as much as we love the beautiful and idyllic setting outdoors, we have been to the restaurant a few times in the past months and overall experience is always a guess. Food could be better and portions are too small for the price.
We ordered the PI mussels and were suggested to order the baguette to scoop up the juices as no bread was coming with the plate. And, as another reviewer pointed out, the “baguette” was literally 5 very thin slices, not even a quarter the size of a regular size baguette for Usd7 that of course was gone by the time the mussels arrived.. the fried chicken main course: 3 tiny pieces served with no side order and priced at 26usd that my teenager son finished in 2 minutes..
Damp after big rainstorm, but the food was good. Wish there was more fish on the menu, but the one choice was good. Service was beyond leisurely. Server was cheery and pleasant, but rarely saw her on the floor and needed to send others to find her.
Not sure what happens in bad weather, but all surfaces were wet and wish we had brough our own towel to dry off chairs. We expected more from a Relais $ Chateau.
Monitor the weather before you go!
The ambiance and service was great. The menu is very limited… wish they had a bigger lunch menu.
We had our Father’s Day brunch there, and was not as special as we anticipated. It has all the potential to be great, if the service was not as slow, inaccurate in taking orders and unfriendly.
Hello Carolh, We are sad to hear that The Barn was not as you anticipated. We try our best to make our guest happy in every way. If I recall, you may have been a large group that had a minor mishap that the manager corrected after the order was repeated from the server. We did accommodate with complementary drinks and desserts after rectifying the issue. Once again, we are truly sorry for any misunderstandings or communications that may have been crossed.
Bedford Post just continues to disappoint. We live in Bedford, so we keep trying it, but it just never hits the mark. Seems like it tries to be a City restaurant, but not only doesn't quite get there, it's not really what people here are looking for.
I'm certainly not looking for being charged another $7 for a bread "appetizer" when I ask for a few more slices of bread for my 3 yd old.
Hoping the upcoming hotel renovation turns the corner but all the locals are skeptical given the numerous previous tries to turn into something you want to keep going back to.
We always have the best time! Food delicious,
Atmosphere perfection, Roxanne and her team are the best!!
Good food good service. The patio is nice and the menu is varied. A good place to enjoy a good meal
Brought my wife here for her birthday dinner. She describes it as one of the best meals she's ever had in her life. I feel the same. On top of the incredible food, the staff were absolutely wonderful. We were sitting outdoors under a canopy in the middle of a drenching thunderstorm, but never got wet, and were thoroughly comfortable. 11/10 would recommend to everyone on every birthday. Cheers and see you soon!
Had dinner outside in the “Barn” area. Pretty setting, tables placed far enough apart. The drinks and food were good. Our one complaint was the portions. We ordered the baguette and butter for the table. The “baguette” was literally 5 very thin slices, not even a quarter the size of a regular size baguette. The shrimp cocktail was 4 not 6 shrimp. My friend ordered the scallops. There were 4 on her plate. Half the plate was empty. She said they were delicious, but that is not a meal.
Perfect in all aspects. From the food and drinks to the service to the ambiance I wouldn’t change any of it.
A Disappointment. 1 hr, 15 mins before our meal was served. Customers who arrived later than we did were served before we were. When our dinners finally arrived, the steak (steak frites) was stringy, the scallops with greens seemed to have been tossed carelessly on the plate. The restaurant did, however, manage to remember it was a birthday celebration and presented us with a small bit of cake with a candle. All in all, we wondered if the Barn management was practicing some sort of ageism and wanted to discourage seniors (which we are) from dining there.
We live nearby and had thoughts of bringing guests there. No longer.
Dear Diner, We are sorry to hear that you think we have issues with age. We treat everyone with great respect and as equals. I would like to clear this up as we take great pride in celebrating special occasions with out guest from Date Night, Anniversaries, Birthday's to first night out due to covid. We treat every occasion with a glass of Cava which the manager brought over with a birthday blessing as well as the candle on the cake. Be safe and we hope you change your mind.
Birthday dinner---manager was great in bringing a surprise desert.
