The Apparatus Room
The menu delivers classic American fare with Executive Chef Thomas Lents at the helm. Dishes feature locally-sourced and seasonal ingredients.
During the daytime, the bar serves as a coffee counter with seating featuring local partner, MadCap Coffee, and pastries prepared in house. The beverage program encompasses a strong classic and craft cocktail list, various local beers will be highlighted, as well as a hand selected culinary driven wine list.
Excellent food, good service, neat environment - only down-side was the cacophony of noise - too many hard surfaces so it was very loud - could barely hear the server explanation of the menu options. Good experience overall and not sure there’s anything they can do to address the noise, but that was the only negative.
Very loud and extremely hard to have a conversation. However, waitstaff is amazing and so is the food!
Besides excellent food and cool place, our waitress was very helpful, genuine and positive!!
Simply Outstanding from the moment we arrived and were seated at the bar to enjoy some outstanding handcrafted cocktails Brandon was our Bartender and his knowledge of spirits was impeccable we loved all the Edison like light hulbs hung from the celing the ambience is amazing we were seated for dinner and Scottcwas our server another home run for us we chose the Chefs plate which consisted of 8 courses we started off wiith Pacific coast oysters that were garnished with seaweed mingon and diced shallots everything was outstanding andvwe can not wait to come back and try the Scallop feature that all the staff were raving about..Best dining experience ever i didnt have time to talk aboutvthe "maurice" salad and the rest of our courses but this was exceptional
WE enjoyed our family brunch so very much...service and Jazz concert were outstanding! Great atmosphere!
We were there for the monthly Sunday Jazz brunch. Wonderful music, wonderful food together make for a perfect Sunday morning with friends.
The valet guy was horrible. Bad attitude. Rude. Yelling. The way cars are backed up onto the cross street, the police made everyone move, then valet told us to go around the block and come back to the same spot. We all did that twice and he wanted us to do it again.
Food was decent. Evening ruined by an obnoxious waiter . When we asked to go over specials again he bristled and replied "I already told you about them". Seriously!!!! His name is Dean
The menu is funky
Amazing spot in the Foundation Hotel. Thursday nights are vibrant with an open mic with some of Detroit’s top musical talent.
Food and Drinks are top notch but the servers are slow. Some of those busing tables seemed way more competent than servers. Feels like it’s still finding its feet a bit.
That said would highly recommend The Apparatus Room to anyone visiting Detroit.
Wonderful evening celebrating my husband's birthday. The service was excellent, beautiful restaurant, the food was superb. If you are looking for a little less noise, call the restaurant first to see if the DJ is playing.
Shout out to the valet service on Thursday afternoon. Very good service.
Need to accommodate a vegan diet well done.
We were looking for The Apparatus Room but did not find it immediately. No sign outside for The Apparatus Room. We found out it is located in the Foundation Building.
They have valet parking for $10 but we ended up going a little further to the corner where there is a public parking lot on the left with pay machines.
We were all very impressed with the decor of the restaurant. We were met by a very friendly and accommodating gentleman at the front desk. Nice bar and cozy area with sofas, chairs and coffee tables.
Unfortunately, our waitress set a negative tone for the evening. When I asked her what I might like from the cocktail list, knowing I did not want anything sweet, she pointed out a list of everything that I would not like.
Small menu. Some small plates and "larger" entrees. They have a Chef's dinner that we inquired about but our waitress said we did not have enough time since we were going to the Fisher Theater. When asked how much time we should allow for it in the future she had no answer.
My daughter had the soup which she liked and it was a good serving. She then had the ravioli and loved it, small plate dish, ending with a pasta that was described to us to taste like a "Lafayette" coney. She was happy with everything she ordered. Two of us shared the Maurice salad which was a good tasting. Two had the chicken dish and my friend ordered the short rib. They liked what they had and felt it was filling. We also ordered a side of the brussel spouts which were very good. I had the scallops, big dish served artistically, they were good, but very small serving. I found the restaurant very expensive for what we got.
If I go back I would sit in the area with the comfy sofas for a drink and light appetizers.
Great food, service and ambiance! Awesome piece of Detroit revived!
A great new place in downtown Detroit—with a great space for food and drink!
We decided on the Chefs Choice and it did not disappoint. Every course was exceptional and the service was outstanding. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to others.
