Went here with my mum to celebrate our last night in Toronto. We absolutely loved everything: attentive service, amazing food at a very reasonable price. Highly recommend!!

Excellent (5/5) service. Rice dish was also a banger. The rest of our experience, unfortunately, was average or below average. I’m not 100% sure how Alo has won all these awards. The dishes were just ok. Not bad, but certainly not worth the hype. Sorry to be a downer! Just giving my $0.02

We had the six course tasting menu and a bottle of champagne, spending around 650$ for two, celebrating my partner’s graduation. It wasn’t our first time at the bar end of the restaurant. It’s a decent space actually, not too cramped. I had the lamb main course replaced by a fish option, which may have been a bad choice, because it was the only course I thoroughly disliked, small and dry. Truly disappointing. I absolutely loved all the other dishes, every single one of them. I appreciated the absence of unnecessary razzle-dazzle that many other Michelin star restaurants engage in. The service was without fault. Every (of many) staff member paid close attention to each table, you never had to ask for anything, like water refills. Just perfect. What led to my low ranking had to do with the thoughtless low-light ambience. My partner is black, he sat with his back against the bar and windows. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I couldn’t make out his face during our dinner due to the low light ambience. I basically communicated with a set of teeth that I could see when he laughed or smiled. In fairness, there were only white people in the space that evening… but what on earth were they thinking! If you charge people that much for a dinner, it should be flawless. It wasn’t. I was furious when I left, but didn’t want my partner to realise what just had happened. Please fix the low light ambience so that it works for every guest, not just us light skin folks.

We ordered the 6 course tasting menu with wine pairing. The food was excellent but the portions, especially the main, were small so very disappointing. We left hungry and went somewhere else for more food afterwards. We are not big eaters but the portions were small, especially given the price of the meal. The wines were mediocre at best and only the final dessert wine was pleasing. We have much better stuff at home. Service was efficient and friendly and staff very professional.

Four of us had a great 6-course tasting menu, with wine pairings. Every course was excellent, and the wines were perfectly paired with each course. They also were able to accommodate my food allergy with no hassle. The service was impeccable. One minor complaint was that the music was very loud, and the people 2 tables away had to shout to be heard, which meant others did, too.
