The Apparatus Room
The menu delivers classic American fare with Executive Chef Thomas Lents at the helm. Dishes feature locally-sourced and seasonal ingredients.
During the daytime, the bar serves as a coffee counter with seating featuring local partner, MadCap Coffee, and pastries prepared in house. The beverage program encompasses a strong classic and craft cocktail list, various local beers will be highlighted, as well as a hand selected culinary driven wine list.
Great meal. Great setting.
We did the chefs choice. It was disappointing.
Lots of food but not the best tasting. The servings were actually to big. There was 9 items including dessert.
Everything was absolutely on spot! Thank you! Looking forward to our visit and definitely bringing friends.
Atmosphere was great. There was a jazz band playing during brunch which was lovely, but tough if you are trying to have conversation. The brunch at Apparatus Room was fine.
We recently visited for Sunday brunch. Our service was excellent and we enjoyed the live jazz music. All of our meals were delicious. We especially enjoyed the ham and pimento cheese sandwich along with the lemon blueberry pancakes.
Had the Duck and Sweet Potato Hash. It was good, but small. Very tasty though. The Bloody Mary was really good too... sweet, sour and spicy!
The food was good, nothing overly special but nothing to complain about. Our waitress was friendly and came back to see how everything was. Over all it was a nice place to have breakfast but the menu does not make me crave a return visit soon. Also, it seemed a bit pricey for what you get. Our bill was approx $42 USD (plus tip) which we thought was pricey for pancakes, regular breakfast ( scrambled eggs, sausage home fries and toast) and we both ordered the brewed coffee.... we also ordered a side of pork sausage to try them, but that should not impact the bill too much .... not a bad review but nothing special either.
My fiance and I enjoyed the overall ambiance of the Apparatus room. However, the food and service was only okay. We initially ordered a bread plate with "pickled vegetables" and butter. We asked what this looked like and were told there were 4 grilled slices of bread with pickled vegetables. After putting in this order we ordered a salad and the chicken to split. We initially received the salad and ten minutes later the bread we had put in 25 minutes earlier. The pickled vegetables were ~6 slices of peaches and the four grilled pieces of bread ended up being two pieces and what looked like two more broken slices of bread. The chicken was a large portion, but great. The salad was under-dressed, a little watery, and really difficult to cut and eat.
I ordered an espresso and then waited around 20 minutes to arrive. When the waiter finally came back she said she didn't bring it because I still had wine left. I understand the reasoning behind it, but I ordered it at the time because that is when I intended to enjoy it.
Overall, this was only ok.
Amazing food! Great service! Will be back!
The worst service experience I’ve ever had in a restaurant. This restaurant was a good option when it opened, but it had gone down hill big time. Many better options in town.
Enjoyed celebrating our 43rd anniversary there. The food, decor and staff was great. Another great treasure in the heart of Detroit.
It was such amazing experience! The food and service was excellent!!
It was my birthday and we went for the Chef's Menu. I wouldn't have ordered some of the thing we were served -- oysters and steak tartare, for example -- but they were incredibly delicious. What a wonderful experience.
Had the Chef's choice menu. Food was good but too heavy on the appetizers and served too quickly. Thought it odd to also get 2 pasta dishes prior to the entree of porchetta. All of us felt more thought could have gone into the overall selection of the dishes served so they would compliment each other better and that it should have been spaced out better over the 2 1/2 hours we were there. Our server Dawn was excellent and helpful with wine selection. Would go
back but there are a lot of other restaurants to try in Detroit first.
Little too noisy but great otherwise
Great food and service. Great ambience ! Noise level was too loud and especially for Thursday evening and not fully crowded.
Excellent food, nice wine list. Really interesting small plates and imaginative main courses. Same for desserts. Unfortunately the service was very rushed. It felt as if plates and glasses were removed as soon as the last crumb/drop was consumed, which was not only obtrusive but rude. And it's not as if it was so busy that they needed to turn the table.
Wonderful experience! Food was amazing, ambiance was exceptional, service was splendid!
Overall it was a good experience. They wouldn't seat us until at least half our party of 5 arrived, and they indicated they prefer to not serve appetizers until everyone has arrived, which I found odd.
I booked an internal team dinner here based on an Uber Driver's recommendation and some research. This restaurant is a gem of a place in downtown Detroit. The Ambiance is amazing. A great looking bar when you enter, tables are nicely spaced apart, and the renovated fire station is really well done. The servers were very attentive and knew the menu well. The food was excellent. We shards the Deviled Eggs and fish dip. Both were demolished by the table. Most of us had the pork chop which was delicious. Everyone enjoyed the meal. The drinks are nicely poured on the strong side. A great place for a business dinner, date night etc...We will be back.
Interesting setting in an old fire station. Nice bar.
Food was mediocre. Portions were small.Did get some comps for poor service and food delays and mixups.
Will try other restaurants in downtown Detroit next time.
Great ambiance. Good menu and cocktails. One of the best in the D
Our server was outstanding. She was personable, attentive and could explain the menu well.
This is a very unique restaurant. It is beautiful to see. Extremely loud and lots of people and wait staff moving around and around. I would not recommend the Apparatus room for a fine, comfortable, dinning experience.
The music was a little to loud for the lunch crowd. In the evening its fine, but during lunch most people net work and it causes Loud conversation.
Wheat bread appetizer was awesome. The pork chop was also perfect.... the chicken was disappointing. It was under cooked for my liking … kind of pink… hard to cut and separate… skins was fatty… wouldn’t order again
Other than the chicken, it was an awe inspiring experience.
I thought the food was quite good, although I'd hesitate to call it great. Very nice selection at the bar, I didn't have any of their specialty cocktails, but the couple drinks I had were well crafted. The space is fantastic - both interesting and comfortable, and the service was impeccable.
Fantastic service and a fabulous meal
Très belle déco, ambiance sympa, service décevant (on apporte le plat principal alors que nous mangions encore l’entrée!) viande pas bonne du tout mais les autres plats étaient bons et originaux
En conclusion très cher pour ce que c’est.
Great place to eat and enjoy a nice dinner with your significant other. Great service as well.
It is such a beautiful and unique place. I enjoyed the quiet, relaxed setting. All wait staff were extremely attentive. The food was very good!!
Awesome! We look forward to having you back, too! Hope you had a great birthday!
Atmosphere was very nice and the staff was terrific. Food was also very good and not overly expensive. Overall a great place to eat.
Thanks for the nice review! Look forward to your next visit!
Our food was incredibly salty. So much so we had to send back our dishes.
This was honestly the best restaurant I’ve been to in MI. The food and service were both exceptional. Go out of your way to try this place, it’s truly worth it. Already made my next reservation!
Awesome! Thank you so much for the review and we look forward to seeing you at the end of August!
Our third time for my wife’s birthday! Our food was excellent! We always enjoy the ambiance and the service was great. Becoming our go to favorite downtown.
Thank you so much for your regular business and your great review! We look forward to your next visit, and we hope your wife had a great birthday.
The food is really mediocre. Lots of things covered in condiments so the ingredients can’t really shine. But the cocktails were great, the design is amazing. Go for snacks and drinks.
Excellent food, beautiful presentation. Excellent service. Very knowledgeable staff. Great restaurant for a special occasion although, not quiet. Plan on spending at least a hundred per couple. Unique drinks, yummy desserts. Overall a great experience with delicious high quality food.
Chef Austin took extra special care of us. Much appreciated. Very impressed.
Awesome! I shared this review with him. See you soon.
One of the best chefs in Detroit. Always fresh. Never disappoints. Bring your appetite.
