The Apparatus Room
The menu delivers classic American fare with Executive Chef Thomas Lents at the helm. Dishes feature locally-sourced and seasonal ingredients.
During the daytime, the bar serves as a coffee counter with seating featuring local partner, MadCap Coffee, and pastries prepared in house. The beverage program encompasses a strong classic and craft cocktail list, various local beers will be highlighted, as well as a hand selected culinary driven wine list.
Everything was excellent!
The location, ambiance, and history are the strong selling points. The menu and wine selection was limited, although the food was quite good. As a part of my job I was often in the firehouse when it was active, so I enjoyed seeing what they did with the building. I thought it was an excellent place for a night out.
Great place! Like the ambiance and decor. Old fire station converted into trendy restaurant. Unique menu and everything was fantastic. Really enjoyed the oysters, Brussels sprouts, cauliflour, and the steak!!!
We had an amazing server. The presentation along with delicious tasting food... wowed is.
Fantastic Dining experience, Chefs choice is the way to go
Second time and the food and environment are just incredible. Service was good but a little indifferent- however it was early brunch. All our food has been very good but the Turkey Sweet Potato Hash was on another level. Sounds like a strange dish but this chef finds interesting ways to balance flavors. We are also cocktail people and it is the same as the food - nothing overworked or too artsy - just a perfect balance of interesting flavors.
Awesome time, will be back. Food is always excellent
The building is amazing! Service was spot on. Plan ahead for your reservation!
Our server, Chelsea was absolutely amazing! One of the best servers I’ve ever had—she went above and beyond! The food was wonderful as well—overall, a fantastic experience!
Chelsea, our waitre ss was great, very personable and engaging. She gave great recommendations. Unfortunately my husbands food was cold, they offered to make a new meal for him,and we accepted, which left me to eat my meal alone. We were celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary. The manager came over tonappologize as well. They do really know how to make you feel welcomed.
We would go back but only for drinks, and maybe apps. Ambiance was wonderful, very large open space but not too noisy so you could have an intimate conversation that no one else could hear.
Also, all the employee's were very friendly, you don't see thst at all restaurants.
I’m a native Detroiter and was attending a conference at Cobo and decided to try it out with a colleague. I did recall the negative press but my experience was wonderful. The staff was very accommodating and the food was great. I plan to return for a date nite.
Had an amazing anniversary dinner. Will definitely be back
Interesting and imaginative small plates and large ones. Delicious cauliflower and wonderful short ribs (large portions too--made a small dinner several days later). Looked like a great cocktail selection too.
We rolled the dice on the chefs choice tasting menu and it didn’t work out for us. Because my birthday is the day after St. Patrick’s day, it seemed to be an obvious clearing of the old menu from The day before. Of the 7 courses, all of them were meat, potato, and cabbage. While most of the courses would be good by themselves, it was very one note the entire meal just to try to be Irish. It was all one note , and we were sick of the food by the final course. It could have been so much better, and most of the courses were the same flavors over and over. In the end not really the meal I was expecting, and far below the best restaurants in Detroit. Maybe I should try again when it’s not close to a holiday, but overall a disappointment.
Very nice classy soace... food was delish!!!!! I will be back again!
It was GREAT! Fast friendly service. Good food.
We were really surprised on how good our Brunch visit was. Their Belgian waffles are very good and I also enjoyed their coffee offerings as well.
Decided to try this place for brunch as we had heard rave reviews about the sourdough pancakes. They definitely were the bomb! Sweet and tart from the blueberries and lemon curd. The turkey sweet potato hash could use a little more seasoning while the egg sandwich was delicious.
Great location and unique decor in the old firehouse. Food and drinks were excellent as was the service. My only reason for less than 5 stars was the price. It's a little expensive for what you get.
Amazing food! Our party tried five different things and all were very good. I had the short ribs which were fantastic, I keep thinking about how good they were and it’s been two days. Crispy Brussel sprouts were so good, I need the recipe.
Service was timely and attentive but did not seem over the top, just the right amount of attention. Place was a little louder but we had a table near the kitchen area that was a little away from the noise so that was nice. Will definitely go back.
We had to wait A 1/2 hour for our table, but it was well worth the wait. The winter vegetable soup was outstanding and my filet cooked perfectly. The Brussels sprouts were exceptional crispy with soft center. Waitstaff was professional and attentive. I definitely highly recommend.
Awesome food and service!
Although the food was excellent the service was completely awful. I made a reservation for my birthday, with my girlfriends, the service was very slow seem like on purpose, as we could see how people that arrived after us were immediately served. When I stepped to the bathroom my friends asked one of the managers for a birthday cake or something just to mark the occasion, it never arrived, not even an explanation. When it came time to pay, the waitress said my card could not be read, again seem to be on purpose, as I used that same card many times that day without any issues. It’s hard for me to believe that new developments in this city, that I have grown to love, allow their employees to treat customers differently. I am mexican and yes, we were speaking in spanish, we are women professionals working to grow this city and its industry and yet we got to be treated differently and that is just not acceptable. So, after all this, this restaurant is not worth it when you end your birthday dissatisfied and mostly disappointed.
Took my wife there for her birthday. First time there, definitely won't be the last. Great food. Service was spot on. Detroit is definitely back!
Had dinner and drinks at Apparatus Room on 3/15/19. Cocktails were excellent and they also offered an extensive wine list. All meals were fantastic...pork chop main course was highlight. Service was exceptional without being in your face - very well balanced. Can't wait to come back! Another great option in Detroit.
I had the Fried Cauliflower with Spicy Korean Sauce appetizer for my lunch. It may have been the best dish I've ever eaten that didn't involve prime beef! It's also a great room with a good vibe.
The ambiance is great - the food is just OKAY. The chef tries to hard to mix together different flavors that don't necessary work. The food is well-plated but overall this place is more hype than anything. That said, I'm glad I tried it but it's not my top pick for a restaurant downtown.
Loved the atmosphere and experiencing the rebirth of Detroit! Great service, delicious and beautifully presented food.
We had our family together for dinner, some celebrating birthdays, job promotions & visiting from Alaska! Everything was amazing. Our waitress came off rude to us but she was also very busy. I love Apparatus Room & will always recommend to everyone
Great spot to dine. Cocktail list, beer list and wine list cover all the palates. Menu is creative and delicious. We will go again.
Great ambience with good food and excellent staff. It was a perfect evening for our special meeting.
Tried the Chef's choice menu for two people. Excellent value, very very good food. Will return next time we're in Detroit!
My new favorite place for brunch. I especially love the jazz 2nd sundays to go with my meal. Friendly staff is amazing. I highly recommend this to ANYONE.
The venue is really nice and comfortable. The food was even better. A fairly small but well done menu for brunch included high quality delicious food. I also appreciate that they use local companies for coffee and some of the cocktails.
Very nice experience. Love the staff, food and decor. Just a great atomsphere for any occasion!
Outstanding food and service!
What a fantastic meal! We were celebratig my son's birthday and we couldn't have been happier. Food was outstanding and service was attentive. Great ambiance. Can't wait to return.
Love the brunch! Def my go to spot!
It s a bit over rated, but the ambience is nice and the food is decent
