The Apparatus Room
The menu delivers classic American fare with Executive Chef Thomas Lents at the helm. Dishes feature locally-sourced and seasonal ingredients.
During the daytime, the bar serves as a coffee counter with seating featuring local partner, MadCap Coffee, and pastries prepared in house. The beverage program encompasses a strong classic and craft cocktail list, various local beers will be highlighted, as well as a hand selected culinary driven wine list.
Great food and great service! Beautiful ambience!
Excellent service, amazing food (oh those scallops!), and super cool and classy ambiance. Highly recommend.
Server was disengaged from the outset. Informed server of gluten allergy/celiac disease, was rather dismissive and informed me that “a lot of the dishes are gluten free”. I informed her of the items I was interested in before my date was ready to order. This should have given her time to look into whether these were truly gluten free. After ordering items, she informed me one item was not gluten free (winter soup) a few minutes after ordering. This was okay, I would rather abstain. Then it seemed as if the kitchen was trying to make up for it by giving us a cauliflower app on them. Nice treat, I thought. It turned out this was not truly gluten free either as it had been fried in a contaminated fryer. I will undoubtedly get sick from the cauliflower. All of this could’ve been avoided if the server was more proactive, had a better attitude, and if there was better communication between staff. All in all, not worth my money or future business.
My main course was one of the best I've had anywhere...I was blown away. And the service was exemplary. A great evening for sure!
Wonderful birthday celebration for my wife Lianne. Food was sublime, service even better!
The food was delicious and very timely. Had a wonderful experience would highly recommend!
fantastic food . timing during the first 45 min to an hour needs to be worked on . we waited one full hour before there was anything edible on the table ( i can suggest some nice bread and a few things to keep us occupied)
So disappointed with my Saturday night visit to Apparatus Room for a late night birthday dinner. I was looking forward to it so much. The space and atmosphere are nice but it's really nothing special. It's quite cold (literally as the space is so open and large) and has a corporate feel to it. The place lacks character. The most important component is the food and it was totally below my expectations. We ordered an appetizer - these cheese pastry balls with a spicy sauce inside. Didn't taste the "old cheddar" at in them at all. It was good but again, nothing special and not worth the price. I ordered the venison ragu pasta and it was not good at all. It had a very meaty flavour and that's all I could taste (I couldn't' even finish it). My husband had the pork chop and it was ok. Again, nothing to rave about. I definitely expect a much higher level cuisine given the hype and pricing at this place. I will not be back. There are so many other good restaurants in Detroit.
Service was horrible! I would give it another try. The food was delicious. Our dessert with the cookie was hard as a rock.
Loud, but great atmosphere. Excellent cocktail selection. We shared about 6 menu items--everything was outstanding!
Place is nice. Food was good. Do not miss the fried cauliflower and the gougères.
beyond our expectations. waiter was clean cut, nice guy, and was properly trained. (he knew his stuff)
We went to the auto show last week and stopped in for a beer / bread with pimento. Excellent experience. And thanks you for whoever figured out the layout, we love it. Will have my 101st Airborne guys down there this summer!
Such a beautiful restaurant. We had such a nice time. Our waitress was great and gave us wonderful recommendations. We went for brunch and will definitely be back. Also, we hope to try the dinner
Schedule a reservation for 4 to celebrate my wife's Birthday. The only time to seat 4 people was at 5:15 PM. We requested that if a later reservation opened up to have our reservation moved to a later slot.
Arriving on time at 5:15 PM the restaurant was half empty. They seated the 4 of us at a bench table for 10 next to a window with a strong draft. There were at least 6 empty tables in the restaurant. We requested to be moved to a smaller table away from the window but were told that those tables had reservations at 7:00 PM and were unavailable.
We the inquired about the heat. The waitress said that this table is always cold and she will look for the space heater that they use at this location. She was unable to locate a space heater but 15 minutes later the manager came over with a Blanket for my wife and daughter.
We finished our $350.00 dinner with 3 of us wearing our winter coats on and my wife and daughter sharing a blanket to keep warm. When we were leaving 3 of the 6 tables set for 4 inside the restaurant were still empty. Needless to say that we left the Apparatus Room and went to another restaurant for Birthday dessert and after dinner drinks.
