Great service, terrific food especially the oysters and nice ambiance!
Thank you very much!
Very well prepared food. Ceviche was sublime. Server was knowledgeable and prompt and friendly. Entrees were the salmon (yum!) and halibut ( tasted good but was less flavorful than the salmon). Dessert was a maple tart that was not to sweet, very pleasant end to an enjoyable meal with my mom.
Thank you Jill! I am so glad you had a great time. Please let me know if I can ever be of assistance. Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m

Best oysters in Boston. An excellent meal all around.
Thank you Pat! We look forward to welcoming you back to The Banks soon! Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
The waiter heavily promoted the lobster bake and the Dover sole. The Dover sole pieces were very small, probably 5 oz. The lobster bake was a huge portion of mostly potatoes, corn and mussels. The lobster portion was tiny. It was a big disappointment, and then when we got the check, the entrees were 75-80 dollars apiece! Yes, it was on us that we didn’t ask the price, but I and our friends never thought it would be THAT much. The bourbon selection was very limited, being told twice that they didn’t have the requested brand. The restaurant space is lovely, and the host accommodated our request for a certain table, which was much appreciated. Probably will not return, and definitely won’t recommend. Donna Tito
Hello Donna. I am sorry to hear that the food did not live up to expectations. The dover sole and lobster bake are our two most expensive items. That being said, they should still be perfect, so if they were not, I apologize. The lobster bake has a 1 and 1/4 pound lobster, as well as shrimp, clams, mussels, sausage, corn, and potatoes. I would love to have you return if and when you are willing to give us another try. Thank you. Jeff Rosenthal General Manager Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Our first visit and we will return. Such a beautiful space. The food and drink selections, excellent. Thank you!
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed. See you soon. Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Food was amazing and service was excellent! Loved the bluefish pate and the oysters were great as well. My wife had the fish tacos and I had the tuna, both of which were delicious. The only issue for me was portion size. The tuna was presented with 4 or 5 medium slices, probably no more than 6 oz. total, which was seared perfectly and paired with a delicious mixture of tomatoes, eggplant and artichoke. However, for $44 it should come with more than an appetizer-sized portion of fish. Go to Atlantic Fish or Capital Grille, and for the same price you’ll get a whole steak, 8-10 oz. But overall a great dinner and we will be back.
Hello Bill. Thank you for your feedback! I'm sorry that you found the tuna portion small. We definitely want to make sure all of our guests leave nice and full. The bluefin tuna is certainly one of my favorites. I am very glad to hear that the service exceeded expectations as well. Please let me know next time you would like to join us. I look forward to seeing you soon! Thanks again. Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Beautiful restaurant, great service and very accommodating for our son with a dairy allergy. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the dishes. We weren’t rushed and had a very pleasant meal. The lobster bake was delicious as was the margarita flatbread and sourdough bread. The fish and chips were great too. A perfect ending to our trip.
Thank you Vicki! I'm so glad the food was so amazing! Please reach out next time you make it up to Boston, as we would love to welcome you back to The Banks. Thanks again, Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
In town for Boston Marathon
We're so glad you enjoyed, Diane!
Went to celebrate anniversary and staff super nice. Surprised us with a special “ Happy Anniversary “ dessert. Food was great!
Thank you! Happy anniversary!
This new seafood restaurant in the heart of Boston's Back Bay is a must-visit. The seafood is extremely fresh and delicious and the Dover Sole was the best I've ever had. The second-floor dining room has spectacular views no matter which table you are seated at. Above all, our server Joshua took excellent care of us, making this a truly remarkable date night.
Hello Stephen! Thank you for such nice compliments. We definitely pride ourselves on our spectacular food and service. Agreed, the dover sole is to die for. We look forward to welcoming you back soon! Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Better than expected at first glance. The Chowda flatbread is very good.
Overpriced for the quality of food. Fried artichokes were too oily.
