Sadly, a little underwhelming. Members of Front of House staff did not perform a check back to ask us about our satisfaction with the food received - which is standard practice in many establishments - and the quality of the food was not as good as it should of been. Most notably, a dish on the specials board, the slow braised lentil Dahl was watery and the lentils were very undercooked, the accompanying rice was extremely salty and the only edible item was the naan. As no check back had been performed, there was no opportunity to address this during the course of our meal, and being extremely hungry, a member of our party, had to resort to eating the naan and accompanying chips which were part of another persons meal. When we were finally given the opportunity to raise these issues, once all other members of the table had finished their meal, the response from staff was very poor. The chef clearly had told the waiting staff to dismiss the complaint with them, saying “he did admit that portion was watery, but rest of the portions are fine” and “if you had told us earlier there may have been something we could do about it, but there’s nothing we can do now”. Firstly, how were we supposed to raise complains earlier if the staff gave us no opportunity to? And secondly, a mistake was admitted and no apology was given, instead the attitude we got was one attempting to blame customers for not complaining soon enough. This is absolutely shameful, and downright rude would not eat here again.

Well worth a visit, fantastic local food and drink. Recommend combining with a trip to the local distillery in the village too

Our evening at the Badacro Inn is the worst experience we have had at any restaurant or cafe. It is a place we have been before but it is no longer a place that is safe or enjoyable. It began when we arrived at 5:30 on a Saturday evening and were told that we would have to order quickly as the kitchen was busy (many tables were empty and no one came while we were there). Within 5 mins, we were told that it was no longer possible to order starters. A member of our party has an allergy and inquired about this. We were told that the restaurant requires 24 hour notice and then shoved a waiver in front of said member. We pointed out that there is nowhere on the website which states this and the response was that it was very tricky to amend the website… One of the langoustines ordered oozed black and green liquid. I went up to the bar with the dish to alert the staff. I was told by our waitress that it was safe to eat (!) but she would replace it. Two arrived at the table and one of the langoustines oozed liquid in the same way. We gave up. Finally, we were all shocked and appalled by the waitress, who was the rudest person any of us have ever come across. Her manner and attitude were poor. She was very dismissive and peppering her sentences with ‘my darling’ does not absolve her of the responsibility she has to provide good service to the customers. She did not. I hope this review gives warning to others with a food allergy or anyone who would like to spend their money at a place that appreciates their customers and commits to providing good food in a pleasant environment. The Badacro Inn is not that place.

Been there twice. First time, had a very nice lunch. A surprisingly sophisticated menu and wine list for a down-to-earth pub. Second time, a disturbingly unpleasant experience with a waitress who refused to take our order for starters without the order for the main course even though we had an hour and a half remaining possession of our table. We explained that we had just met some men, who were regulars at the pub, to join us for a pint before they left, and we wanted to share some appetizers with them. It would have been rude and awkward to eat dinner in front of them. I should note that we were foreigners who might not know the local Scottish customs, but our new friends were octogenarian natives and were outraged at how we were treated.

What a gem! Gorgeous little inn right by the sea which serves absolutely delicious food. Service was super too. We sat in the conservatory so we had a sea view. Highly recommend!

I’ve eaten at The Badachro Inn before and enjoyed the food. Sadly on this occasion the food was not so good, eg the batter on my piece of fish was poorly made and undercooked leaving some soggy sludge. There was a large party of Americans who were so noisy that they dominated the experience despite us sitting in a completely separate room from them. The Orkney gold lager was nicely chilled and very tasty but not enough to make me think of returning in future.

Upon arriving we were told that they could not serve my wife who has a gluten allergy. After considerable discussion they did serve us but only after signing a waiver. Have never run into this before and it’s really quite ridiculous. Warning for allergy sufferers this place wants notice at least 24 hours in advance. Very disappointing
