The Bay House Ratings and Reviews
There’s always a “buzz” in the air! People come here to eat well, drink well, and have a good time.
You can choose from the main dining room to the bar area, outside and more.
People who work here are nice! No attitudes, whether you’re asking for a different table or being specific about what you want to eat or drink.
The fried oyster appetiser is a must for oyster lovers!
The food used to be incredible here, but our meal on Valentines Day was sub par. My husband and I split the octopus appetizer, and I had the Charleston Carpet Bagger Steak with Oysters while my husband had the Coastal Pan Roast. The octopus was over charred, served luke warm and fishy tasting. The steak was supposed to be a petite filet, but instead I was served what looked to be two thinly sliced pieces of prime rib that had been over-seared on the flat top. The scallops in my husband's entree were so over-cooked they were nearly crunchy and the rice was under cooked. The place was very busy as it was Valentines Day, and service was very good. It may have just been the kitchen got a little overwhelmed.
Disappointing best describes our dining experience. Our party of three had difficulty caring on a conversation because the dining room was so noisy. Our three separate meals proved disappointing as well. Seafood was tasteless. Sauces, especially mayonnaise based ones were so heavy, they rendered the shrimp tasteless too.
It had been a while since going to the Bay House; it was better than I'd remembered and I'd remembered it as very good. Tables with ample separation so conversation was easy. Service was excellent--prompt, attentive, but not intrusive. Food quality was very good and wines by the glass were good enough to justify their price. It was a wonderful evening and we will return soon!
We were celebrating a significant anniversary and the Bayhouse was recommended as a great seafood option. To say the very least, it did not disappoint. I was pleasantly surprised with our seating which was relatively close to the live music from the bar but was totally peaceful which we had desired. The service was superb and we each thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The complimentary dessert and champagne were a charming surprise. I even more appreciated that it was done with subtlety without silly fanfare. A very sincere class act. If we hadn’t spent so much time eating and conversing we would have loved to stay for the music. We will absolutely be back and share our enjoyable experience with others.
Food was good but didn't appreciate the attitude of the waitress. Had been there 2 years ago and had the same waitress-my steak 2 years ago was raw and she never came and asked how the dinner was-she came when my husband was done and I had only eaten a bite and I said it was not cooked . She asked if I wanted it sent back which I declined as he had finished eating and I didn't want to wait another 20 minutes.
The other night , 3 of us ordered burgers as we had eaten a late lunch and she said "you're ordering bar food"? We were in the main dining area. She then asked, since you are only ordering burgers, do you want the bread service? Very poor attitude on both occasions with this waitress.
We made a reservation and requested outside seating and we were accommodated right away. We were celebrating 2 birthdays. The outside is very nice, with tables on 2 levels. The food was excellent and our server was wonderfully attentive and knowledgeable. We always enjoy our visits to the Bay House.
The BayHiuse is hidden on a bend in a river covered with mangrove forest. The ambiance is delightful with vintage wooden boat hulls hung from the ceiling. At the same time very contemporary. Live music in the bar, lively patio with fire pit and outdoor bar. Stunned by the expansion but very nice. Lots of locally sourced foods and extensive wine list. Service was excellent. A hidden gem that plenty of people know about it seems.
Our second visit within the month and it was just mediocre . In the past the quality of food and the warmth of the food was spot on. Our meals came tepid. The plate my Salmon was on was swimming in oil. Our server was pleasant and helpful. Although when our friend mentioned not having a crouton on her Ceaser salad he merely asked if she was finished, and took her plate away. I would have thought there might be an explanation such as " we don't serve croutons on our Ceaser salads??" Or whatever the reason was..maybe "oops we forgot".
We usually have a fabulous experience at The Bay House. This outing, unfortunately, did not meet our expectations. The restaurant was very busy and we suspect that was the reason for the slow service and overall chaotic feel. This restaurant is beautiful, the service is normally spot on and the food is delicious. However, this time I wasn't as pleased with my meal as I have been in the past. I ordered the Coastal pan roast and it was just too plain. Plain mahi, plain shrimp, scallop was just ok, the crab cake was overly deep fried. My husband's food was ordinary and our family members who dined with us said their salads and meals were fine, but we got the sense that they weren't impressed. We will go back because we love the ambiance and the food. Perhaps they were short of staff or having an off night.
Enjoyed our scenic, peaceful water view while dining on the outside deck. Friendly, helpful service and good food. Especially pleased with the salmon with lemon risotto and lobster. The salmon was moist and perfectly cooked and the risotto was slightly lemony and delicious.