Good afternoon, I'm sorry to hear that your food was not up to par. I would appreciate the opportunity to gain more insight into your experience. If you wouldn't mind contacting me directly to discuss further, I would appreciate it. Thank you! Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Anniversary dinner was a success! Great wine and excellent recommendations on food. Our order was expertly coursed out.
We're so glad you enjoyed your celebration Tyler! See you soon. Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Banks Fish offers the highest quality seafood with an inventive twist. Our crudo was not the same old- worth every penny- and their were many pennies! Exquisite flavors. Thoughtful presentation, each bite something to savor. Our server Catherine made the night - She knew the menu backwards and forwards, sincerely cared that we had the best experience possible. Ps. We saw the lobsters go by on a server’s tray - next tome!!. .
Thank you Judy! We are lucky to have Catherine! We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
We celebrated a birthday at the Banks. Excellent food, service, and location. Vibe was current, not stuffy.
We're so glad you enjoyed Lori! See you soon. Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
The good, bad, and ugly mostly sum up my review.
The good, special request for a table was honored and I think they went of their way to accommodate. The drinks were good but they took forever to arrive, Chowder was great, maybe the best I have ever had. The service was good...but.
The bad, I ordered the fried fisherman platter. Everything was as fresh as it could be but the clams were very overcooked and I do not believe the fish was haddock. It was way way too soft for haddock. Fish was fresh as it could be but I think it was cod given the texture. The scallops and shrimp were very good. French fries? OMG could you put more salt on it? They were so salty they could not be eaten. My wife had the swordfish and it was dry and overcooked. The sauce was not to her liking so she took a few bites and pushed it aside. She had had her heart set on the lobster roll but she wanted a Maine lobster roll with mayo and they only offered it with butter. I think they should offer both versions as Neptunes Oyster does.
The ugly? My wife did not eat her meal. We could have complained but chose not to however when the waiter came and cleared he did not ask if there was a problem and I think he should have since she really only took 2 or 3 bites. As a good server he should have noticed and asked but he did not.
Lastly, for me, I hate loud restaurants. I never understand why people have private conversations that can be heard across the room but that is the "ambiance" here as it is in most restaurants today. Not a criticism necessarily but be advised if you wish for a more calm atmosphere where you can comfortably talk and hear.
Overall....meh I have had better.
Hello Bill. I appreciate all of the feedback and the time you took to write this review. First off, I apologize that your meal was not as enjoyable as anticipated. I will certainly follow up with our chef team about the fries and the swordfish. As for the lobster roll, we can absolutely do the traditional style as well. If you wouldn't mind reaching out to me directly, I would love to chat more. Thanks, Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
We just wanted it to be better. Food didn’t live up to the hype
Good afternoon Tom, I'm very sorry to see that your experience wasn't up to expectations. If you wouldn't mind reaching out to me directly to provide more detail about your visit, I would really appreciate it. Thank you! Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
the manager was very understanding about a problem with one of the dishes our friend ordered and graciously overcompensated when adjusting the bill. We will definitely return.
Thank you Alan! I am glad to see our team took good care of you! See you soon. Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
We waited almost 30 mins after we sat down for anyone to say hi. Service was slow, food was cold and unimpressive. Informed 30 mins after ordering that was out of certain dishes. Replacements came out mediocre. Hoped for more, would have to be convinced to come back and spend $650 again there. Free ice cream is nice but not why we came out. There’s other options aside from the COVID excuse

My entree was delicious to the last bite, very well composed (tuna steak). My companions also thought their meals were well put together (salmon, swordfish, halibut) though my friends thought the salmon could have been cooked a little less and the Brussels sprouts a little more. My green salad was good, not stellar, but there were accolades for the clam chowder, tuna appetizer and oysters. The pecan tart dessert was very good. The drinks took a very long time but our waiter was very congenial and helpful. It’s unusual for that many items served to be raves. I’ll be back.
Hello Zeoj. We are so glad you enjoyed your time here at The Banks! We will certainly look into the wait time for beverages. Please let me know if I can ever be of assistance to you! Great experience at this new restaurant. Celebrating a graduation sipping well crafted cocktails and wine while dining on imaginative seafood! Our server, Nina was outstanding, efficient and engaging. Very much looking forward to a return to this beautiful restaurant.
