Our server was absolutely fabulous. Great recommendations.
Sitting in the poor mans chefs table in front of kitchen was great to see the kitchen crew at work. Each item from the oysters with the best cocktail sauce ever, Brussels sprouts, salmon tartare, and short ribs were amazingly presented and seasoned. Great to have such a special place of Detroit’s culture and renaissance. Made me feel like I was in a New York Michelin star establishment without the accents. The former fire truck garage was open and inviting. Recommend for special night out.
We have had dinner there every Sunday since they reopened. (Full disclosure: We know someone who works there.) The food is very good. My current favorite is the miso salmon with a lime-cashew slaw over navet mash. While the individual flavors are good this dish is best when all are eaten together, IMHO. The risotto is another of my favorites and my husband loves the steak frites and farmhouse bread. We both enjoy cookies and cookies and cream for dessert - the cookies are FABULOUS and straight out of the oven!
Celebrated Sweetest Day with my husband! Out streaks were cooked to perfection and the staff were amazing. We had a beautiful experience!!
Clean and the waitress was amazing
So worth the $$. Cocktail menu was extremely tasty
Made a reservation but still had to wait kind of a long time to get seated. Kitchen was behind but they sent out free apps for the table. Service was fantastic and the food was so good. The vibe was different because of COVID- which isn’t anyone fault but I miss it being loud and busy in there. The staff was very great about Covid precautions, I felt very safe in there. It was a great night overall!!!
Food was amazing! Service was just ok, maybe we caught our waitress on a slight off night. She just wasn’t very personable at all.
Great food, great service, great atmosphere!!! I will definitely go again!!!!
Our server was efficient and knew the menu very well. Our dinner was incredible, salmon cooked perfectly. We will be bsck
Server didn't box our food and was generally disengaged, menu was limited, craft cocktail selection non existent - we've had great experiences here in the past, but were left convinced the experience fell way short of the price point.
The ambiance of the establishment has a vintage-rustic vibe. Our server was very friendly & the food was superb. The meals & drinks were a bit pricey but it was expected. I ordered the beef short rib & it literally melted in my mouth. Truly enjoyed ourselves & will visit again when in Detroit.
My daughter’s 21st Birthday!
Best chicken ever! Small menu but to high standard. No burgers, no fried staff - finally simple good food again.
What a wonderful experience dining at the Apparatus Room! Our server Kim was phenomenal, and a very fun conversationalist. Every bite of food was perfect. (We got the pork shank and half chicken and they were incredible. The flavors, the expert cooking, everything.) Ambiance was both fun and romantic, and we felt incredibly safe dining indoors with the precautions they've taken since re-opening last week. (Oct 4th) This was the first time we dined indoors since early March, and felt very comfortable.
And boy oh boy do they know how to create and execute an incredible cocktail. Try the Motowniki. Just do it.
Thanks for the perfect way to help these two tired wedding photographers celebrate the end of a chaotic year of shooting!
I have never had anything here that was not delicious!
The food was excellent great flavors and taste. The only thing I would not reorder is the oysters. They were the smallest I've ever saw and were on the pricey side based on the portion.
Loved our cocktails, apps, both entrees were fantastic. Waitress was very fun and informed on the menu. Great ambiance within the old firehouse. Very cool. Highly recommend this place for anyone anytime.
Would like to have a soup or salad included with the entry and bread.
Doing well with the Covid restrictions. Menu is expanding. Still a great place to go for dinner
Great food, overpriced, but great and worth it. 4 drinks 1 appetizer 2 entrees, $175
Consistently one of our favorite restaurants. Great scene. Food is always fantastic!
Thanks for your feedback and support! Hope to see you again soon -Chef Thomas Lents
Both the service and the food were excellent!
We are glad you enjoyed your experience with us and hope to see you again soon. Thank you for the feedback! Cheers, Chef Thomas Lents
Kudos to them for screening temperatures at the door and making sure everyone is sanitized and wearing a mask. It definitely eases any anxiety I had about dining out during a pandemic.
