Located in the gloriously updated first floor of The Hollywood Roosevelt, The Barish is Chef Nancy Silverton's latest addition to the Los Angeles dining scene. Our restaurant pays homage to Nancy's family who raised cattle at the Barish Farm in central Canada. The menu features steakhouse classics, pasta al forno, along with some of Nancy's reimagined Italian favorites. We look forward to seeing you.

Sadly, this was a huge disappointment. Food was just average. We ordered so many different items. Highlight was the roll. Beautiful room. Not returning.

The standout for me is really the wine list. Creative, not overly priced - interesting. Food for me was just ok. Nothing really interesting about that sadly. I was hoping for an uncomplicated salad which didn’t seem to exist as a mid course. All had too much going on with it. The most disappointing was the pasta dish which was Mac and cheese although no indication of that on the menu. I get the sense that they are going for dishes that can be pre- prepped as much as possible. So not much that needs a lot of time to get to the customer. The steaks I’ve read here are probably sous vide ahead and then just grilled quickly. Is it that they have a small kitchen to work with?
Love the location in the Roosevelt- that needed a good restaurant. But Mozza is much better.

This was a horrible sad experience.
Arrived 15 mins early, hostess told us to "come back at your reservation time." We could clearly see open tables - but said okay and came back. We were then seated in the tiniest little 2 top crammed between two other tables- basically you sit WITH the other people. It was SO LOUD, people were basically yelling to hear each other. Our server "David" didn't appear to our table for 10mins. Then we got water. Eventually we placed our order. And was told something was out. So we ordered a replacement item. Some items came. Then told the item was available- they brought it. It was cold. Sent it back (was a mac and cheese thing) - we then waited AN HOUR for our main course (just flank steak they call Bavette)- meanwhile "David" is standing to the the table next to us talking with that table for over 15 mins. Yes I timed it. Chatting about hotels and vacation plans. Never once checking on us (or our food)...FINALLY I get his attention and he runs to get MANAGER. She comes over and acts confused. I tell her we have been here an hour and a half- and no main. So she goes to kitchen and in another 5 mins our steaks come out. COLD. Manager comes back and feigns interest if we are 'happy now'. I have no energy to complain anymore. The manager offers no free desert or coffee or even an apology. This place was such a disappointment. We left angry and sad. This was supposed to be a very special night- and this place failed so so hard.

Thanksgiving dinner $45 entree had one slice of rubbery breast and a tablespoon of mashed potatoes. Tasty dinner rolls available for $8@. Mushroom entree was great.
Barish martini is best I ever had though. Service was top notch. Steak was flavorful but chewy. Bread pudding was divine.

Very disappointed given the people involved in this kitchen. There was a surprising — and consistent —issue with our food not being warm enough. The rolls, for example, were served warm on the outside, but when they were torn open, they were room temperature on the inside. The rigatoni was also served room temperature -- and neither I nor my girlfriend were fans of the squash filling that seemed to overwhelm all the others flavors. But the $105 steak was the real miss. Again, it came out on the warmer side of room temperature, and I finally decided to complain. Our waiter explained that the meat is served that way at the restaurant in order to allow the juices to reabsorb. He offered to warm it up but a reheated steak never tastes good. Finally, the cookie dessert was a dry, overcooked butter cookie with some caramel and blanched almonds on top. A really uninspired cookie from a Silverton kitchen. A $300 meal that was a total bummer.

First time at the Barish. My husband and I are pescatarians so it was nice that they offered some fish and veggie dishes. The portion size for the price wasn’t very appealing. The tables are seated so close to each other that the waiters even have a difficult time serving the dishes or refilling the water. With tables being so close, you’re literally listening in on other tables conversations and can’t hear your own. Family size serving but the tables barely fit 2 dishes… it’s really frustrating.

My friend and I had a great dining experience at The Barish. Service was great and very helpful with selections. Everything went like clockwork. The food was outstanding. My friend is a pescatarian so I skipped the big steak for next time. We had a small issue with the valet (we did not validate) when leaving and one call to Peter, The Barish manager, and everything was resolved seamlessly. Looking forward to going back.

The server seemed to be in a rush and the restaurant was not busy. He made us feel we were bothering him in choosing a bottle of wine once we indicated we didn't want to spend over $200 on wine. He was super flippant with us asking for recommendations and didn't want to engage with us.

Even though we indicated it was my birthday that evening and why we chose to dine at the Barish (despite entering this occasion on our reservation, which the hostess confirmed) he did not acknowledge my birthday until my friend had to mention it. To this point, when we said we were full from dinner he suggested we probably didn't have room for dessert and so we reluctantly agreed as I was already so disappointed in his service and he seemed uninterested to deliver a birthday dessert to the table as a proper gesture of me choosing to celebrate at the Barish despite the many choices I had in Los Angeles. The food was amazing but the server was pretentious and rude.

