About this restaurant

  • Great for brunch
  • Innovative
  • Great for craft beers
Argosy Cafe is distinctly Baltimore. We accomplish this by making over 92% of our menu in house. Sorry it would be 100% but we don't have the space for cheeses and Heinz pretty much nailed Ketchup. Located in the first floor of the Munsey Building, named for Frank Munsey, we have named the restaurant for his weekly pulp magazines. We will provide many Baltimore and Mid-Atlantic classics with a twist. Not to mention the coffee, which we will be roasting in house and brewing in ways you haven't seen before. So come on in and join us on this adventure, if nothing else it will be delicious.

Have been trying some new places around downtown for 'pre-Hippodrome' meals, and Argosy did not disappoint. Proximity to downtown and the courthouse make it an easy lunch spot, but they are just ramping up a full dinner menu and it was fantastic. The group tried the burger, spinach salad, and steak with mushroom (and truffle oil) risotto. It was an added bonus to have drink specials on beer, wine and cocktails!

All of the breakfast foods I had was VERY salty (grits, chicken sausage, and eggs). The restaurant needs to cut back on all of the salt when preparing the food.

Terrible service. Waited 30 minutes for eggs and pancakes, with my husband getting his 10minutes before my daughter and I , it was still cold. Waiter joked that it was a good thing the food was so good, with the kitchen so slow. Definitely not good enough. They had 1 large party and no clue how to handle. Wouldn't recommend.

What an amazing experience. The food is amazing, and the alcohol is superb. If only they played some light music. It was easy for my group to be the loudest ones in the restaurant, not only because it was empty, but also because there were no sounds. Definitely going back for more pancakes!

The shrimp risotto was amazing! I love the jalapeño margarita made with fresh lime juice and picketed jalapeño! Awesome staff and cute spot!

It was not an enjoyable experience. The best item was the shrimp and grits... it honestly was delicious. My chicken and waffles tasted burnt and cooked in old oil and the waffles were a poor batter. The caramelized pear tea needed other spices as it was a lacking. The service was the worst. I don't know my server's name as she spoke so low that you could barely hear. We had to ask for everything; straws, napkins, cutlery, sugar, salt and pepper... very annoying. The only thing that helped was another waitress that was passing by and helped. We left her a generous tip. Another issue was they had some of their stock in plain sight where you are eating. Along the railing there were stacks of soda etc and they need storage space. Overall the cafe needs to be overhauled.

My hotel was nearby and decided to try it out. So glad I did. It was quiet and comfortable. The food and service were great. Craft beer list. Bought some coffee to take home.
