In the pretty village of Sawdon on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, you will find The Anvil Inn at the heart of the village.

A bit off the beaten track, but then the best places usually are! A working forge from the early 1700s until 1985, this beautiful stone building retains much of the charm of days gone by. The soaring ceiling in the bar – the original blacksmith’s workshop - the furnace, the anvil, the bellows, all remain as they were.

Sit yourself down on the old pew and enjoy a pint of real ale or a glass of wine after a walk through the dale with its beautiful springtime rhododendrons, or relax in the pretty beer garden and enjoy a glorious Sawdon sunset.

We serve the finest food created with passion and care, the cream of Yorkshire beers, and a wine list with something to suit everyone.

We went on a sunday and very disappointed no sunday lunch menu. Not a large menu and run out of a few items. Ordered steak and surprised no onion rings or mushrooms to accompany. Triple cooked chips a bit over done and greasy. Desserts very nice. Waiter/bar person very good. Not much atmosphere as hardly anyone there

The food was uninspiring and lacked seasoning. The steak and kidney pie was dry and chewy. Won't be returning in a hurry.

Although no traditional Sunday roast, there is an excellent choice on the menu that would suit even the pickiest of people. Cooked to as good as anywhere I have been, I’m going back to sample more dishes!

The staff were very pleasant and welcoming when we arrived. The drinks were very reasonably priced. All the food was hot and very tasty with no rush between courses.

We were not impressed with The Anvil Inn and can honestly say we will not be returning. The Food was very poor quality and we were surrounded by people complaining. The staff we felt didn't deal with peoples complaints very well and came across as condescending and rude .

Have been in the past and it was excellent hence the fact we booked again however major disappointment I had the Halluomi and thrice cooked chips however the Halluomi was exceptionally oily and the chips which should have been crispy outside and fluffy in were in fact soggy and greasy. Needless to say we won’t be going again.

Welcoming host quaint village Inn the atmosphere was endearing, mixture of locals and visitors. The food was very good and value for money. Would definitely re visit especially for the steak night and the curry night

Few visible staff but the one person I saw all evening was an exemplory professional host. Food was very slow in coming. main course and dessert only took 1hr 15 mins before we where finished. Tha bar is elequent and nostalgic and the selection of ales superb. We went on a voucher so paid half price. glad i did so as everything was normal pub grub despite the a la carte priced menue.
