The night -- Sunday at 5 PM -- had its ups and downs. The restaurant seemed seriously understaffed. We were the first seated, but the last to be waited on of four tables. The manager, Alberto, pitched in to take drink orders and finally our dinner requests. The food had its ups and downs as well: great clam chowder, and cod, the remainder of which was delicious even saved for the next day. The fish tacos were not so great. Nice to be seated by a fireplace, with children galore who were quiet and well-behaved and/or sleeping. We loved this place in its former iteration ("Post") and this was our second visit back to The Banks. Certainly convenient to the Lryic Stage, and we will give it another try, but Sunday was a tough go --

Good food in a nice upstairs room with a view of the open kitchen. Service was good, not great but they just opened and need time to get everyone up to speed. Raw bar was high quality. Dishes were presented well and tasted great.

I’ve now eaten at The Banks Fish House 4 times and every time the food has been consistently delicious. A friend was visiting from London and loved the experience. She sampled the Lobster Roll and thoroughly enjoyed it. I went for my favorite which is the dover sole. I understand that it’s an expensive piece of fish for a lot of folks but it’s always been a personal favorite, not something I’m eating every day and worth every dollar particularly when cooked so superbly. The almonds and butter and grilled broccolini make a great accompaniment. Our server was friendly, attentive and really made it a great experience. Already making a follow on reservation to bring another friend from out of town.
Ps. Would love to see the standard creme brûlée come back on the menu as that was sublime! (just not a fan of chai!) The banana fosters sundae rounded off our meal nicely!

Really wanted to love this place but unfortunately it didn´t meet expectations, which were high given same owner as Grill 23. Besides the super fresh oysters and yummy shrimp cocktail, the main courses (fish tacos and fisherman´s platter) were just ok. The Dover Sole market price was $75...at a price point like that, you don´t want to hear top40 music which made it feel more like TGIFridays, which is a small but important thing for the ambience. The restaurant itself is otherwise stylish and inviting with high potential to be great. Really wanted this to be our new non-stuffy-but-high-quality seafood joint, so I hope they take the feedback and maybe we´ll give it another try.

Solid seafood restaurant with great quality seafood and good preparation with some inventive flair. Our server was fantastic, but the kinks weren't quite worked out on the runner staff. All-in-all, a lovely dinner with tasty dishes in a great atmosphere.

Calamari was quite good.
Was happy to see Bunker Machine Pilz on tap !! But carbonator or gas was somewhat screwed up and produced a huge head, very foamy

So excited to try with my family flying in for Thanksgiving after hearing about on WCVB news and then Chronicle couple weeks ago. Seafood tower for 4-6 was disappointing for $$$…lobster claws and tails, oysters on the half, not fresh tasting, very flat and little taste!
Likely had been shucked and refrigerated for some time.
One of the three salmon entrees ordered was raw in middle.
Three other fish entrees ordered were very tasty, but very unusual accompaniments.
Not quite worth the $600.00 bill!

Lovely modern dining room with attractive fireplace, and nicely lit. Attentive friendly service made it a nice evening, and food was very good. A most unusual and interesting dessert selection, and the one we had was delicious.

The only negative was the noise level, which made conversation difficult. The fish tacos were much better than Legal Seafood's. The ceviche was refreshing. Wish they had a smaller size of sparkling water, or maybe it was not offered.

We felt extremely rushed by our server from the beginning. We were celebrating a Birthday and had high expectations for a great meal. Food was decent but not of quality that the price would indicate. If you’re looking for a bubba gump shrimp experience with high prices, this is your place. Otherwise, there are better options in the area.

Happening spot for a friday lunch. Good service and fresh creative dishes to Boston staples.
This was my first visit to Banks and in looking at prior reviews I saw a mix of excellent reviews - as well as many complaining about slow service and other hiccups. What we found is what we have come to expect from the Himmel Group (which also operates Grill 23, Harvest and Bistro du Midi) - a constant focus on assuring perfection from the kitchen as well as professional, top notch service. This is not a restaurant staffed with part time wait staff, but instead it is a well trained full time team. It’s cleared that management has set a tone from the top of getting things right - and if something is not perfect fixing it promptly.
We tried a variety of the dishes (tuna tartare, salad Nicoise, seafood flatbread, sea bass, cuttlefish spaghetti, fish and chips and more. Everything was great. We regretted not ordering the lobster bake - we spied it at other tables and it’s impressive.
The downstairs lounge looked very inviting and a great place for a cocktail or more casual meal. Bottom line - highly recommended.