Thanks John! Nina is one of the best. I'm so glad you had a good time. See you soon! Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Met friends for dinner and we all loved our meals -swordfish, octopus and fried fish. Salads and corn bread were excellent too. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. Will definitely return.
We're so glad you enjoyed! We look forward to seeing you again soon. Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Great selection of oysters complemented by a wonderful overall menu. We sat at the 2nd floor bar and enjoyed excellent friendly service. Mark The Banks as one of our favorites in Back Bay.
PS: Can't beat the parking garage right underneath!
Thank you Tom! We are so glad your first experience was such a great one! Please let me know when you would like to return so I can personally welcome you back! Thanks again. Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
First of all it took over 5 minutes before we were greeted by anyone and even then we were barely acknowledged and told our table would be ready in a moment, we were there at opening. Next the hostess tried to sit us in the bar area downstairs, which is largely high-tops, I had specifically requested to be sat at a regular table, not a high top. I politely asked to be sat upstairs instead ay which point she nicely said let me check and had us wait a minute more. She then sat us upstairs in the upstairs bar area at a high top, with an empty dining room with plenty of open tables. We sat there but this is unacceptable. I understand that there is a system to seating as I have worked in restaurants for 20 years but at opening with an abundance of tables this is unacceptable, and there were plenty of open tables and service staff!!! I will happily say the bright spot of the evening was our server who was lovely!
Next the food, the appetizers/small plates were good but both my friend and my entrees were a disappointment at best. There was nothing wrong with them but they were not good and grossly overpriced. At the end of the day I was dissatisfied and disappointed after spending a decent amount of money, and am not planning on coming back for a dinner anytime soon. I had such high hopes as a pescatarian but I’m a neighborhood with plenty of dining options this just fell short.
Hello Elyssa, I apologize that your seating preferences were not accommodated. We do seat the full restaurant through our reservation system, though if you note you would like a low top table, we can certainly make that happen. I am glad the service was great, but am sorry to hear that the food did not exceed expectations. We would love to have you come give us another try. Thank you! Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Whole Sea Bass for 2 was superb. Plated with street corn and romaine hearts. All favors complemented each other. Maple tort to die for. Best coffee I’ve had in a while at a restaurant. Service was excellent.
Thank you so much! Please feel free to reach out to me directly for any assistance I can provide in the future! Thanks again. Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Had the tuna tartare, octopus, and cuttlefish pasta.
Everything had an interesting Asian element.
The tartare worked well on top of avocado and the squid ink crisps were a great texture contrast.
The octopus starter was perfectly cooked and had a nice hoisin bbq sauce which went well with the bok choy and purple sweet potato.
The cuttlefish uni pasta was awesome...had a nice briny flavor and some panko for crunchiness that worked perfectly with it. Would be a bit better with some lobster on top 🙂
The server was great...all her favorites were spot on.
And the fall dessert plate was amazing too... pumpkin chocolate mousse sounds bizarre but worked well with the Ube ice cream.
Good afternoon! I'm so glad you were able to try some of our best menu items. The new fall dessert menu is certainly delicious. Our Executive Pastry Chef Alyx is a master of her craft! We look forward to welcoming you back to The Banks soon! Thank you. Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Convenient for Lyric Stage - right across the street. This was our group's first night out together in almost 2 years.
Pleasant service and speedy when we mentioned the theatre. Also 15% off the food as a Lyric partner!
Food was good, but the fish tacos needed a bit more 'stuff' in the shell. There was almost too much fish. Was hoping for a bit more cilantro.
The 2 people who had fish&chips really liked their meals.
Good afternoon. Thank you very much for your feedback. We will certainly look into why your fish tacos were not perfect, as there is supposed to be a nice amount of Kimchee slaw, pickled radish, and avocado in addition to the fried haddock. We're glad the fish and chips were up to par! Please reach out whenever you would like to return to The Banks. We will get you some stellar fish tacos. Thanks again! Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Great Sea Bass whole fish dish for two!