The service was great and personable. The food was beyond great as well. The menu itself is simple isn’t overwhelming. Everything was prepared fine and ingredients fresh. The Utica Farms Smoked pork chop entree was delicious and same with my mom’s Farm Chicken. Very well prepared with great ingredients and delicate flavors.
The restored old fire HQ was magnificent. The charm of this old building was maintained. The kitchen is viewable from the tables and was very awesome to watch. The food and service were outstanding. The care from our server was individualized... Extra special for our daughter's graduation celebration. Would definitely recommend again!
A wonderful Mother’s Day brunch.
We absolutely loved this place! The food and the ambiance were nothing short of amazing. This was an excellent place to celebrate my boyfriends birthday! Thank you!
Paige our waitress was fantastic..I've been several times before, but this was the best service I've had!! Great food and ambience.
Once again, The Apparatus Room came through as we entertained family visiting from out of town.
Second time to the Apparatus Room. We've been to most of Detroit's fine dining establishments, and we rank AR at the top. Cuisine is spectacular, with amazing nuances of flavor. With each bite, yhou know you're in the hands of a master chef. A couple drawbacks: the noise and the desserts. It is EXTREMELY loud. Everyone I know who's been there has commented on this. For as good and hearty and flavorful as the appetizers, entrees and sides are, the desserts substandard. Kind of shocking, frankly. It seems they're trying too hard to be different. Just gives us some desserts that are as hearty and flavorful as the entrees, and AR will be a perfect 10.
We went to the apparatus room for my husband's 40th birthday. It was amazing. We had great service, beautiful ambiance and excellent food.
I had listed the sensitivities and restrictions for two of the guests in our group in our reservations. They were a mix of sever health issues and some preferences that I made known 35+ days in advance. Considering the severity of the health implications, a little forecasting and a touch of accommodation would’ve been appreciated, especially since our guest with a compromised immune system could only choose from 3 items on the menu. We understand the artistry and tedious work that goes into each intricate components of each dish, but the accommodation would’ve been appreciated more so.
In addition, our server Tiffany wasn’t good, wasn’t great, but FANTASTIC! Her attentiveness, paired with a playful, engaging energy made out early Mother’s Day celebration a fun and memorable one. The food was good, but the service is what won us over.
Great ambience, service and food. Will definitely be back
Wonderful place, food was fantastic and the servers was great.
The only negative is tables for two are to close together could hear everyone’s conversations
Excellent food, server was great but valet was an issue. Pulled up to the restaurant and found 2-3 valet attendants standing around and appeared like they didn't want to park a car. Waited so long that I almost pulled away and left.
We went to the Apparatus Room with some friends out of town. It was recommended to us by reviews and the waiter to get the Chef’s Choice which the m/p for that day was $85 a person. It was everything we could have hoped for. We got so much food and didn’t have to put a whole lot of thought in to ordering. The treat for me was the Skate Snitzel. I would have never ordered a fish that looked like a ray to eat. But the preparation and garnishes really compliment each other.
Everything was great. But second round of Old Fashions came with crushed ice :-( instead of one large cube
Second visit to this restaurant. Food was better than the first time (filet was great), but they still don’t have the service down. No good flow to the meal. Server would disappear, took forever to get drinks once ordered, and just didn’t feel like anyone cared. I think the wait staff needs more training.
While the bar was a little slow for the first drink it improved greatly. Waitress Chelsea at dinner was superb.
The food was okay but they ambiance was amazing the the service was amazing.
Really great location, interesting menus, good wine selection, valet parking, nice friendly competent service
This was a super unique place for dinner. The atmosphere was very elegant and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was pretty pricey and nothing hit it out of the park in my opinion. An older crowd as well. Overall nice experience
Great ambiance and service. Great for larger parties and great lighting during the day with the large windows. Large lunch/brunch menu that can please a crowd and great drinks!
Had driven by the Fire station for years going to work...finally revisited its reinvention as the Foundation Hotel on a sunny Sunday brunch at the Apparatus Room. From the moment we entered the bright red fire doors, a welcome start to the day. Hard choice but went for eggs -- mushrooms...and another breakfast sandwich with fresh twists. Loved the art and snapped up a baby onsie and a shirt on the way out. No 5 alarms, but 5 stars to the chef and wait staff.
Sunday brunch. Duck confit hash was very tasty. Mimosas slightly overpriced and bacon was a little burnt. However ambiance and service was great.
Had 7pm reservations and was sat at 7:30. Server was non-attentive and indifferent.
The ambiance and service were great. We enjoyed our experience there.
