The restaurant has an energetic and hip vibe to the dining room and adjoining open bar. Food was fresh and beautifully prepared, with great seasoning. Prices were a little high, but the options and variety outstanding. Service seemed a little short-handed but was pleasant, knowledgeable, and attentive when present. Overall, I would go back - there was so much tempting on the menu!
Great atmosphere and well-prepared seafood.
Outstanding food, fresh shellfish and great chowder. A bit expensive made worse by the waiter taking every opportunity to upsell. Recommended two entrees which were the most expensive on the menu. Recommended a $22 glass of wine which was the most expensive on the menu. Learned right away that you can't trust their recommendations.
The food and wine were really great. Our waiter was good and attentive. It drafty by the window upstairs so we moved to a table a little further away and closer to the bar where there was an ‘energetic’ group. I didn’t love my dessert but I think I did not choose wisely - they had a good selection.
Michelle our server made the evening. Overall food was great. Look forward to going back.
Overall nice place.
Tables were super close together and both the upstairs bar and downstairs bar were crowded so it was loud for regular diners. I did not expect an upstairs bar.
Appetizer was meh (artichokes) but the entree were solid.
Drink (sangria) had way too much ginger for me and was not drinkable.
The place has potential but I don’t think for me it’s a repeat visit….
My husband and I were celebrating my birthday. Food delicious starting w/ oysters and fried clams. Both Dover sole and the halibut outstanding. Wine list terrific. Our server, Joseph was great. In fact I will request him when we return.
Thank you to all of the team at Banks Fish House!!!!
All the dishes were well crafted. Tasty creations without being pretentious. Service was friendly and well timed.
My boyfriend and I finally tried The Banks Fish House last night (we literally live 3 blocks away so we had high hopes) and overall our experience was really good! There was some confusion in the beginning as to which server was supposed to cover our table so we went a long time without seeing anyone, but the manager was very apologetic about the mistake and ended up covering our entire bill. We greatly appreciate the gesture and will be back to try more things! The inside is a really cute aesthetic/instagram-worthy and the food and drinks were great!
Lovely restaurant and fantastic food!
Excellent service, excellent fish....tons to choose from. Great ambiance!
Would go again and again!
Joseph was a wonderful server - very friendly and knowledgeable! Thank you!
Mussels are fantastic!!! Sour dough bread was awesome. Service and wait staff were very friendly and attentive. Very comfy soft padded chairs!!! (I do not like wooden or metal chairs)
Did not care for the clam chowder or fall squash soup because of the heavy cream but that’s just my preference. Would definitely try this restaurant again!
Service was rushed. Was hoping to relax but got pressured to eat fast and get out. The cocktail was not worth $18.
Food and ambiance was great, service was slow and less attentive than what I would expect.
$40 for a lobster roll?!? Food was okay. Not worth the price
Good evening. I am sorry to hear that we did not meet your expectations. We definitely do our best to stay competitive price wise with our $38 lobster roll. Unfortunately the cost of lobster has tripled in the last year and has caused prices to rise. That being said, it should be delicious, and if it was not, we did not do our job. Please feel free to reach out to me directly to further discuss. Thanks, Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Loved the space and the feel. The service was excellent, prompt and friendly. Had Halibut, Sole, and some chowder.
The chowder is often up to personal preference but for me had a great consistency a little on the potato heavy side masking the clam flavor but again probably up to personal preference.
The halibut would have been a good dish unfortunately it was over cooked and dried out. A risk I found being common when ordering Halibut from anywhere. The sole I was told good but nothing amazing (a bit of a surprise in the cost for most people).
Overall nothing earth shattering but I’m sure I will give it another try at some point.
Good afternoon, Thank you very much for your feedback. We will certainly be discussing the Halibut as a team to make sure that it is cooked perfectly every time. I'm sorry that the dover sole meuniere did not live up to expectations. If you would please contact me directly, I have noted my info below. Thank you! Excellent service, fantastic dinner, great atmosphere. Nice addition to the southend/back bay dining scene!