We ate at the upstairs bar. Not sure of our server’s name but he was excellent. Big dark headed guy. Really Knew the menu and helped with recommendations. The calamari was amazing with the addition of peppers. Shared a chopped salad which was fairly average, but the lobster roll and chips was off the charts and the Dover sole the best we’ve ever had. Fun, great service and delicious food. Highly recommend.
Hello Marilyn! I believe you are thinking of Marshall! He is excellent. We're so glad you enjoyed the food and service and look forward to seeing you again soon! Thank you, Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Beautiful interior. Great job!
While waiting for friends, had a glass of wine at the bar.. friendly bartender...excellent glass of Napa Cabernet..pricey 27 dollars...
Ate upstairs. Atmosphere is fine but nothing special..excellent service..delicious cup of chowder followed by tuna and Mediterranean vegetables was quite wonderful
The food was excellent, loved the ambience.
Thank you Sabrina! We're so glad you had a good time!
The pasta was Devine!!! It’s a must !!!!
Good evening OC, I am sorry to see that you had a 1 star experience here at The Banks. If you wouldn't mind reaching out to me directly so we can further discuss your dinner here, I would truly appreciate the opportunity to gain some more insight. My email and phone number are noted below. Thank you, Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
We liked the ambience and had a perfectly fine evening but it wasn't the culinary experience we had hoped for, based in part on the great rating this restaurant has received from past patrons.
We tried oysters and four dishes. In each instance, ingredients were good, but sauce and seasoning overpowered the senses: too sweet, too salty or both.
The dishes we tried were the Spanish octopus (way too sweet owing to what tasted like supermarket Panda oyster sauce), the ceviche (too salty) and the salmon belly (couldn't taste the salmon itself over the sauce, which I remember as being a tad too acidic). On the balance of these small dishes, we decided against ordering mains. We did have oysters which we enjoyed, despite them being a little over market price.
Good evening, Thank you for your feedback. I am glad the service and ambiance were both enjoyable, but wish that the food was up to the same level of excellence. If you wouldn't mind giving me the opportunity to speak further about your experience, I have noted my contact info below. Thank you again! Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
The service and the food were excellent, the ambiance was a little disappointing, however, due to the music being so loud. We found ourselves, and people at nearby tables, having to speak over it.
Hello Zach, Thank you for the feedback! I am so glad the food and service were excellent. We definitely do not want you to have to speak over the music. We will certainly look into our volume levels. Thank you again. Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Service was stellar and food was phenomenal. It’s pricey but worth it.
Don’t miss: oysters, octopus, Caesar salad, burger
Lovely ambiance as well…views of Copley from upstairs are super charming.
End to end, a really lovely experience. Recommended!
Thank you Meghan! I'm so glad you enjoyed. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly for a reservation, or if I can ever be of help. Thanks again! Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Frankly given the expense put into the restaurant, the location, and the menu I thought it was a disappointment. The food was fine for a big corporate restaurant catering to tourists. But generally uninspired.
Good evening, I am sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your experience here at The Banks. We certainly do not want to come across as a big corporate restaurant, as we always want to be a member of our Back Bay community. If you wouldn't mind reaching out to me by phone or email, I would appreciate the opportunity to gain more insight into your experience. Thank you. Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Food is not as good as other restaurants in Boston, they could have better food quality. For the tuna tartare they use bagged avocado instead of fresh, so it’s more of a guacamole and it didn’t have any flavor. The calamari is more “bread crust” than calamari and the dover was great except that we payed the same amount for a whole lobster in Zuma the night before so…
Good evening, Thank you very much for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that the food quality was not up to expectations. We do make the avocado puree fresh daily, but I understand it was not what you were expecting. I would love the opportunity to speak to you further regarding your experience. I have noted my contact info below. Thank you! Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Great meal and great service! Will be a repeat customer!