This was our 3rd time at The Apparatus Room. Once for a launch event, once for a group dinner and now to celebrate my wife's birthday with the family. There are many other options to chose from for a better dining experience.
I did not like that there were no vegetarian or fish lunch options
Loved this place. The food was good. The design is impressive, especially the bar area. Service was great.
I loved the decor. The food was excellent. I loved the music selection. I will be a regular.
Great first experience at Apparatus. Both food and service were amazing!
It was wonderful, food was fantastic!
Food is overpriced for the quality provided. Its a really nice ambient though - which you pay for.
Too noisy. Food was so so. Wait staff looked unkempt and dirty. Room was cold.
Everything was fabulous ! the staff were warm, welcoming incredible. Food delicious! Can’t wait to go back!!
I booked the reservation here in celebration of a major family milestone and thoroughly enjoyed the experience from the minute we walked in the door. We loved the vibe and historic importance of the restaurant. The meal was beautifully choreographed and presented while the blend of flavors of each course, something I will never forget. We felt completely satisfied by the meal without having that "over-stuffed, I ate too much" feeling. I highly recommend the pimento cheese spread with their freshly baked Heritage Wheat bread, the filet, the fried Brussel sprouts and Napoleon for dessert. This dinner was one of the best dining experience of my life.
Food was good, ambiance was fabulous. The one thing I did not like is they do not provide bread, if you want bread you had to order it and pay for it and for the price of the menu items it should be included.
Friends visiting from OHIO. Birthday celebration. Everything was great except for the bloody Mary extras. We received different food items for the bloody Mary’s and they ran out of pickles. Kind of awkward with the waitress. Overall it was an excellent experience.
This is a great place to see the new Detroit and remember the old Detroit! The service is always tip-top. The bar area is fun and upscale...as are the drinks that are served! Definitely, a place to check out when you are downtown!
My daughters and I went to dinner before seeing a production at the Detroit Opera House. The service was friendly, prompt and attentive. The food was amazing!!!
Energetic atmosphere in a beautiful setting. Place was packed on a recent Saturday night. My wife and I split the deviled eggs and gougeres to start. Both were good , but eggs needed more poached shrimp and gougeres should of been warmer. We shared the porchetta. Tasty and flavorful, but once again was not warm enough . Mallory was our server and she was excellent. Interesting wine list, but overpriced. Bottle of Ramey Chardonnay was $95. Same bottle is $20 less at Besa. We were a little wary about sitting at the counter, but ended up enjoying being in the middle of all the action. Cheers
Service and food was excellent. Great place to have a dinner. Went with the chef choice and was a great meal.
outstanding service.. great help with menu suggestions. Food top notch. Both of us are active firefighters and were given a discount which was a pleasant surprise!
Overall a nice experience, however when doing the survey it was a bit difficult touching the correct icons.
Food and service were good. Portions were pretty small. We made a reservation for 7:15 but weren’t sat until 7:45 which was disappointing because we made a reservation for a reason.
Food was good but it was freezing ! The outside doors were constantly open. Would not go back
Great energy, very comfortable. Could just as well go to the bar area and eat from the bar menu, but we made reservations and ate in the dining area. A good variety of food, well prepared. We will be back to try the chef’s tasting menu. $$
Amazing ambiance and low light late night vibes! Buuuuut. I would recommend just going here for drinks and snacks, not an actual meal!
Great food, amazing atmosphere, great experience
It was very cold inside the restaurant, and the devil eggs were extremely salty. But the gentlemen were nice enough to provide a blanket to go across my lap. Also the waitress was very good.
We had the tasting menu and it was fantastic. We were also surprised by the amount of food and couldn't even finish the last dish but they packed it to to go for us. Our server Roxie was great and hooked us up with an unadvertised wine pairing for the tasting. Definitely a cool new spot to try in downtown Detroit.
Outstanding food and great service. Mushroom Risotto crazy good. Apparatus, Joe Muer's, She Wolf best restaurants in Detroit.
Great interior, staff is very friendly and also the food quality is good. Cocktails and wine options are also pretty good. Service was a bit slow and also the place was quite cold - obviously it's not their fault as it was -9F outside -, but made it a bit uncomfortable.