Food was excellent, along with service. The fresh baked cookies and ice cream for dessert is something you don't want to pass on.
This latest menu is outstanding! The flavors were so many amazing things, I can only recommend you try it!
The Apparatus Room was an overall fantastic experience. The staff was considerate, thoughtful and celebratory of my sister’s birthday. The food was absolutely delicious! Everything we had - from apps to entrees to drinks - was phenomenal.
Always a positive experience when coming here. The food and drink is excellent and the atmosphere makes you want to stay for hours.
Anniversary. Food was delicious as always
So glad you had an enjoyable time with us celebrating your Anniversary! Hope to see you again soon. -Chef Thomas Lents
We come here for our birthdays and anniversaries and it never disappoints !
Thank you for choosing us to celebrate your special days. We hope to see you back soon! -Chef Thomas Lents
The food and drinks were delicious. The atmosphere was really cool. Very convenient to downtown, right across from the TCF Center. If you can I would recommend parking in a different area and walking as parking was $18 (likely higher during events).
This restaurant is amazing! We made reservations to celebrate my sisters accomplishments in graduating nursing school. They left out a card for her and each staff we encountered congratulated her. I will say some of the staff was a little weary about having a face mask on due to the virus, even while sitting at the table, but that is understandable. I would definitely recommend for a larger group or a nice family dinner.
Excellent ambiance and service. Delicious food! Very happy.
Great service and delicious food. Chef customized one of their entrées to fit my friend’s dietary needs and it was delicious!
The food is absolute fire! So is the atmosphere! 5*
Very nice setting but limited menu was not vert good at all almost no choices to pick from.
Thank you for joining us, and I'm sorry you did not find enough choice on our re-opening menu. Friday was our first regular service after re-opening from our closure and we are planning on steadily expanding our menu and offerings each week. We hope the next time you join us our menu will have expanded to offer you more choice. Again thank you for joining us and I hope you will come back and see us again. Chef Thomas Lents
The corn soup was delicious!
First time visiting the apparatus room and was really excited about having a good experience. Unfortunately the service we received was terrible. The server didn’t seem
like she wanted to be there, everything was slow, nobody checked on us to see if we needed anything. It wasn’t even busy either. The food when we finally received it, however, was pretty good. Everything we ordered was presented very nicely and tasted great.
Food was great! Place looked great. I liked all the different seating options lots of cool chairs
The Apparatus Room is a beautiful restaurant. We were all excited to come and experience this place that's owned by a formerly Chicago-based Michelin starred chef.
We arrived for our reservation an hour early and service at the bar was very good. I did check in and ask if we could be seated early and the host told us "no way, we're very busy". The place was half empty and stayed half empty. When we were finally seated at 8:45, most of the tables around us were empty. Odd...
We were excited to get the Chef's Tasting Menu and the accompanying wine flight. We were served 9 different food items and 6 paired wines. The service was not bad but a little spotty at times, esp. for a slower night.
The food - a nicely presented, fresh oyster appetizer served with a light rose. Delicious. Then a salmon appetizer served on little english-muffiny circles. Also very good - the best of the evening. It was paired with a wonderful Reisling.
A romaine lettuce hand held salad was served and was not very interesting. Along with a spicy/sweet glazed cauliflower and some nice roasted brussels sprouts.
A fish course - fried skate wing - was served w/a semillion/sav blanc. The wine was fantastic but the fish...skate wing is one of my favorites - this was a large deep fried portion and very dry. It was almost inedible.
A platter of a mole-like roasted chicken breasts & legs came. There was probably 9 pieces of chicken for 3 of us. Crazy portions. Not particularly flavorful &, again, over cooked & dry.
We had a nice time but the total for 3 of us with tip was over $500. And we spent over $100 at the bar prior to being seated. I've been to many wonderful & expensive restaurants around the world don't mind spending a lot of money for a nice meal but this meal was not special in any way. It was one of the more bland and poorly cooked & seasoned chef type meals I've ever had. There was a significant lack of creativity and the over cooked food was truly disappointing.
