Great food, great service and dogs are welcome, they even cooked a sausage for him
Fabulous food, wonderfully friendly and helpful staff and great facilities. An absolute thumbs up from all of us. It was so nice to have a decent roast dinner and kids were kept happy too!
Really friendly staff, lovely food and did not feel rushed. Will definitely come back
This review isn't really relevant to food. We had a booking for Saturday evening to celebrate my partners birthday. If I hadn't looked on Barley Mow Facebook page I wouldn't have known that they were closed on that day! Whilst I understand that we can't predict the weather some sort of cancellation notice would have been appreciated! Instead I kept receiving emails from Open Table to confirm my booking!! And now you are asking about my dining experience!! Absolutely ridiculous!!!
We arrived for our booking before 6pm we were welcomed by one other car in the car park who were also waiting, we walked round the building and didn't see any of the staff and no other customers. I tried calling 3 times and no answer. We then left so was very disappointed.
Arrived to discover it was closed. Wasn't notified, drove 20 miles to get there too. Other people who had also booked were there waiting aswell. Tried calling but no reply.
The seating was well spaced out and the service was brilliant. We really enjoyed the food and they were very accommodating for my toddler! Lovely play area too. Highly recommended!
First table and food took an hour. Service very slow started raining and they put an umbrella up on an empty table !!
Terrible service. Staff unaware of people waiting for drinks or to order food. Orders forgotten and had to be reminded twice. Overall very poor.
Lovely meal food was amazing it was still restricted to seating outside so was cold but that’s not the pubs fault. Service was great really friendly staff and lovely food best burger ever according to my hubby! Defo will visit again .
excellent food and service, despite the weather. Could have done with more outdoor heating considering lockdown situation and the almost guaranteed rain on a bank holiday weekend.
Lovely setting if your looking for a country pub meal.food is delicious. Take something warm if you’re sitting outside as the gas had all run out when we went on a cold evening.
Great food , could do with a heater for the cooler days (a British bank holiday). Good all service and value.
A great lunch and we loved the arrangements outside. Food choice was great and delicious when our dishes arrived.
Loved the views of the hills and a good play area for children
Had a lovely lunch at the Barley Mow,
Great food and great service, and our waitress was very attentive and helpful.
The outdoor space was perfect, plenty of tables but all well spaced apart and the play area was perfect for my nieces little boy, haven’t been here for a long time but will definitely be back and would happily recommend it to others.
Great food and service. Only 4 stars as felt the meat of the duck main was a bit dry and perhaps sliced breast would be better.... other than that was lovely! Great kid’s play area and plenty of safe outdoor seating
Sadly this was not our best experience here. Food was well below what we normally get. One member of our party did not end up having a main meal as both lasagne's he was served were hard and inedible. The crab & prawn starters had to be sent back because they were hard at the bottom. The chicken and lamb in the roast dinners was tough. The burgers and scampi were good and the chips were amazing. Feel that the matter could have been dealt with by a senior member of staff rather than letting the waitress have to contend with the problems.
Excellent Sunday Roast. Only one cask beer on. Interesting music
Had a very nice visit to the barley mow. Staff were all lovely and helpful. Food time was great and was lovely.
Overall a great visit
Just popped out for a meal like you do .
Food was fabulous, but the service could have been a bit quicker, as there weren’t many customers in the garden.
It was fairly cold, so maybe they could have offered blankets to keep us warm!!!!
This pub has an enormous garden with a kids play area. The food was very good and the service was friendly. Would visit again.
Don't bother, service is poor the waitresses are doing their best but there's no ownership of tables which meant that our food was served 10 minutes before the cutlery which was been polished, resulting in cold food. Our order also had 3 random portions of garlic bread, the kids meals were adult meals and the waitresses couldn't tell us when serving the roasts which were lamb or beef. Prices have also been increased which feels like they are trying to claw back every penny they can since been closed, but this is the same situation everywhere currently to be fair. We had another booking here for next Sunday which we have now cancelled.
Freezing cold food!!! no cutlery to eat it with as being polished!!
Lovely lunch outing. Lovely food and great space for kids to play safely.
We love this pub and appreciate it was the first Saturday it was open, however they could have been more organised for table service. The wait for drinks was long. Food wait wasn't too bad but they just couldn't cope with how busy they were. The staff however were working hard and cheerful and pleasant. There just needed to be more of them. Will definitely go back and would still recommend.
Was very excited about having dinner outside as it’s been to long however it was very busy and I had to find someone to get seated knowing I had booked ahead. The food took over hour to arrive the food was very good however very over priced for what we had....I can’t really see myself returning.
A great outdoor setting, the sun shone with a good playground for the children but unfortunately our outing was tainted as our food order was wrong. 2 adult dishes arrived but the wrong children’s meal and ice creams at the same time which were half melted when the kids came to eat them? And one child’s meal was completely forgotten. I would have rather they had forgotten the adult meal, how do you explain to a 5 year old that their meals not coming, they been forgotten? We shared our food and got an extra plate and the playground made up for it fortunately. I understand that it’s the first week back and the staff were very busy. They also didn’t charge us for the kids meals which was a good gesture. It’s put us off eating here again I’m afraid as our daughter was so disappointed so it may be a while until we try the Barley Mow in the future.
It was very busy, understandably as everywhere has only just opened back up. However, the staff were very polite and helpful and the food was lovely. The food was only a 30 minute wait, even with all the tables full. No complaints. Will definitely return. Lovely evening. Thank you
I’m sure this family pub could be great, but on lockdown easing weekend there just weren’t enough team members to manage the tables.
Orders were forgotten or late, the waiting staff seemed flustered. I’m sure in a few weeks they will find their groove again, however not the best on our visit. We wanted to spend money with them but had to cancel our dessert order as we’d already waited for 30 mins before we were told it was going to be another 20-30 mins.
We will be back, as the beer garden and kids park is great...especially when the sun is shining. The team just need to regroup and plan how they want to manage tables, orders, additional drinks and dessert orders.
Great food. The playground area is fantastic if you are with children. The service was a little slow but I think that's because they are just getting back into the swing of things.
Really appreciate thoughtful response to a late booking, welcoming service when we arrived, and sympathy with the cold temperature which you could not be responsible for! But we did appreciate the outdoor heaters. Well done for opening in these conditions.
Great food and a lovely setting. Thoroughly enjoyed it and the kids loved the playground
Service very good Staff very friendly
Excellent service from start to finish for my 3 friends & l ... Great staff, great setting, great prices & great evening !!!!
Lovely food but was disappointed to have limited options on the menu and fish and chips had sold out at lunchtime. Also different menu to the one advertised on website when I booked. Otherwise it was a nice eve.
Fantastic food, as always. Great service. Would definitely recommend a visit
Very nice setting
Happy to eat out in a covid safe restaurant
Lovely country pub: sheepskins on the seats, open fire, relaxed ambience.
Food solid and tasty.
Service top notch.