My first visit and it was impressive. Open, super clean kitchen, and seating had a great layout with multiple levels. We had clam chowder, oysters, ribeye and salmon. The placement of pork belly in the chowder added great texture and taste. I am not an oyster fan so I overloaded mine with hot sauce. But the fish - outstanding! Wow, perfect size for a big eater, bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. I was told the ribeye was excellent and the house made sauce was unique and complimented the dish. Definitely would return!!

The clam chowder was not a bit cold and the grilled octopus was very chewy. I'd recommend the flatbread though.
The atmosphere and service was great but not sure I loved all the food items.
Forse era una serata non ottimale ma dall'accoglienza il servizio è stato un po' carente: nessuno ad accoglierci all'ingresso, ci siamo sentiti spaesati, quasi fuori posto. Una volta accompagnati al tavolo e presa l'ordinazione, siamo stati un po' abbandonati a noi stessi. Il cibo non era all'altezza delle mie aspettative: lobster roll con pochissima aragosta, chips al limite del bruciato. Anche il fish and chips non era pienamente soddisfacente: patatine fritte bene e abbondanti ma la pastella della frittura del pesce era troppo spessa e intrisa d'olio, tanto da aver rammollito le sticks su cui era apooggiato; il pesce era piuttosto insapore e tendeva a sfaldarsi, non dava l'impressione di essere fresco. Il cestino in cui era servito il fish and chips era completamente colmo, tra cibo e 3 vaschette di salse: ho avuto difficoltà a mangiare il pesce non avendo un piatto largo abbastanza in cui affettarlo. Infine la creme brulee: stuccosa, alcune cucchiaiate risultavano grasse al palato e ho trovato le decorazione di zucchero fiammeggiato eccessive e inopportune al momento di mangiare. Complessivamente, secondo me, l'esperienza non vale il prezzo pagato.
Edit: facendo seguito all'invito a contattarlo per spiegare meglio cosa non mi ha soddisfatto della cena, ho spedito al sig. Rosenthal una email. Non ho ricevuto alcuna risposta: ne deduco che l'interesse per ciò che pensano i clienti è solo di facciata. Siccome una cena poco riuscita può essere un caso, ma prendere in giro i clienti è intenzionale, riduco la valutazione ad una sola stella (ma solo perchè non esiste lo zero).

It was a very nice night, The hostess were very nice and promptly brought us to our table. Everything from the appetizers through dessert was fabulous. Being a land lover the ribeye steak came out great. And I tried my dates swordfish and I was pleasantly surprised on how well it was cooked and the flavor of it.

We really enjoyed the quality and creativity of some of the dishes. Loved the chowda flatbread !! Fish tacos some of the best I have ever had! Seated on first floor near bar which was quite noisy. Next time will try for upstairs and hope for a bit more quiet. Great service. Surprised to see a three dollar charge for the requested “slash” of orange juice in my martini. We like our first visit and will return.

Food was mostly good. Flatbreads we’re flavorful and the chop salad had a lot of stuff on it. Both were very big portions…bordering on too big. Fried clams with bellies - cornmeal breading was interesting but the clams were over cooked. Additionally, the plate was mostly comprised of undercooked french fries. Server was pretty good - but not attentive enough to keep our wine glasses full after the initial pour.
All in all, I’d consider going back to try some other dishes but it wouldn’t be in my top places to go.

Very pricy for just ok fish. 3 drinks 2 entrees, 2 apps, 2 sides $230. If it was spectacular I wouldn’t have minded that amount. It was not.

Service seemed to be a bit slow for lunch, as we often had to wait 5-10 minutes to get the attention of our waiter. Fantastic food though, too bad the service was a bit sub-par.