Thank you Jeff! I appreciate the compliments! Please let me know if I can ever be of assistance. P.S. - Great name! Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Had a reservation for 6:45, it was 6:40 and seemingly plenty of tables for 2 available, but the hostess said they weren’t ready for us just yet and would sit us closer to our scheduled time, and we were welcome to sit at the bar until then. I’m thinking, ok, isn’t 5min already pretty close to our scheduled time? But whatever, we sat at the bar, had a drink, watched two other parties of 2 get sat and the time go past 7pm. Ultimately, just decided not to make a scene with the hostess and eat at the bar, the bartender was great anyway.
The food was good, but really expensive. Octopus appetizer was completely smothered in some black sauce that basically tasted like BBQ sauce, weird. We also ordered the sole, asked about the price first so we’re aware that it was steep…. And it was good, but $70 good? I don’t know, I’ve never had Dover sole before, to me just tasted like your standard fish filet. We got that instead of the fried fish platter, which we decided against because we were thinking, $45 for fried assorted fish??
Anyway, wasn’t bad, wasn’t great and wasn’t cheap. But the bartender was wonderful.
Hello Tim. Thanks for your feedback. I'm sorry for the issue at the host stand. We do push to the exact reservation time in order to pace our kitchen. That being said, you should not have waited until 7pm. The Grilled Spanish Octopus BBQ does have a decent amount of Barbeque sauce on it. I am sorry that you did not enjoy. I'm glad the service was great, but apologize that you did not feel the food lived up to the price. Thank you. Jeff Rosenthal General Manager Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Oysters were terrible

Nice ambiance in the city center. I would definitely go back.
Great service, terrific food especially the oysters and nice ambiance!
Thank you very much!
Very well prepared food. Ceviche was sublime. Server was knowledgeable and prompt and friendly. Entrees were the salmon (yum!) and halibut ( tasted good but was less flavorful than the salmon). Dessert was a maple tart that was not to sweet, very pleasant end to an enjoyable meal with my mom.
Thank you Jill! I am so glad you had a great time. Please let me know if I can ever be of assistance. Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m

Best oysters in Boston. An excellent meal all around.
Thank you Pat! We look forward to welcoming you back to The Banks soon! Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
The waiter heavily promoted the lobster bake and the Dover sole. The Dover sole pieces were very small, probably 5 oz. The lobster bake was a huge portion of mostly potatoes, corn and mussels. The lobster portion was tiny. It was a big disappointment, and then when we got the check, the entrees were 75-80 dollars apiece! Yes, it was on us that we didn’t ask the price, but I and our friends never thought it would be THAT much. The bourbon selection was very limited, being told twice that they didn’t have the requested brand. The restaurant space is lovely, and the host accommodated our request for a certain table, which was much appreciated. Probably will not return, and definitely won’t recommend. Donna Tito
Hello Donna. I am sorry to hear that the food did not live up to expectations. The dover sole and lobster bake are our two most expensive items. That being said, they should still be perfect, so if they were not, I apologize. The lobster bake has a 1 and 1/4 pound lobster, as well as shrimp, clams, mussels, sausage, corn, and potatoes. I would love to have you return if and when you are willing to give us another try. Thank you. Jeff Rosenthal General Manager Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Our first visit and we will return. Such a beautiful space. The food and drink selections, excellent. Thank you!
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed. See you soon. Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Food was amazing and service was excellent! Loved the bluefish pate and the oysters were great as well. My wife had the fish tacos and I had the tuna, both of which were delicious. The only issue for me was portion size. The tuna was presented with 4 or 5 medium slices, probably no more than 6 oz. total, which was seared perfectly and paired with a delicious mixture of tomatoes, eggplant and artichoke. However, for $44 it should come with more than an appetizer-sized portion of fish. Go to Atlantic Fish or Capital Grille, and for the same price you’ll get a whole steak, 8-10 oz. But overall a great dinner and we will be back.
