This is my 2nd visit to the basin. We started with a couple of cocktails, they were refreshing and not too sweet. We had the croquette, that was crispy outside and soft inside. Then we had Caesar salad with Parmesan snow, that was a huge disappointment. A very simple and few romaine lettuce, under dressed, with Parmesan on top. I wouldn't get that salad again.
For our entrée, we had coq au vin and mushroom rigatoni, both were good.
We ordered an apple pie, which was very dry. The ice cream we ordered with it helped.
Over all I enjoyed the dinner at the basin, I guess I was just really disappointed by the Caesar salad because I had high expectations from them.
MacFarland trout and homemade rigatoni with wild mushrooms are fantastic!
The Basin has a diverse and unique end to end menu. Everything was prepared, presented and served well. We especially loved their Paella!
My wife and I had a nice quiet table in the corner on the patio with a burner putting out mild heat to keep the chill away. It was a great experience where we were seated, the food was terrific (appetizer, salad, main course, and dessert), the service was great, and the ambiance was perfect. I would go again.
Had a wonderful dining experience. Jeff, our waiter, was outstanding.
Amazing food and beverages. The service was impeccable. Pasta Pepe was one of the best pastas I have ever had
My wife and I celebrated her birthday at our favorite Village restaurant - The Basin. Andrew's fare was as great as ever.
Food was good but overpriced
First of all, Alex was on point with everything. He gave us recommendations for our first time and made the night so smooth for me.
If there is anything I would order again,
The seared ahi along with the foie gras.
Those two alone were amazing but the top winner in my book as well as my wife's was the scallops.
There was never a moment where I've said to myself, I want scallops right now but after that night, I'm judging places on their scallop presentation because it was just mind blowing.
I wish I could explain it but it was easily the best scallop dish I've never had.
It was a pure experience.
Great food, excellent service. Can't recommend this place highly enough.
Have dined here three times. Overall a decent experience but be prepared to WAIT...the kitchen cannot deliver in a timely manner...way to long between ordering, salads, to main course...
This place is all around amazing. The food selection is great, as is the wine. Their seasonal specials are excellent as well no matter what time of year. Andrew (owner) is an amazing host and really takes the time to get to know you. One of the chefs, Steven, is hilarious, kind, charismatic, and extremely knowledgable and talented. If you get a chance to talk to him during your meal (he circulates), you should definitely take the opportunity.
This is one of those rare places that grows on you the more you go.
The Basin has nice menu options, variety of proteins and diversity of fare. However, everything on their menu is about 20% overpriced for the quality and portion that you get. Pasta with Chicken was over $30, and wasn't the most impressive sauce, or presentation. Wine list was decent, but individual glass selection was poor and again EXTREMELY overpriced. I feel this place has an opportunity to improve by normalizing their prices or increasing the bang for buck value in their plates with better portions or more interesting recipes.
Never disappoints! The owner, Andrew, epitomizes what every restaurant owner should be. The service is superb and it's clear that everyone who works here enjoys doing so.
Insider tip - Although the gumbo isn't currently on the menu, you can still order it and I highly recommend that you do so! The fish special is always delicious as well. My current favorite is the new Pata Pepe pasta - the Basin's twist on a traditional Roman dish Cacio e Pepe.
If you're still hungry, don't miss the Chocolate Bomb dessert - the best chocolate molten cake ever!
We went on a busy Saturday night and had a lovely table in the courtyard next to the 300+ year old tree. Wonderful atmosphere. Enjoyed the Paella and Truffle Fries as Small Plates. I had the Scallops and my fiancé had the Sea Bass special. Both were delicious! Andrew, the owner, was a gracious host and made sure we had a wonderful evening. Service was perfect. We will definitely return soon.
A beautiful interior "outdoor" dining area - if that makes sense. A very nice selection of wine and craft cocktails. The food was well presented and tasted fabulous. I would like recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area.
We had a great night, amazing dinner to celebrate our anniversary!!!!
Despite our knowledgable and attentive waiter, we were disappointed with our first trip to the basin. Compared to Oakland, the prices were very steep for entrees and wine by the glass, and the food was pleasant but unmemorable. I won't be back.
Always flawless in every respect, thats why my friends and I keep comming back.
The bar is the perfect size, the bartenders always friendly and knowledgeable..... The food is always fantastic and the service is excellent.
