Went here at the recommendation of my father, who loves this place. Late Sat night, restaurant was half full. I was sat underneath a vent that was blowing cold air. After some tweaking to the air controls - the cold air bursts were less sporadic, but still a tad annoying. I ordered the Chicken Avocado sandwhich. Unfortunately - the avocado wasn't quite ready yet, as it took a forceful knife strike to get through it. Also - wasn't sure if the Chicken on the sandwhich was supposed to be hot or cold, because it was neither. I found it amazing that they could screw up both elements the sandwhich was named after. As a person trying to watch his weight, this menu was a challenge for sure.
I have dined here many times over the past years. I have watched the quality of food and service drop from very good to fair.
On Open Table I specified a special occasion and there was no acknowledgement of my request.
I also found it interesting that on a Saturday night the restaurant was almost empty.
I asked the waiter about making me a rum and pineapple and he said if it was not on the menu they could not make it.
I probably will not be going back and would not recommend.
Service was poor. We were a party of 4 in a fairly empty restaurant. 2 salads were served correctly but 2 had to be sent back as they were not what ordered. Took a long time to remedy. Asked for extra bread. Never got it. On the plus side, our vegetarian butternut/sundried risotto and greek salad were plentiful and excellent. My husband and I shared these. Don't think we'll return.
I haven't been there in a year or more and I have been wanting to get back there for dinner. The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. Same I remember - Always consistently good. I will be going back to Basil Leaf more often. Lunch and dinner are both very good!
Inside of restaurant was like a freezer so ate outside. Chairs on lower patio are strangely very low relative to table surface. Or maybe the tables are high. Either way we all felt like we needed booster seats ;)
Service was good. There was literally nobody else dining there while the restarting across the street was packed. Shame, this is a good location and the options downtown get old. They should consider livening up the patio.
It's not a bad restaurant, it is just "forgettable". Maybe it was just an off night. Service was good and good alright but seating was odd and we kept looking across the street at the other restaurant and wishing we were there lol.

We had dinner here with friends on a Tuesday evening. It wasn't crowded at all, probably because the word is getting out that the food here is just okay. The portions were large, but the fish tasted either old or previously frozen. The seasonings were minimal, so the food was rather bland. I had the Salmon a la Vodka which was tasty. Such a large portion that I took half of it home. Then several hours later, I started feeling ill. Subsided after a few hours, but made me leery of eating the leftovers, so I threw them away. What a waste, but didn't want to take any chances.
Although the price was very reasonable, and we had a coupon for 50% off the second entree, it still will not draw us back. Unfortunate, since we used to love this place and enjoyed the ambiance and the food. When there are so many other restaurants in Danville, that have special discounts (like Passport Dining) and better food, that is where we will go next time.
As far as appetizers go, If you like Brussel sprouts. My wife said these were the best she has ever eaten in her life. She also said the Salmon was the best ever. I had the chicken and pasta. It was very very good as well. The only slight knock was the service started out slow, but it did pickup after we ordered some drinks.
We selected this restaurant because my wife used to frequent it with her friends and had good things to say about it. We had an early dinner in a practically empty restaurant.
For appetizers, my wife and I shared "Mozzarella Caprese". The tomato was cut very thin, their was barely any basil, and there was barely any balsamic drizzle. My son ordered fried mozzarella and the cheesy bread. Both of those two appetizers tasted fine, but the latter took about 20 minutes to arrive.
I had a Caesar salad and cioppino and both were bad. The salad was covered in powdery parmesan cheese that I'm sure came out of a green plastic container. Since I love anchovies with my salad and they hadn't been offered, I asked the waiter for them. Five or six anchovies were server in a pool of fishy oil on a separate plate. The cioppino had uncracked crab that I couldn't get at since while I was given a cracker, I couldn't really handle it due to the temperature and I wasn't given anything small enough to get at the meat. The small lobster was cut in half so I could get at the tail meat. The mollusks, two scallops, and four shrimp were fine. The calamari totaled maybe an once in little quarter-inch rings. The broth had a thick layer of oil on its surface. The flavor was okay.
My wife had Chicken Piccata and it was horrible. The poached or microwaved chicken clearly had freezer burn and wasn't breaded or dredged at all. They also made the curious choice of adding red onion to the sauce.
My son had the "Meatball Bolognese" and while the pasta and sauce were fine, the meatball had no texture and had a ton of fennel in them.
Though we saw they had parmesan available, we weren't offered any. My iced tea was refilled once, but my wife didn't get a refill. We saw our waiter when seated and only once after the food came.
Half of the restaurant was way too hot to eat in.
They charged me $3.50 for those anchovies.
We won't be going back.
Basil Leaf has always been a favorite of mine. The atmosphere is wonderful especially outside seating. However, this time around my family & I had the company of some very energetic wasps. It made dinner really hard to enjoy. I hadn't seen my Chicago relatives for a long time & this was disturbing. I asked the waiter if there was something he could do, perhaps spray something. He only gave us the option of sitting inside. It was a beautiful night & the last place we wanted to be was inside.
Reservation for 8. Seated right away inside. Service was good and Italian entrees were exceptional. Meatball appetizer could've been an entree by itself. Portions very generous so share if not real hungry.
Bummed we couldn't sit outside but nice meal all the same. Outside seating doesn't work for groups over 4.
One key suggestion would be they expand wine list as small selection available.
Air conditioning not working on a day when it was over 100 degrees outside. Four of the 6 in our party are elderly. One of our party later used the restroom and found the area surrounding that location to be cool and had open seats/tables. Our experience was very uncomfortable, but the food was tasty and well prepared. The service was good. Water refills were frequent. But there was no special offer to compensate for the disappointing absence of comfortable surroundings.., such as complimentary desserts or drinks.
It was the first time we went there. The place is a little dirty, a little dated and the food was no good. There are flies in the restaurant, the table cloth was dirty and wine was warm. We went out to eat because it was hot and this restaurant does not have sufficient AC. The pizza looked like a frozen pizza and the pasta dish was so so. We won't go again. It's too bad because it's such a great location and close to our house.
