The Basin Ratings and Reviews
The best service I have ever experienced at a restaurant. I have been to this restaurant before and I was very impressed then, so I was concerned my expectations this time might be too high. The Basin exceeded my high expectations. In addition to the great service, the food was phenomenal. I highly recommend the foie gras. I don't believe it is on the menu, but they always offer it.
This is one of our very favorite restaurants, and a special treat for our daughter and son-in-law when they visit. We get the same dinners most of the time, and look forward to them. I love the duck, and my husband loves the trout. The beet salad was delicious. We were both very happy. The other couple with us enjoyed their meals too. Saratoga is fortunate to have such a wonderful restaurant so handy.
Great restaurant. Including food, ambience, ertc. The only problem we had, which really isn't their fault, was that my wife has problems with things in the onion family, and most of their menu items had them in it in a way that could not be eliminated. So her selections were limited.
We started with appetizers: Taste of Spain (consisted of jamon, chorizo, Mahon cheese and assorted olives which was very good/tasty), Paella Penquena (one of the better Paellas we've had, even when compared to the Paellas in Spain) and a Caesar Salad (dressing was different and very good). For entrees, we had the Forest Pizza (unique sauce and excellent cured ham) and Grilled Argentine (nice tender beef with an excellent marinade). For dessert, the Apple Crostata was excellent served with vanilla bean ice cream. We haven't been to The Basin for quite a while for it is now a "favorite".
We sat for 60 minutes before our waiter took our order. While he did take drink order he walked by numerous times until we finally stopped him. I was there with 4 ladies we shared a bottle and dinner. No dessert. We got there at 7p and left at 9:30! This was due to horrible service.
It was our 30th anniversary. We wanted a nice place to eat that was not too pricey or fancy since we were going to a concert at Mountain winery right after. It was the perfect choice! Great food - we both had the Halibut special. They accommodated my food sensitivities and my husband desire to have different veggies with his meal, all with a smile and attentive service. The setting could use a bit of a refresh, but all in all we loved it and will go back.
We are regular visitors to The Basin. Food is always excellent. I nearly always order the New York steak - it's awesome but huge. Bruno is the best waiter I've seen in a long time. His knowledge of the food and wine is impressive but he's not one of those snooty types who pretends to know more than their guests.
I love The Basin! I have eaten there many times whether it was a date, meeting up with friends or a business meeting. The staff is attentive and friendly and the food is always amazing. It is truly a gem and if you visit Saratoga you'll definitely want to make The Basin your spot for dinner! They have a great selection of food and the specials are always unique and quite delicious - it will be a great night from the moment you walk in the door until you're finished. A must visit!
We had a good experience there for my wife's Birthday. The food overall was good but we were there only last month on a Monday and the food was somewhat better then, not sure why.
My Wife had the same food both days and she is a very good cook and she felt that two different chefs prepared the meals, the first one in April was better.
We bought a white wine and brought two red wines, usually we get charged corkage for one but The Basin charged me for two. Overall it has been good but next time I will check my tab more thoroughly before I leave a tip. I was too generous.
