience was fantastic! Too bad the food didn't mirror up. We started with the cauliflower app. which was essentially fried batter and not much cauliflower. Then for the main course, I had the duck, which was extremely salty (and I'm one to use plenty of salt) to the point where I almost sent it back. My girlfriend had the scallops which were pretty good but the three they provide were extremely undersized- app size. On a positive note, the drinks were fantastic.
Food was undersized and overpriced. Ambience and decor were classy. Hostess was very helpful setting up reservation and water server was both timely and consistent. Good option for a intimate engagement. Definitely would recommend even if my experience wasn't wholly pleasant.
The service was great and the ambiance was wonderful. I truly wanted the food to be enjoyable as well. Unfortunately both my sister and I had a hard time finishing our meal because it was overly salty. It was almost inedible. Luckily the service was so great that our water cup was always full.
Went here on a whim for restaurant week, very creative menu, a nice wine pairing and what a unique venue in an old bank vault! The dining area is separated strategically fromthe bar so talking was easy and we didn't have to tell over the music playing in the other room.
My husband and I went to The Bedford for Restaurant Week. We did the wine pairing with our meal for an extra $17 each, which was a good value. The portions were small but very filling. The only thing I didn't like was that I felt like I had to yell across the table to my husband. It was hard to hear. Other than that, great experience!
Had a nice, impromptu dinner here after a musical. (Only reason we were able to do impromptu was because it was only 6pm.) Vault room is a fun place to sit and get a drink either before or after dinner. Although were early birds on this night, I imagine the vibe picks up quite a bit as the night goes on. Definitely recommend for both food and ambiance - and service was great.
Food is incredible. Everything is delicious--appetizers, mixed drinks, entrees, desserts--yummy! Service was super attentive with one misstep-our waitress charged us for extra desserts which we did not order or receive. So check your receipt really carefully.
