   Although far from busy when we arrived, service was slow even though there were servers to spare! The food took a long time to be served and even then it was not of a particularly good standard. I had gammon with eggs and fries. The gammon and eggs were greasy and the fries were burnt. We eventually asked for an Eton Mess with coffee. After a long wait the coffee was served. Long after we had finished the coffee the Eton Mess was brought out. We refused to accept it after the long wait which the server blamed on the apprentice chef. We paid for what we had but not happily and needless to say did not include a tip. Will not be in a hurry to visit here again.

   The refurbished Asthon is nice enough but their chairs are so stained it really leaves a bad impression and makes the whole place seem rather dirty. Not an isolated chair - all of the ones I looked at! Food is fair - but the roast dinner was not good with tough beef and a laughable bread sauce which had never seen breadcrumbs nor any of the traditional flavourings but was more akin to milk with a random green herb thrown in. The last time I ate roast here I had to ask for fresh yorkshires as the ones we were all given were rock hard. Really not good cooking, sorry. Our desserts took over 30 minutes to come out as well - by which time the accompanying coffees were all finished and we were mentally prepared to leave. On a positive note the serving staff are lovely and very keen to help.

   Beautiful sunday roast and not too pricey. A bit of a wait even though we booked but nathan the waiter was very helpful and attentive keeping us informed at all times and they were very busy. Worth the wait!

   We had recently had a bad experience and decided to give it another try. Mistake, the staff that were there were great but again short/under staffed. The Sunday roast, food was hot in places and cold in other places on the same plate. Asked for mint sauce which came 10 mins later. Staff arguing between themselves and customers could hear.

   We had a lovely Sunday lunch on 1 October with friends. Parking was easy and we received a friendly welcome. The restaurant was busy but service was relatively quick and our male waiter was a gem - smiled throughout so was obviously happy in his job. The atmosphere was great, everywhere was buzzing. The ladies' toilets were immaculate! Everything considered, it's a great place to visit whether just calling in for a drink or having a nice meal.

   Reservation booked via OpenTable and on arrival they said there was no reservation even though I had confirmation on my phone. A table for 4 was found and we sat down at 1945 hrs - there were several items on the menu that had been sold out, as they had had a busy day. 2 x starters were ordered and they arrived at 2045 hrs. One of the main courses sold out whilst we were waiting and eventually main courses arrived at 2155 hrs. The waitresses were very apologetic for the delays and the manager removed the cost of food from the bill. The staffing levels were a problem on this particular evening - bar and waiting staff and obviously the kitchen couldn't cope with the volume of orders and had not made provision for the demand for specific food either.
