The Barrel Room - San Francisco
We’ll be opening for outdoor dining and take out on JUNE 22! Thank you all for your support.
The Barrel Room is a restaurant with a rotating regional menus imagined and developed every four months featuring dishes, wines, and cocktails inspired by different regions of the world.
Our 50+ wines by the glass are carefully selected from small producers to reflect the current region. We maintain a bottle list of over 1,500 labels, from vintage Champagnes to aged Bordeaux to lesser-known wines from more obscure wine regions such as Bosnia and Georgia.
Come experience a totally different type of dining... stay tuner for updates!
Fried Brussel Sprouts
brussel almond pesto, parmigiano, bacon (optional)
fennel sausage with paprika and calabrian chili, broccoli rabe, giant white beans, pancetta, pecorino
bacon, egg, blue cheese, avocado, shallot vinaigrette
Good place for office lunch. Was able to reserve in the morning a table for 10, for 12 pm lunch.
Fun place, very nice wine. Great service. I love how they rotate their wine selection across regions. Neat idea and I experienced Italian wines I knew nothing about. Looking forward to going back!
Have been here for business lunch several times and always enjoyed it. First time trying the dinner menu and it didn't disappoint! The wine flight was a great experience and the suggest flight paired with the steak very nicely. My dining companion is a vegan and while the menu options are limited for her, she was able to have the eggplant caponata and lentil soup and thoroughly enjoyed both.
Waiter was a smart a$$ but the food was awesome
Everything was delicious and service was perfectly professional. Fun wine list. Great San Francisco after work vibe. We will definitely return.
Lovely vibe, I would recommend those who value both food and the environment
Competent food, great cocktail. Perfect spot for a quick bite before a downtown event.
We went with a large group (7 people), which I would not recommend. The restaurant is pretty noisy so not ideal for hearing at a large table; plus they don't serve wine flights for groups greater than 6 (even if you have less than 6 people in your group who want a wine flight, which I don't get). Overall, wine was pricey but great and food was just ok and service was meh. I'd go back for a drink only.
Food was really good, the restaurant was fairly busy during the workweek lunch. The server did mistake one of our orders, but it was fixed really quickly and the staff was all really nice. I'd go back!
It was extremely loud and we were a group of 7. You could barely hear the people next to and across the table much less up and down the table. This detracted from the entire experience. I think most of the food was good but some in my party didn’t like their dishes. The waitperson was not around much. However, the guy that served the food and took care of the water was very pleasant.
Needed a long lunch with multiple out of country guests -- the whole team accommodated us... perfect table, patient service, outstanding food. This was my 6th time dining here for business lunches and I will keep coming back. Wonderful location; inspired dishes and wines; upscale without any pretension or fussyness. Love it.
The lentil soup and salad were delicious! Great spot to grab a bite to eat before catching a comedy show at the Punchline.
Excellent. We had our board dinner at The Barrel Room. A first for many of us. It was excellent. I would highly recommend The Barrel Room.
Had a group of 8 for dinner. Great overall experience, but confusing when time for the check. Being a group in town for a conference, we all have to adhere to certain guidelines in regards to being reimbursed and it would have been a plus to have someone ask about the check either up front or prior to bringing it out.
Very nice place for a business lunch. Very busy so be sure to have a reservation. It’s noisy and busy at lunch. Food and service is great. They also have a underground bar that is super fun and ideal for happy hour!
The private cellar dining room is outstanding, and the service was top notch. Especially enjoyed the unique Portuguese menu and wine pairings.
Luncheon dinning for 3. Excellent food and specialty drinks. Would like to go back in the evening for happy hour and prohibition drinks in the cellar.
Food was pretty good. Wine was excellent. Ambiance was quiet and comfortzble.
This restaurant went directly to my favorites list. Outstanding wine selection. The menu cycles from one country/cuisine to another through the year so check the website. On this night it was Portuguese. The food was excellent. The service was truly 5 Star. The waiter was always around but not intrusive. It was the best location that I have eaten in recently to have a low background noise discussion. If you like great wines and like to experiment with cuisine, this is a winner.
Good place for drinks and appetizers. The wine selection is extensive and the staff are very knowledgeable. Not worth staying for dinner. The halibut was over cooked and my rice was under cooked.
The team was completely satisfied with dinner. Adding The Barrel Room to our preferred restaurant list.
Cool place, recommend the Clear Creek Brandy Cocktails. Current menu is Themed on Portugal and everything we had was amazing. My partner has food allergies and the wait staff/chef had no problem steering us away from certain items and serving sauce on the side to avoid any potential issues. We look forward to coming back soon and will keep eyes out for the next menu offering.
The Barrel Room concept of matching the wines of a region to the food of a region is an excellent one. Not only do you get to sample some great wines you'd likely never otherwise try, the food is extremely good. Cool speakeasy downstairs, too, and an awesome wine store. I recommend without reservation -- although you should definitely make a reservation (or sit at the bar)
Outstanding. Especially the service
Our first night visiting from New York, and we had a really wonderful experience! Great food, great wine, great service!
Great place for biz lunch and I saw a nice private room I will definitely use for a dinner
Server was amazing and kind. Our cocktails were late so had glasses of champagne comped!
Food and ambiance were great.
My go to place for business lunches. It’s right next to my office and they sure treat you well. Food is yummy
Great food and accommodating service!
Went for a co-workers bday lunch. Everything was great !
Every time i get a chance to come to the city, always have dinner at the barrel room. Just love their food, wine, and the quality of the customer service.
Barrel Room is constantly changing their menu, so it’s hard to suggest a certain item. One issue we ran into was dish size. I got a sausage entree dish that was extremely large, while my girlfriend got a pasta entree dish that was tiny. Luckily there was plenty for me to share. If you’re very hungry, make sure you ask about entree size.
Great restaurant with excellent food, great drink options, and wonderful ambiance - I love that it's a little more hidden and not overbooked
We like this so much last week we returned again! Different initial waiter this time who was not as attentive and seemed in a rush not focusing on guest service. Glad we had our last waiter for the remainder of the meal. Looking at reviews there's some inconsistency in this area that could be improved. We did the champagne and wine flights were a good value, nice pours, and opportunity to taste wine we would not have tried. The food was excellent!
No complaints! I could eat those Brussels sprouts every day.
This is my go to business lunch place. The staff is friendly and food is good. Very busy and noisy though
The flavors were unique and well balanced. The regional theme for the quarter makes this a place to return for a new experience. The spring green salad was unique and the best I've had at many fine places. Portions were more than satisfactory. The Venison Spezzatino was flavorful and tender: give it a try if you've never had venison, you will enjoy! If there is a boisterous party it does get loud however the wait staff and food override such inconvenience.
They did a fine job seating us and taking our order. The wine pours were pretty light, though. For a $20 glass of wine, I'd expect to have more than 4 sips. Kind of a bummer for a place that's trying to be a wine bar.
My go to business lunch place. They are also really good about accommodating you if late or early. Great food