Hello Bill. Thank you for your feedback! I'm sorry that you found the tuna portion small. We definitely want to make sure all of our guests leave nice and full. The bluefin tuna is certainly one of my favorites. I am very glad to hear that the service exceeded expectations as well. Please let me know next time you would like to join us. I look forward to seeing you soon! Thanks again. Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Beautiful restaurant, great service and very accommodating for our son with a dairy allergy. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the dishes. We weren’t rushed and had a very pleasant meal. The lobster bake was delicious as was the margarita flatbread and sourdough bread. The fish and chips were great too. A perfect ending to our trip.
Thank you Vicki! I'm so glad the food was so amazing! Please reach out next time you make it up to Boston, as we would love to welcome you back to The Banks. Thanks again, Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
In town for Boston Marathon
We're so glad you enjoyed, Diane!
Went to celebrate anniversary and staff super nice. Surprised us with a special “ Happy Anniversary “ dessert. Food was great!
Thank you! Happy anniversary!
This new seafood restaurant in the heart of Boston's Back Bay is a must-visit. The seafood is extremely fresh and delicious and the Dover Sole was the best I've ever had. The second-floor dining room has spectacular views no matter which table you are seated at. Above all, our server Joshua took excellent care of us, making this a truly remarkable date night.
Hello Stephen! Thank you for such nice compliments. We definitely pride ourselves on our spectacular food and service. Agreed, the dover sole is to die for. We look forward to welcoming you back soon! Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
Better than expected at first glance. The Chowda flatbread is very good.
Overpriced for the quality of food. Fried artichokes were too oily.
Good afternoon, I'm sorry to hear that your food was not up to par. I would appreciate the opportunity to gain more insight into your experience. If you wouldn't mind contacting me directly to discuss further, I would appreciate it. Thank you! Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m

Banks Fish offers the highest quality seafood with an inventive twist. Our crudo was not the same old- worth every penny- and their were many pennies! Exquisite flavors. Thoughtful presentation, each bite something to savor. Our server Catherine made the night - She knew the menu backwards and forwards, sincerely cared that we had the best experience possible. Ps. We saw the lobsters go by on a server’s tray - next tome!!. .
Thank you Judy! We are lucky to have Catherine! We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
We celebrated a birthday at the Banks. Excellent food, service, and location. Vibe was current, not stuffy.

The good, bad, and ugly mostly sum up my review.
The good, special request for a table was honored and I think they went of their way to accommodate. The drinks were good but they took forever to arrive, Chowder was great, maybe the best I have ever had. The service was good...but.
The bad, I ordered the fried fisherman platter. Everything was as fresh as it could be but the clams were very overcooked and I do not believe the fish was haddock. It was way way too soft for haddock. Fish was fresh as it could be but I think it was cod given the texture. The scallops and shrimp were very good. French fries? OMG could you put more salt on it? They were so salty they could not be eaten. My wife had the swordfish and it was dry and overcooked. The sauce was not to her liking so she took a few bites and pushed it aside. She had had her heart set on the lobster roll but she wanted a Maine lobster roll with mayo and they only offered it with butter. I think they should offer both versions as Neptunes Oyster does.
The ugly? My wife did not eat her meal. We could have complained but chose not to however when the waiter came and cleared he did not ask if there was a problem and I think he should have since she really only took 2 or 3 bites. As a good server he should have noticed and asked but he did not.
Lastly, for me, I hate loud restaurants. I never understand why people have private conversations that can be heard across the room but that is the "ambiance" here as it is in most restaurants today. Not a criticism necessarily but be advised if you wish for a more calm atmosphere where you can comfortably talk and hear.
Overall....meh I have had better.
Hello Bill. I appreciate all of the feedback and the time you took to write this review. First off, I apologize that your meal was not as enjoyable as anticipated. I will certainly follow up with our chef team about the fries and the swordfish. As for the lobster roll, we can absolutely do the traditional style as well. If you wouldn't mind reaching out to me directly, I would love to chat more. Thanks, Jeff Rosenthal General Manager The Banks Boston 617-399-0015 Jrosenthal@thebanksboston.co m
We just wanted it to be better. Food didn’t live up to the hype