We had an absolutely fabulous time at The Barn! It is an idyllic setting and the food, drinks, and service were top notch! It’s the perfect spot for a relaxed bite to eat with upscale, quality food selections! I highly recommend the steak tartare, although everything we had was positively delicious! Cannot wait to head back!
Very quaint .... outdoor seating only at this time. Food and service very good, salmon eggs benedict was outstanding.
A little pricey ... had to order bread to go with the mussels ($) and mimosas $15.
Would not let me taste a wine by the glass prior to purchase. Burger was over cooked to well done. Manager didn’t care about either.
Good evening diner, We are sorry that your experience was unpleasant and not to your liking. The server usually notifies the manager and they come to the table to assist. We aim to please our guest to insure they have a pleasantly experience. Please ask for management in the future if have an issue. We care about everyone’s needs.
We had a wonderful anniversary dinner and the service was excellent.
Food and Service were terrible . The drinks took forever to come out and the food was bland and dry
Hello Diner, Some cuisines are not for everyone but we are sorry that the food and service was not to your liking. The chef has prepared lovely dishes that are liked by our guest from around the world. Some dishes are lighter in flavor and others are more robust the provides a mouth full experience. If you dine with us again please see a manager so that we can suggest something to your liking.
We loved our dinner and it was a wonderful spot to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our waiter Leo was very kind and informative.
For weeks I’ve been looking forward to celebrating my birthday dinner at The Barn with my family. We arrived with great anticipation and we were escorted to the table. Unfortunately, this table was next to a wood pile, stacked umbrellas, and outdoor heaters-all with a view of the parking lot. There was the steady hum of the air conditioner to create a cozy ambience. When I asked the hostess for a different table, she said that my request could not be accommodated. I politely asked for the manager and was told he was not on the premises. I reiterated my request and again no alternatives were offered. Surprisingly a manager appeared and I again stated my request for a table where the music was something other than the air conditioner. No accommodations were offered except that he could move a speaker closer to the table so we could hear the music. No other options. As we left, still another manager appeared with a headset and acted surprised that we would would not want to sit in at a table next to a tarp. Again-no options. There is nothing I can do we were told for the third time. My only regret is that I didn’t get a picture to add to this review. We left and will never come back to this over-rated, self absorbed establishment. If you need a good place to eat where they are happy to accommodate you on short notice, try Bacio’s in Cross River. They don’t disappoint. I do have one lingering question. I wonder if Richard and Martha would have had the same deplorable customer service?
Hello reviewer, I’m sorry your experience was not what you were hoping. Unfortunately the restaurant has a limited amount of large tables to accommodate a party of your size. You where the smallest of the two large parties for that day and that’s why we had you seated at the table surrounded by flowers, organized piles of wood for the fire pit as well as a beautifully covered area with wisteria. We are sorry that we could not accommodate your requests but maybe in the future.
I rarely write reviews, but the start of our meal was so unpleasant that a basic “wake up” is in order. The Barn is a lovely outdoor dining location, albeit right beside a modestly busy road. Critically, it is a cell phone dead zone (esp. for Verizon). The restaurant has masking protocol for outdoor dining (walking to/from tables outside - ok, silly on 6-6-21, but fine), and they are using QC code menus exclusively. The free guest wifi doesn’t work, and the waiters aren’t authorized to give you to “Inn” code, so a manger has to come and assist each person individually. Our party of 4 took 10-15 minutes to each be able to open a menu. Do they have paper back-ups? Nope. I am not a restaurant proprietor, but if you are running a spot in the woods, ya might wanna have a paper menu because your guests can’t get reception to open a QC menu. Between us, we had 5 phones and only one worked with the free wifi. Everyone else had to be prompted with the secret “Inn” code. Pretty basic stuff to avoid — start a meal with a stress; no coffee and no cocktails. Food was fine; no one raved. Eggs Benedict was on an untoasted muffin. Skimpy meal IMHO. The best thing were the cocktails, which were delightful.
Nice evening. Good food. Scallops were delicious. Try the PB & J ice cream sandwich. Fun!