Terrible value. $175 porterhouse tasted awful. Very overly dry aged and zero crust on the steak, tasted like it was made in the souis vide. Ordered lasagna and it came out cold. Joe Bastinich, one of the owners, came in drunk and stood at the line by the kitchen eating stuffed rigatoni in front of the whole restaurant. $480 dinner with gratuity included. If I worked my butt off for a month to take my girlfriend out to that dinner I would be very upset.

Celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary last night in style with a visit to Nancy Silverton's, The Barish, at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood. .
We opened with drinks...a Negroni for her and a martini for me. Great kickoff!
We started with the Dutch Baby, a crepe filled with 24 month aged prosciutto di Parma. The meat was buttery and tender. The age gave it great depth of flavor.
We followed with the iceberg wedge, but it was so much more, including Truffleburt Farm hazelnuts, the most delicious bacon, cipollini mushrooms, chunks of gorgonzola dulce and pickled red onions. It was plated in two identical layers, making it easy to share. Delicious.
Next, we selected a pasta...a 3 cheese elevated mac & cheese that was so rich and delicious, we didn't finish it. The dish was named for the bell shaped pasta, which was perfect as it captured and held all of the delicious gruyere, gouda and fontina melted and baked in...so good.
As our main, we shared a 20 oz dry aged NY strip (medium) with a side of pole beans, which was a combo of house grown beans, grown specifically on climbing vines, sautéed in brown butter with poblano, ham hock brodo and a perfect egg yolk. The varieties included green and yellow beans plus flat beans. Perhaps the star of the meal.
But back to that steak...it took an hour, but it was delicious... clearly dry aged is the way to go! It was tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned.
And how do you top a perfect meal? The Barish Hot Fudge Sundae. Hot fudge and butterscotch over vanilla ice cream with almonds and a shortbread tuile.
Definitely a fantastic meal... service (mostly from a slow kitchen, our server John was gracious and helpful) was a solid 9+! Worth noting, no entrance without a mask and proof of vaccination. We'd definitely go to The Barish again.

Very nice space and ambiance. Polite and engaging front of the house. Service staff is good and was accommodating to special needs and menu requests. However, The Barish bills itself as a steakhouse and the steak was the least appealing item served. There is no filet, only relatively large other cuts and one relatively inferior "flanksteak" cut. The New York was decent and well prepared although it was not as high quality as I would have expected which really detracted from the preparation. The best things on the menu was everything other than the steak! Bream was wonderful. The steak tar tar was the best I've ever had, as were absolutely amazing sweetbreads. Thick steak fries, came well done as requested, and were a huge hit. Like would not go back for the steak; would go back for the rest.

I had never been to the Roosevelt Hotel, so I decided to bring a friend for his 65th Birthday. We began with a relaxing drink in the lobby by the fire (surprisingly it was very cool as it was inside the Barish itself) before heading in for dinner.

I was disappointed when we were initially squeezed between two tables; this would have made our dinner impossible. I was asked where we would like to sit and we were able to move, spread out away from the chatter, and relax. (I'm sure the other two tables were equally relieved).

We started with the Pizza Fritta, Prosciutto Di Parma and Steak Tartare, all very fresh and delicious. The Duck Breast and New York Steak, our main dishes, were cooked perfectly and presented tastefully.

Our waiter was prompt, informed and engaging, as were all those helping at the table.

The Olive Oil Gelato with lighted candle and Birthday card made this evening unique.

Thanks for the memories!

Sea breem, bavette steal cooked perfectly medium-rare, warm testa, anchovies w Nancy's spectacular rustic bread, rotolo with a frico hat, creamed mustard greens & eggplants ith marrow. Service is attentive but not intrusive, many excellent suggestions. Portions are just right for sharing... Can't wait to return!

Food and service were exquisite. Prices are in line with what you expect from a high end restaurant. Incredible and creative olive oil gelato dessert was one of the many standouts of the meal! Wine selection was, in my opinion, the only thing I would say might be tweaked a bit. The wine list is several pages long with many Italian wine selections. That’s fine, but I would have liked to have seen more California and French wines. I’m a lover of more full-bodied Pinots and Cabs. Fantastic ambiance inside the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and the interior of the restaurant is a lovely mix of modern and old Hollywood glamour. I loved it and would go back in an instant. However, I might just pay the corkage fee instead.