Third time dining here and despite all the issues regarding supply chain disruptions and qualified staff hiring, the food and service was excellent. Has to be one of the most beautiful settings for a restaurant so that alone make it worth coming. We started off with the Quail egg & Oyster shooters (yes you should try it) followed by the Tarte Flambee (challenge you to find better). Finally the Tricolor salad and the Fried Chicken wound out the evening -YUM!!! If you're a local, you should get behind and support what Roxanne and her team are building here. After years of revolving door owners, we finally have someone who understands what they are doing despite incredible Covid related headwinds, has been doing an incredible job.
Everything was so delicious. Service was spot-on. So happy this little gem is right down the street.
Lovely setting despite the heavy rain! Thankfully they have a covered area outdoors and heaters. My friend and I enjoyed brunch, including the Barn Breakfast and the Veggie Burger. We splurged on the peanut butter and jelly cinnamon roll. Not something I would typically order, but thoroughly enjoyed! Service was warm and welcoming per usual. The hostess even walked us to our car with umbrellas given how much it was raining. We’ll definitely be back.
Disappointing. We were there in January and it was great. Service this time was absolutely terrible.
It was pouring and I got wet and cold outdoors. I thought indoors was open
We had read previous reviews, so knew the experience might be "all over the place", so accepted it as such and still enjoyed the evening. The terrace dining is lovely. We were greeted with complimentary champagne, which was nice. But food is hit or miss and service needs work. Servers wear their own street clothes with aprons on, a bit off-putting at a fine dining establishment. There were many earnest people busily rushing around, detracting from the mood, and it was not really clear who was responsible for what and which one(s) were "our" servers. Wrong things were delivered and "who had the X?" was asked when the food came. The menu was pretty extensive. The appetizers we ordered were a flatbread (thumbs up) and a soup (bright green, underwhelming). Unfortunately the soup for me came with the wrong appetizer for my husband. The server seemed bent out of shape about this (really?!) but my husband had clearly ordered the flatbread so... um, yeah. By the time his correct appetizer arrived I had already finished my (slowly-eaten) soup. The main course went one for two. My husband's carbonara did not look good in the bowl and in fact was not good. He only ate half of it; it was cleared with no comment. My scallops on the other hand were very good indeed. Recommended. The wine choices were good and we liked that the by-the-glass selections came in a little pichet so you could pour at your own pace. One time though the server tried to clear my glass when there was still wine in it; I had to grab it back from her. The desserts were good. I ordered a chocolate brownie-ish thing with mint ice cream and my husband ordered a pavlova with rhubarb. Quite nice. We were never offered coffee with the dessert. $200 plus tip. Music was "peppy" with Rolling Stones and so forth, took a bit getting used to in garden setting. Perhaps not some people's cup of tea. We would give The Barn another try, hope they improve and survive. BTW Martha Stewart was dining there too, kind of a hoot!
Hello Diner, It saddens me to know that your experience at the Barn was not what you were hoping. I want to send my deepest apologies for any mishaps that took place while you were dining. I also would like to clear up the misunderstanding that our employees wear street clothes. They do wear button up denim shirts and nice brown aprons for our upscale casual dining. Please reach out to one of the managers at your next visit so that we can make sure you have a much better experience.
In past experience the Bedford Post Inn had been incredible. However on our recent visit it
Great outdoor dining but way too many mosquitoes
Beautiful outdoor seating area. Great service, excellent food.
Delightful setting, wonderful background music & attentive, charming service. The drink & food selection is varied & interesting. The cocktails were delicious, but... the food
is a weak spot. The pork entrée was riddled with fat & the halibut was bland. However, hats off to the mussels & smashed potatoes!
Food good but came to the table lukewarm. Run by young ones.
A very romantic destination with great food too boot!
Beautiful patio, great menu, great service, great food and even better cocktail menu.
Brunch potatoes are oily and burned. Poached eggs not appropriately cooked. Scallops very good.
We have a great server and staff experience and it is always nice atmosphere!!
Lovely to have a delicious light brunch on the patio, with nice trees and the trellis above. It is expensive, but worth it for the imaginative quality food, the excellent service, and the great ambiance.
Beautiful outdoor atmosphere and adequate social distancing. Heat lamps and lighting. Food was fabulous and service was fantastic.
Frequent patron who has never been disappointed with service or food
Highly recommend to anyone
We had my birthday brunch outside and it was just lovely!
